Leo shook his head as he watched her expression harden into the one that she had adopted for use when she had to be responsible. Of course, he knew that she was right. As much as he longed for Rosie to be happy, instead of stone-faced and tolerant, there was really no way for her to defy Lord Roarenson's plans for her -- trying to argue about it would only result in disappointment from her father. After all, he was only doing what he thought best. Leo closed his eyes for a moment, letting out a sigh, as he had nothing to counter her response with.

When he opened his eyes again, Rosie had closed the distance between them, taking her hands in his. She kissed him on the cheek, and he frowned down at her, her reassurances not doing anything to cease his worry. However, he let his expression relax back to his easy smile, even just to make her believe she had made him feel better.

He leaned forward and kissed her lightly on the top of the head -- his own attempt at comfort -- before she patted his hand and let go, stating that they should probably get back. He couldn't help but let out a laugh. "We wouldn't want them to think that, now would we? My reputation could be terribly injured if it gets out that I was bested by a woman." He teased, raising his eyebrow and smirking sideways at her. He watched as she began to walk again, but paused, looking deeper into the forest. Leo came up to the opposite side of the tree, peeking around at her and pretending to ponder her question. "Perhaps, if you had some help." He said with a grin. "I'd have to craft a new bow, though, seeing as I've left mine at the Castle. I doubt they would let me back out, after this." He added, suggesting that he could be the one to help her run away, if that was what she wanted. Of course, he was saying these things jokingly, simply playing along, not realizing that she was genuinely considering what she was saying.

Finally, Rosie turned to go, and Leo felt the need to hold onto her just a few moments longer. Her final comment had reminded him of the reason he had come out here after her in the first place -- the fact that they might never see each other again. Before she could get too far from him, Leo reached out and took her wrist, pulling her back to him and into a large hug. "Be safe, Rosie." He told her sadly, before letting go. "Write us as soon as you arrive." He added, his hands lingering on her shoulders, before he finally dropped them to his sides. He knew that they really did need to get back. Emeline and the driver would be waiting for her at the carriage, and he was sure the driver would be getting frustrated by now. The guards were probably getting antsy as well, trying to find them. Having said all he could say, and stalled as long as he could, Leo gave in, gesturing the direction that Rosie had already been trying to go before he stopped her one last time.

There was something special between them and she was sure he felt it confidently, it was there when she felt a quick press of his lips to her forehead. It just made her thankful to her quick instinct to run, she was able to enjoy this sweet everglade time with him; it would stick to her memory for years, she was sure. For he was most dear, but she had to let him go. Rosina listened to him, her mind slightly adrift, but his comment about a woman besting him made her brows jump and her jaw drop as if she was provoked, though the laugh in the corner of her lips was ever there. "Nonesense, I could best you you know, just not at most things." She swapped with her palm knowing he was teasing, but she honestly hoped she wasn't too shameful. "Indeed, and then you could teach me. We could eat berries till we puke. Sounds enthralling." Laughing, Rosina folded her hands behind her back teetering in a slow manner of walk, wanting to keep this feeling that was fluttering in her chest remain, just a little longer. A fantasy, a wonderful one, but one she couldn't buckle down to for sure. She wished she was just a girl and Leo was just a boy, free to do whatever they wanted.

With a sheepish sigh, she had taken her step almost out towards the clearing but she was suddenly whipped backwards. The quick pull rustled up the fallen leaves and Rosina fell into his chest, her heart was instantly satisfied with this forged closeness. Her eyes brimmed wide as possible was held so tight, this embrace tying her to him like a knot. Gently, Rosina's palms slid from his sides to cross behind his back pulling him even into her. The warmth of his breath against her ear as she spoke such a sad cry of goodbye, it made her want to just stay in this moment, ever long. This was goodbye. Control. Keep control, she nagged herself to stop. And gently, her hands left his back as she closed her eyes regretfully. When he backed up, the warmth still pressing into her from his large hands to her shoulders, she smiled harshly at him, a single tear unable to be held back as it skid down her graceful cheek. She swept her hand up fast to catch it, but she laughed to hide her misery. "I will. I will, you darn fool." She shook her head slightly knowing she didn't want that to be the last words she said to him, his hug had blasted her straight to the heartstrings. "I will miss you terribly," she spoke full of her heart, before almost breaking in a run towards the carriage in an urgency to get out of this scene that would surely kill her the more time was spent there. It had been a lie to herself, of course it would make the sting hurt just as much now that she had such a happy glow. She was the fool.

Thankful expressions on their faces, a few Raorenson guards ran up to her on their horses and gave Leofrick with stern, suspicious glances, one had a look of curious air wanting to know what exactly happened, but Rosina waved them off with a gentleness, "I needed a moment, thank you for worrying." Then clapping her hands together, she smiled proud and prim at them. "I am ready now. Let's be off, shall we?" They exchanged glances but inched back to the carriage hoping there wouldn't be another similar incident on their trip to be sure. Huffing, she put a hand on her hip and fixed her hair.

