The Fallen offered a scowl, her blue eyes narrowed. "No, it doesn't," Cassie confirmed. already a bit of bite to her voice with both Aten and Rhys out of sight. She didn't need to be polite anymore. "I go along with your antics because I love you Smolder but geeze, think. If you would have asked even in on the spot and you only gave me two seconds to decide, I would have gone along with it. I always do." Her tone was bitter, her wings stretching towards the ground to hang low. She honestly felt a little like she had been taken advantage of but she didn't say it because she knew that wasn't the right angle. She still wanted the ability to say yes even if Smolder's assumption would have granted it anyways was correct. Cassie wasn't one who enjoyed being cornered into a decision or opinion.
"I'm almost out of the Academy. You've been out for a while now so maybe it didn't occur to you that I'd upset my time to be an adult and finally live freely has already been given away," she sucked in her lower lip, biting at it as she glanced away. "I know you're impulsive sometimes but damn." Face still soured, she gave him the full force of her glare, ear tuft twitching.
"And two, you were dumb and did it during October," she rumbled, shaking her head a little. "That's as far as I'm going with that. But seriously. You realize how that could have gone with the Curse, right?" Cassie challenged her boyfriend to be practical for a moment. It wasn't exactly something that could be taken back or held against Rhys but ooh, it frustrated her.

Smolder leaned against the wall of the hallway, arms folding over his chest as he waited for Cassie to unload in to him. He was expecting the absolute worst -- expecting for her to lay in to him like she had never laid in to him before. But when the fallen finally spoke her piece, he found himself blinking, a bit shocked by how passive her aggression was. He had been expecting much worse. Or was this just some kind of trap that he was being lured in to that he hadn't quite spotted yet? Was there a right or a wrong answer here, and where did the line lie between what he felt he could say and what was allowed to be said? Smolder didn't know, and he assumed that any answers he could possibly give Cassie would just make the situation far worse than it already was. He had not set out to alienate or make an enemy of his girlfriend, but he felt perhaps his attempts to bring them all closer together had backfired. With a heavy sigh, Smolder dropped his arms from around his chest, reminding himself to keep open body language during their argument. He didn't want to seem closed off or like he was tuning her out. "I know, Cassie ... I know." he started. "Honestly, I don't know what to say. I don't know what I can say that's going to make an ounce of difference. Yes, I suppose I could have waited to wake the stone. And yes, I should have definitely waited for you before I even considered having a child or imbuing a stone on my own. I know I shouldn't have done a lot of what I did, but I did it anyways, and I can't exactly change what has already happened. I know I tend to do some really stupid things when left to my own devices ... and that. This was probably the last stupid thing you were expecting me to do, but .... I dunno. I was lonely at Asterion. At least you had Aten here ... I dunno. I can't really rationalize it to you. I don't know how I even rationalized it to myself to begin with. But somehow, I did. And maybe it was just the Universe directing me to something more. Some greater path that I'm supposed to be on. My life has felt a lot more complete and full since awakening Rhys ... and I wanted to share that with you. Can you really blame me for that ... ?"