Exchanging looks at Emeline who was waiting with the carriage door open, Rosina couldn't help but look down color going to her cheeks, she was reprimanded by her embarrassment act just by the dear girl's look. Rosina glanced to Leo who was by her side once more, but she didn't want him to see her shy cheeks, so she elbowed him in the side. "Just bye for now, dear Leo." She mocked him for looking so sad before using the step to hop to her seat in the carriage, helped by the reins-man. He was balding and stout. He closed the door and looked to Leo with a sour hate that was odd to receive, but he could have been just wanting to keep to the time. As he settled back in his seat, he sniffed and the carriage was set in motion. He had a plan to keep to, and he didn't need any delays...

Rosina poked her head out of the windowless panel and waved at Leo with a charming smile, it shined at him, and she hoped he would remember her as she was now. As they were going down the road, Rosina pursed her lips as Leo as well as her castle were beginning to fade in the fog. When the forest trees slowly hid her home, growing higher and higher, she was hit with, not sadness, but a thankfulness. Sitting back, she looked to Emeline with a childlike look that prayed to forgive her. "I acted quite silly, sorry. Everything is fine." She smiled down at her lap as she leaned over and started to pull a few leaves from the lace parts of her dress. When she sat back up, she arched a brow at Emeline. "So Em, were you also able to say goodbye to your man?" She giggled hearing the girl's response, but the both of them could not know the danger and trauma that was about to fall upon them.

Ooc █ ; So the reins-man is in on the plan. *^* WOOT!

Emeline sat in the carriage, waiting in the middle of the road. She knew that her Lady would be back, and she had no intention of trying to keep Rosina from these last moments of happiness that she might have. She knew of her Lady's feelings for Lord Leofrick, and part of her hoped that maybe the girl was telling him how she felt right then. However, when she saw the two of them coming back towards the carriage, she knew that was not the case. Emma had no doubt that had her Lady said the word, Leo would rescue her from this marriage that she didn't want -- she was a hopeless romantic, in that way. Emma tucked her long, blonde hair back behind her ear as Lady Rosina stepped back up and into the carriage.

Emma smiled mischievously back at the look that Rosie gave her. "I don't think you acted silly at all." Em assured her, waving the incident off easily. If she had had an opportunity like that in her Lady's situation, she would have taken it as well. Of course, "her man" as Rosie called him, wouldn't be coming after her to say goodbye as Leo had done. The Lady giggled at her a bit as she spoke, and Em could only give a roll of her eyes. "I've said my goodbyes, but I'm sure I won't be missed as sorely as you will, milady. I doubt that I'll even be remembered after a week has passed." Em said, her tone playful, though her cheeks turned pink with embarrassment.

Upon their departure, she had received an unexpected, though quite welcome, farewell from Denry, the Roarenson cousin. Although the hand-maiden had had a crush on him for quite some time, she had been under the impression that she was rather invisible to him, aside from their Thursday morning tea. Even then, she had thought that her opinion meant little to him, and that she was really only there for someone to talk to while everyone else was busy. The fact that he had taken the time to offer her a goodbye as well as his cousin had Em wondering if perhaps she was more than just someone to fill a seat. She wondered if he may even consider her a friend, though she knew it could be nothing more. After all, he was still nobility, and Emeline was simply a servant.

After a moment of trying to push away the embarrassed feelings, Em spoke again, turning the conversation back to her Lady. "How about you, milady? Did you make your peace?"

xxx Seeing the sudden well known movement of no harm is to be done, Mitre couldn't help but c**k her eyebrow once more. Most people wouldn't be so free of nature and would let their guard down in such a way- this wasn't making sense to her. Seeing him relax a little further and lean against the tree, she felt herself relax a little. Moving the spear to lay against a root that protruded from ground with the spear tip facing downward, Mitre shifted on her feet slightly before gripping onto the pelts that were closest to her sides in order to regain some warmth to her hands- without the fear of having them be removed, "Is that so? I do remember looking to a map once- then again that would have been some time ago..." Her memory was good- but it wasn't THAT good. For all she knew, she could be near one of the rival houses- that would certainly explain why he was all the way out here, patrolling perhaps? Better not to give away herself then, "Though, Theodell isn't too far off." Be that as it may, she was pretty sure of herself that it was safe distance from it.
xxxLooking to the male for a moment, Mitre tilted her head towards his question. It was quite true, but she wondered if she could sneak her way out of it, or just dodge it to the best of her ability- none that would work too well in her favor either way, "Indeed I am not." Of course due to the lack of cover in such a frigid area it would make her stick out like a sore thumb among anyone, "Could say I'm a traveler." Another not entire lie told. She was indeed traveling, "Would you be able to tell me just where I am?" It wasn't exactly helping her statement of not being lost with asking just where she was, but better to find out now than dig herself deeper into a whole and eventually find her way to Theodell and find an even worse fate than freezing to death.
xxxShifting her gaze from the stranger for a moment, she looked towards the sky as if searching for her companion. She hoped that he would have the decency to know when not to come around- then again as a dragon, he had just of a mind as herself to do as he pleases. Hearing a slight rumbling, she glanced down for a moment before taking note of her stomach growling, it had been awhile since her last meal. Nerva as well. That was a tragedy waiting to happen. Swallowing roughly, Mitre tried to push aside her discomfort before straightening her stature to look at the male once more, "Although it seem...Unnatural to ask of a stranger, but would you be able to spare anything to eat?" Great. Feeling like one of the beggars within the castle back home, she mentally shook it off as a disrespect to herself.

Hadrian stood with Denry in the courtyard of the Castle, having said his goodbyes to his dear sister. He had almost lost his composure when Rosie hugged him tight, but he managed to get through the event, and he promised her that he would watch out for everyone. He was sad to see her go, and he was weary of sending his sister off to some man he had never met. He had felt better about her match with the older Wykeham boy, Terryn, who had stayed with them for a short time before his disappearance, but he was protective of Rosie, and wished that he could go with her, at least to make sure she arrived safely and that she would be in good hands. However, he knew he couldn't do that, and so he had to be strong and let her go.

He had been about to turn and tease his cousin about his sister's lovely handmaiden Emeline, but a flicker of movement out of the corner of his eye caught his attention, and he glanced back towards the gate to see Leo racing after the carriage. Hadrian raised both of his eyebrows, a smirk forming on his lips as Denry spoke, shooting a look at him. "I did not, but I don't think I can honestly say that I'm surprised either." He replied to his cousin, beginning to chuckle. His chuckle turned into a full blown laugh as Denry threatened to deal with Leo on his own for causing problems. "I'm sure there is nothing to worry about." He tried to reassure the other man, though he wasn't entirely sure that was true. He had suspected for some time that his sister had had feelings for their friend, but she had never seemed to act on them, trying to do the responsible thing for her family.

Hadrian would be lying to himself if he were to say that he didn't half hope that Leo had gone out to drag his sister back to them and tell her that she wasn't allowed to leave. He had contemplated doing that himself. However, any speculations or concerns were dispelled when he spotted the two of them heading back towards the carriage from the forest. He pointed. "See, Denry? I told you everything would be alright."

A wrap of clarity was held close to her, and Emeline's words just made her feel it ever so available to her, it gave her strength. She smiled grateful at her friend. She went to squeeze the blonde's hand to show that even more before slouching in her seat and putting her feet up on the opposite seat in front of her. "Now we have to deal with this cart of hell for two days." She huffed. Rosina never was too fond of carriage rides, they left her always with a sore butt and a headache to bring down an army. An exaggeration, but she would much rather ride on a horse than on a wooden plank. The cushioning helped just slightly.

Watching Emeline roll her eyes at her comment only made Rosina grin go cheshire. They were just a couple of girls, having crushes, eating cake late at night talking about fantasies they probably would never bring to light. Emeline was her storage of secrets of the heart and she knew the loyal girl would never open her saintly mouth to anyone. Such trust was so hard to find, and she did not take that lightly. Sadness was not in her thoughts at the moment, it was a reassurance that this was a correct following.

Rosina's jaw dropped in a dourly way, shocked she would say such a thing. "Nonsense, Em! You helped a lot in our home, not just me personally. Of course they will miss you just as sorely. You are just as loved." Rosina's smile drained away slightly as she looked to the look on Emeline's face. Full raging emotion in the color in her face and sparkle in her eye. What a lucky man her cousin was to have such a girl as Emeline to find him noble enough to love, she thought laying her head back and smiling out the window.

Her cousin Denry was just as skilled at a sword than her brother and properly would be an excelling addition to any battle or scuffle. They were like the three lords of the battlefield. "You won't be forgotten." She reassured her as her head went to Emeline's shoulder to snuggle in, she would rather sleep as much as possible before having to face a Lion at the end of the road.

When Emeline turned it back on her, Rosina closed her eyes. There was a muteness to the lady for a moment before she finally spread the sweetest dreamlike smile across her face. She cleared her throat before opening her eyes, and looked up at her friend with an excitement. "I would like to say that he held me so tight, I thought my heart was going to burst." Her shoes clicked together as she laughed so full of a loving light, the memory fresh and pleasing at the moment, but she knew it would be pain for later. She knew she could handle it. "I actually started to ask him to run away with me, I believe." She cringed a bit due to how close she was to demanding it from him, but there were too many horrible outcomes to ever put someone she loved through such an ordeal.

She laughed before speaking in a rough, manly tone raising her hand in a fist. "To live off the forest and be wild." Her hand fell to pull up a blanket her mother had gave her just before she left. There sigil shining true on the warm reminder of home. "Yet, I could never. It was a nice idea, but this." She nodded her head. "There is peace now. I feel like this decision was for the best, for both my family and myself. I can only try my best to let him go now." She closed her eyes again as Rosina brought the blanket up to her chin and wiggled closer to her friend.

A feel of guilt tugged at her, like a doomed weight, but she had to ignore it. Rosina loved her friend to death but she would never make her stay away from her own happiness, which she was sure that was in Raorenson in Denry's presence. There was peace now, mostly with no strong malice, this was a time to be happy. In her mind's plan - after she was settled and for sure knew she could handle the Wykeham, she would send Emeline back. She just needed a little time to harden herself.