That was true. Cassie didn't know what she wanted Smolder to say. "Don't," she snapped over him at the mention of the Imp. Cassie raised a finger, still scowling something fierce. "Don't act like Aten was my magical cure all, or that we've been friends since you left. It hasn't been that long at all." The Fallen's wings bristled behind her, sweeping a little against the ground. It was true. She hadn't reconnected with Aten until almost a month ago, and at the start it was more inconsistent than the end. "I've been just as lonely here without you." She looked away from him, squeezing her own arm. That wasn't terribly new though. Life had been boring and lonely well before Smolder had come into the picture - it just had been a momentary adjustment for the few months he had left in the Academy.
"No, it wasn't something I was expecting," Cassie also confirmed, tongue still sharp. "Is this something I have to add to my daily worries? That'll you'll come wandering back from the cache or orphanage with another kid? What the hell does it evolve into - found a nice lady on the street to have a spontaneous wedding with? Accepted a job on the next continent?" She shook her head, surprising herself as she had to wipe at her eye. She wasn't hurt more than he had made the decision without her, but her frustration was bubbling over and she scrubbed away a tear a little confused. Why was she crying? The Fallen didn't know other than her nerves were tense and Smolder was stupid.
"This doesn't help me figure out where we stand," Cassie muttered bitterly. "Yes, you thought of me but this whole fiasco doesn't help me figure out how we.... do us. What is supposed to be normal for us?" Her ear tufts wiggled as she wiped at her eye again. Damn. She still kept considerable distance between the two of them. "I'm sorry I'm upset that sharing with me was an after thought. That doesn't strike a vote of confidence." Her frown was sharp and Cassie sighed, folding her arms tighter against her chest. "Aten and I were so damn good, I tried so hard to make sure nothing happened before we asked that could be considered wronging you of anything. Yes, it was out of blue for you as it was for me, but at least the only thing I sprung on you was the option." She blew a breath out of her nose, immediately rubbing it with the back of her hand. "I don't get to walk away from this unless I want to lose you." Cassie brought in her lip. "And I don't want to. So here I'm stuck."
She went back to rubbing her eyes, growing more and more agitated with herself. What was her problem? It was just... a massive weight, and while she was quietly delighted to help raise a child with Smolder and she was going to stick around, she just felt heavy. Cassie hadn't even made it out of Academy yet (no matter how close to graduation she was), and to just wake up with a kid that needed your responsibility any time you could offer it was just a lot. Usually the proper way with consent and rational thought there was some mental preparation. Something to look forward too. The Fallen didn't even know why she was crying now and she shook her head a little. "I -" she gasped a little, immediately clamping her mouth shut to re-gather herself. "I don't know what I want from you Smolder! You're just stupid sometimes. I would have been so happy if you would have just waited to imbue with you." She rubbed at her nose again, looking away. "This is just a lot to wake up to, and expecting me to roll over and be delighted just isn't logical."
Using her whole palm, she tried to wipe off her cheek but it didn't really help as she was still crying. Her wings continued to droop. "Just - say you're stupid and say your sorry. I don't even know what I need to hear other than you love me," she grunted. "I-I want to be around for you and Rhys. I'm not going anywhere but I at least deserve a little adjustment period before I start fielding the calls from school and dressing him in the morning."
Ember-Babe I should note what Cassie is frustrated about is nothing I'm upset about. rofl

Smolder just watched on in silence. He watched her ride through her own emotions, and each new point she raised left his heart aching and sore, and eventually he couldn't look at her anymore, eyes dropping to stare down at the tiles on the floor. He. Had been stupid. And he was beyond sorry. Bolting his eyes to try and deny the fact Cassie was crying in front of him, he stepped forward and scooped her up in to his arms and clamped her smaller body against his tightly. He hugged her so fiercely he thought, for just a moment, he might crush her. But she needed to feel how sorry he was, because his words would not be enough. "I love you, Cassie-birb. I promise you. I won't do anything this irrational without letting you do it with me or talk some sense in to me if it's so stupid even you wouldn't do it. And ... no more kids. Unless they're all three of ours."Panda Moor dngisjdhnj AAAW BAAABBBBY /HUGS CASSIE crying Also. INTENT RP OUT OF THE WAY? HAHAHAHA.

At first Cassie fought him, pulling away briefly but after a heart beat she relaxed into him. She was still upset with him but unsure what she even wanted, it was pointless to keep dragging him around through her emotions. "Dead serious," she muttered, pressing her face against his sweater. "Another random baby and you're out." There was very little joke to her tone.
After a long while she pulled away, more carefully wiping at her face this time in an attempt to salvage her makeup that had already long been lost hours before. She sighed, squeezing Smolder's arm before taking a step closer. "A child 'cause you're lonely," she sighed softly, fixing her hair. "Honestly Smolder. A Vespercat is easier." She pressed her face back into his chest, deflating.

Smolder's eyes suddenly went large. "Vespercat?" he said almost hesitantly. He suddenly wondered what would become of his four familiars back at Asterion ... an wondered if he had remembered to ask someone to feed them for him. Otherwise he was going back to a house full of dead things he was going to have to dispose of. But he didn't want to admit that to Cassie ... "Ahahahaha, yaaaah! Yer probably right, love! Totally would'a been easier than a baby! Hahaha ... haaaa. Hoo." He loosened his grip on her, still looking terrified. If she ever finds out, I am so doomed. I will never live it down.Panda Moor Wait, Aten already said he wants kids of their own several posts ago. WAHOO. Go Aten! You're ahead me, as always. Totally awkward to have your character always been 10 steps ahead of you. Reeewd.