The sun was still so high in the air, but there was a chill of the wind as the horses kept pace with the reins-man's lead. Rosina found sleep as the hours ticked with the sun leaving them them, but as the men started to light torches for light they stopped in the middle of the forest, nothing but dark and high born trees looking down at them. Rosina jumped awake at the feel of the halting carriage. Her arms reached out to stretch them, and with a painful whimper she moved from her position and stretched her back. She looked to Emeline with widening eyes, trying to wake up, and grimace at her. "Perhaps we are stopping to rest for the night." She guessed, but this was the first time she had been so far from home, or on a trip at all. It was always the others that went out, while she stayed at home studying, guarded from the gods knew what. But this. It was so pitch black, at all times there was always a fire going in her room or at dinner, so to see it so dark only reminded her of that one time where Leo had rescued her in the dark woods. Thank goodness for the torches. It was cold as well, she could see her breathe before her. "Shall we stretch our legs?" She stood and went to open the door, but hearing a dispute outside, she listened holding up a palm to Emeline to wait. Something was off.

Looking at the circle of guard, the reins-man was in the middle of their interrogation. "You said you knew the road. You even went with a short cut, but I don't know these woods, are you sure?" The guard lead had a cross face, and his voice followed. "Someone get me a map," he snapped to one of the other guards as he took off to the back of the carriage. They were lost? Rosina face paled, but she had to find a calming balm. Turning from the window, she sat back poised in her seat awaiting. The reins-man reassured them of the road, that their path was just. The reins-man spoke a little more harsher to the guard lead. "You wanted a safe path, and thi - this is the safest path I know. Now, just a little farther! And we can rest." The guard didn't like that tone and he gave the small man a hard glower of his stature. "I don't trust this, let's turn it around. We'll find the inn where our second party is waiting. That was the plan and we are sticking to it. No more short cuts!" As the guard lead started to walk towards the carriage to inform Rosina no doubt, there was a loud sound, high pitch and carried wide. In the reins-man's mouth was the reason for the sound. A whistle of some sort? A warning. Rosina's arm went about Emeline's shoulders. Now instinct of fear was pressing in, something was wrong. Something was wrong.

Terryn raised an eyebrow at her as she began to speak again, not doing much to reinforce her assurance that she wasn't lost. At least she recognized that she was in the North. She did, however, reinforce his assumption that she was ill prepared for the frosty bite of this region, as she relaxed slightly to pull what she had for coverings more tightly around her. He saw her hesitate for a moment on his statement, before deciding to admit that he was correct, and she was not from these parts. He nodded, and rather than giving her a hard time for asking exactly where she was after telling him that she was not lost, Terryn responded politely. "You're actually on quite the opposite edge of the North from Theodell, bordering the Tundra. If you're trying to get to the city, I could point you in the right direction." He offered, not knowing that the girl had more desire to stay away from the Roarensons than to throw herself into their midst.

After a moment, the girl spoke again, obviously trying to look as dignified as she could while asking her next question. Terryn continued to stare at her a moment longer, thinking that it made her seem even more ill prepared than he had originally thought by her clothing, before giving another nod. "I do have enough, but I'm afraid it's at the camp I've set for the night, just up that way." He pulled his hand out of his pocket to point a thumb back behind him in the direction he had come from. He had left his camp from the night before set up, as he knew he wouldn't make it all the way back to the Rebel camp by nightfall. "If you'd like to join me, then I would be happy to offer you a warm fire and a meal. However, I understand if you're wary of following a stranger into the forest." Despite his often rash decision-making skills, and his easily offended ego, Terryn was still a gentleman, and he wasn't going to leave someone starving and freezing in the forest if they were asking for his help. Especially since she didn't seem to pose much of a risk to him -- unless she was really heading to Theodell, in which case he would have to be sure that the girl wouldn't mention seeing him. A single description of his appearance, and he was sure the entire Castle would know who it had been, even without his name. That would send them searching for him all over again, and he didn't want that.

Emeline giggled as Rosie put up her feet and cursed the coming carriage ride ahead of them. It was true, the trip would be uncomfortable, but at least they were making it together. It would be much worse to be alone on a trip like this, and Em couldn't imagine having sent Rosie to deal with the days ahead on her own. Although she was only a servant, Rosie treated the blonde girl with a certain amount of respect, and even an almost sisterly level of trust and love, and Em wouldn't break that trust for the world. Perhaps it was just the way the two of them were; accepting and kind-hearted.

Em's face turned pink again when Rosie, obviously shocked at her words, assured her that she was just as loved at the Castle, and would be missed as well. She gave the other girl a smile, as she leaned in to lay her head on Emma's shoulder. The handmaiden couldn't imagine that her disappearance would affect the Castle in any way, despite her Lady telling her she would not be forgotten. She was sure they would replace her easily, and some other girl would carry on having tea with Denry every Thursday morning, and the fact that she had ever existed in that world would slowly slip away.

Emeline leaned back in the seat as Rosie answered the question she had returned, sounding quite content. The blonde let her eyes close and a smile spread across her face. She was happy that the girl had gotten that moment. Em's eyes shot open again in momentary surprise when Rosie stated that she almost asked Leo to run away with her. After a moment the girl closed her eyes again and giggled. "I'm sure he would have gone with you." She said confidently. She strongly believed that if her lady told Leo of her feelings, he would return them, but she knew that Rosie had a responsibility, and could not find it within her to go against her family's wishes. Emma reached out and took Rosie's hand comfortingly, adding, "I know this was hard for you, milady, but I am glad that you now feel better about it -- And I will be here with you every step of the way." The girl smiled bigger, once again glad that she was here to offer her support in such a difficult time.

Shortly after Rosie had drifted off to sleep, Emeline had let herself doze as well. So when the carriage came to a stop, she was just as surprised as her lady. The blonde sat up sleepily, glancing around as Rosie tried to stretch the kinks out of her body. Em was ready to accept the other girl's explanation for their pause, however, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. The girl peeked out the carriage window to see dark woods and dark sky, and nodded hesitantly as Rosie suggested that they stretch their legs. She was about to follow, when her lady suddenly stopped at the door, holding up a hand. The handmaiden listened more closely, her "off" feeling only growing hearing the arguing that was taking place outside of the carriage -- presumably the reason that Rosie had stopped her from leaving after all.

Emeline sat back in the seat again, waiting for a conclusion to be reached outside. Suddenly a high pitched sound cut through the air. The girl sat bolt upright, startled by the eerie noise, when Rosie threw her arm around the blonde protectively. She felt dread deep in her stomach now, and the fact that her lady seemed to be feeling concerned now as well only made it that much more real. It meant that Em wasn't just imagining it. Something really was not right.

xxx Digging her heals into the ground beneath her, Mitre seemed to become rather agitated with the cold feeling and all around unpleasantness of the frigid air. Shivering she shook her head to herself as if pushing off her own thoughts for a moment only to turn her head for a moment away from the man. pursing he lips together for a moment she tilted her head slightly to the side before turning to look at him again, her eyes slightly narrowing at the mention of showing her the way to the kingdom. now was not the time to give one a piece of her mind, that's for sure. Instead she pulled her lips into a tight line before giving a sarcastic half-laugh, "There's no need." She said simply before relaxing slightly, "I have no need to make my way to Theodell. Nor do I want to." Her sharp tongue began to show as she nearly spat out her disinterest in traveling to the kingdom, "Maybe another time."- Or never really, that would work just fine for her.
xxxGlancing in the direction of where he had pointed, Mitre gave a very slight nod before looking back to him. He made a very valid point though. Trusting a complete stranger to give her a meal and some sort of stable keep for the night was plain idiotic. What if they were a hired hand to eliminate her? Or worse? Be that as it may, Nerva was never far behind. Speaking of which, she figured if anything, she could step out some time in the evening to give the dragon a meal of his own. Thinking it over, Mitre finally gave a half-hearted smile in a sense that would show it would be a grand offer, "If you would be so kind to." She said, at this point taking even more time to choose her words out carefully, "I don't know how I could thank you." Of course if she were to ever return home, she would certainly repay him with what little she had to herself- and maybe... even take the risk to sneak a bit more from her mother. It would be only fair that way.

Terryn raised an eyebrow at the girl's response to his mention of Theodell. He then let his features shift into a grin and chuckled as well. "No? I suppose that's a good thing, for me, then. I tend to avoid it, myself." He told her, though he didn't go any further into detail about the situation. He could hear the tone of disinterest and almost... hatred...? in her voice. That served well for him, though. At least he wouldn't have to worry about her slipping up and mentioning him in the city. Then, after a moment of deliberation over his other offer, she finally agreed, giving him a weak smile, though she still seemed sort of hesitant. Terryn pushed away from the tree he was leaning against, hands still in his pockets. He shook his head as he spoke. "Words are plenty, I'm not one to ask for much in return." He returned her smile, though his was more genuine and less half-hearted. He began to walk, then, gesturing for the girl to follow him. "My camp is just up here a ways. It shouldn't take too long to reach." He told her, pushing a bit further into the trees rather than heading back towards the path that he assumed this girl had come from. He usually stayed away from the main roads -- again, on the off-chance he may run into anyone who recognized him.

Terryn led the way for close to forty-five minutes before the two finally reached what looked like some semblance of a camp. There were some skins and blankets hanging from a tree branch, and a pile of sticks that would suggest a fire had been made previously. In addition to the bedding, a sack hung a bit higher in the branches of the tree, containing Terryn's food. He had to tie it high enough that no animals would get to it during the few hours that he had been away. He gestured around taking in the camp with his arms. "Make yourself at home." He joked, going to the tree that held his things and laying one of the animal skins on the ground so that the girl didn't have to sit on the dirt -- if she chose to sit at all. He then hoisted himself onto the lowest branch of the tree, reaching up to untie his sack from the higher branch. After retrieving it, Terryn set to work starting up a new fire. "What should I call you, then?" He asked as he smacked two stones against a bit of flint, thinking that now might be as good a time as any for introductions.