She pulled away the slightest, raising a brow. You know what, she wasn't going to ask. That was usually her motto and in most cases it seemed to work out rather well. The pink-winged Fallen hummed a little instead, wiping away the last remains of her crying with the sleeve of her sweater. She didn't need anyone questioning, especially her new Imp boyfriend.
"Should I be worried about our poor, sensible Aten at this point?" Cassie asked in a semi-serious tone, dragging her hands down until they found Smolder's. She gave a brief squeeze, a few different scenarios already playing out in her head back inside the nursery. "If Rhys is truly anything you, I feel like we've left Aten at the mercy of your prodigy for too long." There was a faint smile to her lips, something akin to her usual self.

Smolder leaned in and kissed each of her cheeks, trying to kiss the last of her tears away, but instead got a mouth full of smeared make-up he hadn't intended on sampling and tried his best not to grimace so close to her face. He pulled away and tried to grin despite the weird flavour in his mouth. "Unfortunately, I get the distinct impression he's too much like me. He has probably puked up his lunch everywhere by now. I can only imagine Aten lost in a sea of disgustingness by now ... good thing Rhys isn't part chimera or we'd probably have some fire breathing issues, if the child has my sense of luck at all. And by 'luck', you know I mean -- babahahahah WHATLUCK." The fallen's face grew serious again. Almost deadpan before he suddenly bolted back in the door in awkward, long strides. His child wasn't part chimera, right? Aten wasn't burnt to a crisp? Ohdeargods. Please let the child only be part litch and part fallen. Why couldn't he remember what races they were!?

Cassie chuckled softly, none the wiser to his predicament. There was a lot she accepted as Smolder just being expressive. "Do you typically have issues with that?" the Fallen asked, arching a short pink brow as he mentioned puking. Before she could tease him any further, Smolder was out of her hold and down the hallway. Either Smolder knew something about Aten she didn't, or he was truly frightened about what his son was capable of.
Of course, she had no doubt that with Rhys their usual brand of luck would only increase tenfold as natural child mischievousness got mixed in. She sighed, fixing herself before following at a more relaxed pace. As Cassie came in, she held her hand in front of her eyes. "Tell me if it's alright to look," she sighed around a smile, folding one arm across her chest to support her elbow. Her wings had perked back up, once again neat behind her shoulders.

The door swung open as Smolder burst through the room, panting heavily in his panic. But just as soon as he burst in, he felt suddenly at ease. Over on the couch, Aten was lying down, his long, tall body stretched over the length of the couch and limbs draping off the ends where they didn't quite fit. And nestled in his fur was little baby Rhys, napping angelically in his warmth, clutched protectively between Aten's arms. The rise and fall of Aten's chest as he breathed had soothed the child in to sleeping. It had been quite the eventful day for the new family, and Aten himself had been feeling emotionally exhausted. The waiting, the conclusion to what would become of the three of them, and then the introduction of a baby ... ? It had taken its toll on the tower of an imp. During his trials with Smolder and Cassie he had learned to become outwardly unaffected by things when in the public eye. But when left alone to his own devices and unwatched, the Imp usually let his negative feelings truly show in whatever way they might manifest. This time around, Aten was exhausted. After Cassie and Smolder left for their talk, the caretaker who Smolder had called in a favour with had to return to their duties with the Freshlings, and Aten told her that he could handle one child. And it was true. The two lying there looked perfectly happy, and all the worries that Aten had previously had easily melted away when the two finally got a moment alone together. Smolder couldn't help but to smile to himself as he heard the low, barely existent rumble of Aten's snore. Yes, it was true he did not love Aten romantically. But seeing Aten connecting so well with his child filled him with hope that maybe their group dynamic really would succeed. Leaning up against the door frame, folding his arms, Smolder just watched, beaming with a soft, warm, and quiet pride.

When nothing came in response, the Fallen let down her hand. Smolder wasn't far off, and she tilted to her head to the side before finally noticing the complete picture. Oh. "I didn't think we were at it for that long," Cassie snorted, her words a half whisper. She couldn't help but yawn in response to the sight, blinking a little in surprise. She was really exhausted after their day, everything intense in one way or another from the start. Content (and unsure what waking Aten would bring), the girl found her usual spot beside Smolder, pressing up against his hip as she nestled under his arm.