xxx Mitre held a rather surprised expression to his response of avoiding Theodell as well, "Really?" She didn't expect to get a reassurance answer from him, which was fine. Watching as he pushed from the tree, Mitre shrugged slightly, "I suppose so. However, I'm grateful for your kindness. You don't find many that would willingly help someone they do not know." It was true. You could never be too careful in a world such as this, you never knew just who you would meet. Leaning down to pick up her spear once more then placing it in a leather band that lie across her back. The girl followed behind him, "Hopefully not, I'm not sure if I would have made it much further." Trying to lighten the mood a bit more to ensure that there wouldn't be a threatening tension between the two.
xxxUpon entering the camp, Mitre glanced around. Looking to the male as he gestured to the camp, she chuckled lightly before nodding her head. Watching as he neared the tree that had several things hanging from it, she cocked an eyebrow a bit curious as to what he was doing. Seeing him pull a skin and lay it across the ground, Mitre tilted her head slightly before grabbing her spear and removing it from the band only to stab it into the ground near a tree. Walking over and kneeling down next to the skin, she ran her hand across it. It had reminded her of back home for some reason. Running through the surrounding fields, chasing wild boars and some sort of feathered bird with her older sibling and a younger one. Often they would hunt for dinner and their father would prepare it. That was years ago however, and it would never had been the same. Sitting on the skin at last, Mitre looked to him once more seeing as he was pulling himself up further into the tree towards a sack of some sort.
xxxLooking to the pile of sticks, Mitre nearly chuckled at the thought of him trying to start a fire with two stones- she figured though that that would have been utterly rude to someone helping her... and also the fact she came from an area where you could see a dragon once in awhile, "Hmm?" She unintentionally asked before looking to him then back to the sticks, "Mitre is fine." Figuring that it was good enough to just address her by a simple nickname rather than a official name.

Ravage Raine waited patiently in his position with his arrow set and bow drawn. His men were positioned in specific areas around the target area of the forest, each of them anticipating where and when the carriage may stop so they can begin their attack. It was only a matter of time now, and when they would hear the clicking of the horses shoes and the pull of the carriage followed by the signal, the their men would descend from the trees and brush to silence whatever lay in wake. These high brow snobs will never know what hit 'em.

Weeks earlier, they were approached by a very peculiar client carrying a large sack filled with gold. "From the House of Wykeham, and your orders," the messenger said. Ravage was handed a rolled up document, branded with the sigil of the Wykeham house. To know where their location meant that their client was a very well informed and possibly a dangerous, if not powerful, source. Ravage couldn't read at the time, but he nodded as if he understood what the note entailed. In this line of business, you tend to not question a bag full of money. "The second portion of your payment will arrive upon the completion of the task. Once completed you may meet me in the next town over." With that, the strange man left them with the sack of coins and the orders. Eventually one of Ravage's men was able to read the strange text on the page, and once understood, their objective was clear. There were not too many details about why their client wanted these people silenced though, but that was the last of importance to Ravage, at least, at the time.

Ravage never liked these kinds of jobs. Too often, when someone was needed to be 'silenced', it meant that men of power are either wanting more power or their own is being threatened. Ravage didn't know which of the two is involved in in this case and it was dangerous not to know. Too much risk involved, too many strings attached. But, now it was too late for that. He had accepted the money and he will just have to prepare for the consequences now. A shame he did not learn how to read sooner. As far as consequences go, there's got to be a way for escaping them.

The sounds of the traveling carriage came closer and closer until now the quarreling voices were clear as day. Then it happened. The signal mouthed by one of his own. It was time. Aimed and ready, he emerged from the bushes and shot the arrows into the carriage's wheels, causing the thing to break apart and the carriage to plop down and drag forward on the road until it stopped. The horses whined. From above, his dozen men descended from the tree line from the rope mechanisms they fashioned specifically for ambushes such as this. Watching them now, they all seemed very graceful in a deathly sort of way to Ravage. Most of them hit the ground and surrounded the carriage with daggers. Ravage then joined them. All of them pulled out their daggers in a synchronized motion and Ravage pulled forward.

"Come out now! Promise you, we won't kill you slowly if you play nice," Ravage called to the passengers inside the carriage.

"It's a pleasure, Mitre. My name is Terryn." He gave his own first name in return, offering up another smile. After a few more clicks of the stone, Terryn finally managed to get enough of a spark to set the flint smoking. He leaned in further, blowing lightly on the flint until the smoke turned into a glow, and then the glow a small flame. The flame began to grow on it's own, spreading across his pile of sticks, and the golden-haired young man leaned back with a satisfied look. He glanced to the girl and continued their earlier conversation. "When most of the people you come in contact with are people you do not know, you tend to be a bit more willing to offer a hand when one of them is in need." He then went back to the sack and dug around for a small loaf of bread that had been made at the rebel camp before he had gone out patrolling. He quickly removed his gloves, laying them on the hide mat beside him, and split the loaf in half with his hands, handing one of the halves to Mitre.

"So, if I might ask, where exactly are you from?" He asked to make conversation, pulling apart his own bit of bread and eating some of it as he waited for her answer. She had told him that she was a traveler, but he was curious how far she had come, being out of food and unprepared for the Northern weather. Terryn crossed his boots at the ankles in front of him as the fire before the two became hot enough to feel from where they sat. It was definitely nice compared to the near-freezing air that hovered over the forest. His hands had gone numb, despite having worn gloves and keeping them mostly tucked deep into the pockets of his jacket, but they were now starting to regain feeling. If one knew who he was and where he had come from, they might wonder why he had given up such a comfortable life and being an heir in favor of the icy Northern wilderness and consistently frozen fingers and toes, but in truth Terryn would take the struggle of this life over his former one any day. He just couldn't deal with the stresses of being nobility. He practically hated everything about the nobility, in fact.

Chaos erupted. Rosina tightened her hold on Emeline as time was ticking slow, than it bolted into action. Blood was going to flow fast. Rosina watched secured by the scene playing out before her large eyes. Never had she seen the eradication of a human life, but the lead guard didn't wait to ask questions, only screamed, "Traitorous scum!" before his blade sang through the night, the song of his blade cutting the man down where he stood right across his jugular. Rosina horrified closed her eyes and clapped her hand over her mouth. By the gods! She steadied herself as the guardsmen jumped into action, "Get to the reins, start back home immediately!" Rosina's breathing was shallow, but looking to Emeline, she gave her a careful smile. A wish for safety, a hope, was all that was held there. The whistle had been a warning, but from who and for what purpose. Her heart started to panic like a dove's cornered wing. Her hand squeezed for solace into Emeline's small shoulder. "We will be fine, you heard them, we are going home." She promised and tried to work the girl into comfort by soothing down a frail piece of the girl's golden hair. The paleness going to her friend's face, she couldn't help but to feel that if anything were to happen to her dear friend, the guilt would stab every moment. No, she was her sister.

As the carriage started to jolt to life and move, it seemed that in the rush there was no time to be scared. The sound of hooves clapping against the ground and the roar of the carriage as it started to try and turn around, to find their way back out of danger. Danger had already found them. In the veil of darkness, fear was plenty in Rosina's soul. It all happened to fast, but the sound of wood breaking, shattering cursed her ears. The horses roared in every direction. Sliding from the speed of the carriage, it eventually went off spilling to it's side still attached to the frightened ponies. Rosina's hands shot out to catch herself as she was sent in the direction of the capsized carriage. Groaning, Rosina picked her head up caught in an blank reality as she stared up at the other side of the carriage's window glaring down at her, a black square of stars. Blinking fast, realizing this was truly real and at once, she pushed to try to get up as a voice emerged from outside. Demanding and true to his word as a killer. Emeline had fallen on top of her and, in a panic, she started to shake her shoulder fast. When she responded, Rosina sighed in relief. Outside, however, things were escalating.

The lead guard put himself before the stranger and his princess, sword at the ready, as well as the other guards that followed his cue battling the bandits of daggers, arrows, and odd devices they had never come across. Gruff and cross that he had been both betrayed and now outnumbered, the lead guard's voice whipped out to the one that spoke; prominently the leader. "If you think you are touching a hair on our princess's head, you are gravely mistaken." The guards steadied themselves, waiting for the strike. They only had six men, but these men were Raorenson protectors, and they were ready to give up their lives for their king's blood. With a roar, the battle jumped to life, swinging their blades with combat skill. The guard lead had taught the young Hadrian, and he knew he couldn't fail.

Inside the carriage, Rosina heard the commotion outside and pulled herself to climbing over Emeline to grab the window seal and pull herself up. "Emeline, give me a boost." In her tone, her voice was harsh, demanding, she needed to see what was going on. Getting help from Em, a bit shaky at the beginning, she slowly pushed open the carriage and looked around. Two of her men had already been defeated, blood fresh out of their fallen bodies. Her eyes tightened in regret for their lives. She was left with two options: trust her party, or run. It would definitely lead some away, help them even the odds. There was a struggle of ability. What if she lost her way, or even lost sight of Emeline. Inhaling strongly, she slowly opened the door putting it carefully on its side as the sound of steel on steel continued. "More Em." She asked in frantic huffs as her hands both sides of the opening and started to push herself out with help.

She felt in the open, weak as she buckled down on the unstable carriage. Constantly looking over her shoulder, she dug her hands in for Emeline's. "Hurry. We are going to run." Keeping her eyes locked with Emeline, the wide seriousness of her brown orbs she hoped would have her follow suit. She knew her, she could do this. Pulling her up was a difficulty, but eventually she was able and the last was her feet. Huffing, she looked up and at that moment, the guard lead named Jurax, someone that had been by her father's side, her brother's side fell to his knees. When he did fall, her eyes met with the man who had done it.

A fear shot into her spine at the style of his face, fear of nothing, determined to do whatever necessary. It made the girl jump to action as another guard put himself between the girls and the rough looking assailant. "Em, hurry. Hurry." She grabbed the girl's hands and started to lower her down the side of the carriage. Rosina went to follow, but as she moved fast, an arrow clipped between her skirts and the wood, stopping her momentarily from going over. She felt like - it was not a warning shot. Ignoring ill advised words, she gripped the arrow's shaft and ripped it out before jumping full over.

Landing on her boots, there was a slight wobble in her, but she jumped to a run, gripping her friend's hand with one and the arrow in the other. It was all rush, breathe harder, pick up your feet. Try to feel the darkness, don't trip! It was so dark, Rosina couldn't see in front of her face, her hand pressing into trees, stepping into holes, but the arrow was so gripped in her hand, sworn not to lose it. For her other hand, she had never held on to Emeline so tightly, she was also one she was sworn not to lose. To be alone out there, it truly was the worst, and she had felt it once before and she would never feel it again. Gasping, the girl's were sent tumbling down a slope, decaying leaves creating a slip. As they laid there gasping for breath, Rosina thought of Leo, and tears went to her eyes. She had seen people die for her. And bringing her vibrating hand to her face, she knew she had to stop thinking about it. Think about now. What would Leo do in this situation? He was a hunter sworn and true. Gripping at the leaves, she started to push them over Emeline. "Shh." She tried to calm her covering her body up, able to see it as she started to adjust to the dark.

Laying down, she hurried to try and do the same to herself. Soon, there breathing was still and she closed her eyes and tried not to feel the itch of the leaves on her face. If they could do this until morning, they could make a start from there. The arrow that was held, she hoped - could she use it? She stayed there for a moment in the quiet, how would she use it? To think she was in this place, Rosina would never want to have the gull to hurt someone.

Ravage's eyes lit aflame as he lunged forward. His dagger - cleaned, sharpened and polished - glinted in the moonlight and reflected into tiny specs on the ground. That's how he knew that his blade was fit for a killing. Ravage was focused now. His eyesight aimed for the girlish figures that were attempting to escape into the night. He knew they would not get far. He could hear his men jostling with the guards, almost singing as if their fight was like a petty game. They skipped around, slicing and cackling at the armored men like baboons discovering a new toy. The guardsmen did their best to defend themselves, but to no avail. Their unorthodox bandit combat was difficult to predict, and often caused the opponent's to unintentionally reveal vulnerability in their defence to which the bandits took full advantage of.

Ravage was behind them all, observing the scene and making his way forward. Hearing the sounds of clashing steel and muffled yelps motivated him a bit more. This was an easier job, but he still hadn't taken the princess out. He dashed toward the fallen carriage, each footstep heavy but precise in movement, making his way toward his target. One of the guards must have seen him coming, clever fellow, and blocked his line of sight. I see, so you're the leader, Ravage leaped and drove the sharp edge of his knife into the man's neck before he could move into a defensive position. Red spurted out and sprayed all over Ravage's arm, causing him to feel great displeasure and scowl. His eyes rose to his target as the knife was still puncturing the guard's neck, driving it in more and more. He watched the princess and she watched him back as the sound of the man choked on his own blood and sank to his knees. The old guard died by Ravage's hand, and it was all because of her.

Ravage pulled the dagger from the man's bloody corpse and sheathed it, now pulling out his bow and arrow and aiming it towards the escaping targets. He shot out, but he knew that he would never get a clear shot in the dark. Behind him, the scuffle had diminished into a single voice whimpering in pain, and a few mocking chuckles. Ravage turned. Armored bodies lay on the dirt road while his men were pulling their blades from their corpses or waiting for Ravage's next order. There was one guard left, looked like a young one, who was pinned to the tree by an arrow that he couldn't release. The soldier held out his sword with one arm trying to protect himself with a sloppy hand induced by pain. One of the bandits was playing with the pathetic man, inflicting little cuts on him where he could not defend. The others were chuckling at the spectacle. "Fools!" Ravage shouted. Both the bandit and the guard flinched and the sound of his anger. "We're not done here. Kill him quickly so we can find the princess." Like an obedient dog, the lackey bowed his head in shame and with a quick hand plunged the knife behind the young man's chin and into his head. He died with a face of terror. Suddenly, the bandits turned towards the forest and started running, searching for the eloped under Ravage's orders. "Don't kill them yet, fools," he called to his men. "I have plans for them."

He, too, would go with them and search but before that, he kneeled on the carriage to pay respects to his fallen brother in arms. It was his man gone undercover as an agent and now his body was splayed out and his face contorted and ill-looking. This man did well to meet them here, but this was an unnecessary death. "You bloody fool, if you were good enough, they wouldn't have known that you had betrayed them." Ravage closed the eyelids with gentle fingertips to hide the empty eyes that stared back. "You will be missed, brother." With that, Ravage howled and searched the darkened forest. It smelled of iron and mud.

Ahead of him was one of his men, Korus, who had been searching a specific area, sniffing the air for their perfumed scent. Ravage had always thought this companion like a feral animal, looking for his next kill with heightened senses. They used to make fun of Korus, saying that he was raised by wolves. But even though they mocked him, they knew the instincts of a wolf have great use. Finally, something caught Korus' attention - a scent that was hearthy and smelled vaguely of peppermint and flowers. He followed the scent, stalking it through the dark as if making a rucus would scare his focus away. The scent grew stronger and stronger as he traversed down the deep hillside until finally under some brush he noticed something out of the ordinary textures of the leaves and foliage. Was it velvet? Cloth? Then, it was confirmed that he had found the girls when he saw the blonde braid poking out from under the leaves. With a pull, Korus lifted the small blonde woman from her hair and held her up to him. He then let out a piercing screech, signaling his comrades that he had found the targets and was now in contact with them.

At the sound, Ravage and his men lifted their heads to look in the direction that the scream was coming from. Korus had found them. The dozen mercenaries then rushed toward Korus together and made their way down the hill with Ravage following cautiously behind them.
