“Yeah. Land of rainbows and sunshine, our division,” he answered back, moving his mug to make swirls in his coffee.
He continued to look at Hattie with slightly-narrowed eyes. Wilson listened attentively to every word she said. Sometimes his eyes drifted slightly to observe different parts of her face, but otherwise he seemed still as a statue. Even as she finished, asked him for his opinion, he remained frozen for a while longer.
“Well,” he started, “there’s plenty to research, so there’s no meaning in asking if it’s good or bad. But with respect to our efforts ask yourself how exactly is this useful? What aftereffects have you already seen to warrant this study? What are you hoping to find that will be useful and how will you apply it? Is this important enough to warrant the use of the island’s financial resources? What, exactly, are you looking for in a scanner-radar? I assume it’ll be FEAR-based, and how exactly will you get this scanner to give you the details you want? Is it even possible? If you’re interested in their molecular structure, someone with a background in marine biology would be most helpful. Afterwards, I’m sure there’s someone researching FEAR on a molecular level, and you can ask them for assistance.” Wilson continued to ramble without batting an eye. “If you wish to apply your potential results to humans I am more than willing to assist, because that’s what my degree is mostly based on. Assistance with runic technology will be hit-or-miss because I’m not in the appropriate division for that, but I can still help if you want. It seems interesting.”

"Sounds like it!" Hattie chuckled. Yep. Definitely going to avoid Caelius for as long as Hunterly possible.
Wilson went on to give his two cents to her information, and she listened intently, taking in everything he had to say. There were some great points in there, and certainly enough to think about. Most of it seemed geared to her already existing research, which she would happily take back to Zeke for further examinations, but the pieces that seemed more geared towards her potential work was put more emphasis on, at least in her head, for the time being.
"I'll have to think on the greater majority of what you said, it's all very great points and I definitely appreciate it." Harley nodded, smiling away at how great this all was for her. Someone was actually listening to her, and providing a lot of great insight.
"But…I do know I want to be able to great a device that would tell us what we go up against. Not just that there are hostiles in the area, but to be able to say like - Haunted House for example. It would take the guesswork out of patrol. We could walk into a room, and say, 'there's an object head around the corner'. Maybe it could even be honed enough to gauge their power level. It'd be harder to be caught unprepared if we could figure that out. I was thinking of taking samples from the creepy crawlies in the haunted house - I actually already have one from a very friendly halloween kid." She laid out what little she had, plan wise.
"My radar's all just a plan right now. I'm a Trainee so they won't put much faith in me, but I still wanted to try and peck away at it, you know? At the very least I could use someone to come with me when I went to get samples."

These were mostly questions Wilson had to ask himself because Caelius undoubtedly asked him these sorts of things one way or another. Or just skipped straight to the you’re absolute trash, why do we still keep you here? Because we’re so ******** kind, that’s why spiel, which he’d heard numerous iterations of. He was beginning to grow tired of it.
He squinted his eyes at Harley. An object head? So down to the very species? “I would suggest to broaden your scope to the five basic factions. Not only do you have to input data for folklore species, but modern ones too because new races are always being created from FEAR. On top of that, further variations can exist within a given species and certain weaknesses and strengths may consequently differ. These variations may arise from an epigenetic-like mechanism, but I frankly don’t know. Regardless, just coding that sheer amount of information into the radar, or into a database the radar could access, is too voluminous. Besides, certain species-specific strengths and weaknesses may or may not be useful to know depending on your team composition. Factions have common weaknesses and strengths, and I think that’ll suffice for everyday purposes.” Wilson rested his hand against his cheek. “As someone who specializes in singular incidents, I could utilize species characteristics, but I don’t think most people can.”
“I think being able to gauge general power level is a great idea, though, and should be relatively simple to input.” His fingers rhythmically tapped against the table. If such a device could be developed, then perhaps one geared toward objects and artifacts could also be made, and that would similarly be useful. “The stuff you’re doing sounds interesting, so if you need a full hunter to help out you can hit me up.”

Gosh, was she ever thankful for Ever's strange three-in-the-morning request. This was turning all sorts of profits for her! The redhead nodded along to the way he talked through the problem, though she had pouted a little bit when he recognized how difficult her initial idea was.
"I think you're right - general power level and perhaps faction would be the best way to start." Harley hummed thoughtfully, leaning back in her chair enough to cross her legs. "And likely the easiest thing to pin down FEAR-wise. I mean, each faction already has their skills and weaknesses, right? It'd have real world benefits if we could pinpoint those, so we know what we're dealing with early on." While she still wanted to do the down-to-the-specie categorizing, she still could at least understand how difficult it would be. There were still animal species that regular Humans hadn't discovered after all; never mind a sect of monsters that only a handful knew existed.
"My dream is still specie categorizations! Perhaps maybe not with the radar now, but still." A dreamy sigh later, and she once more focused on Wilson, practically sparkling with excitement.
"Really? You mean it?!" She leaned in again, reaching across the table to grab one of his hands with both of hers, if he'd let her. "You're the best! I'm really super glad I got to meet you!" Wiggling, she let him go, and fished a small notepad and tiny pen from one of her pockets - which was a feat in itself, considering how short her shorts were, and how not-obvious her coat's pockets happened to be.
"Can you write down your information for me? And like, general hours that you keep?" After flipping the notepad open to a fresh page, she pushed both it and the pen across the table. "I have a bad habit of super late night visits so…" She trailed off, leaving the threat there.

He nodded to confirm. “They do. I can give you a quick rundown of faction traits later.” Wilson sat up, leaned back slightly, but still continued to slouch noticeably. “Species categorization is cool, but more of a pipe dream. You can input certain common species, I guess.” Just trying to remember the basics for as many species as possible was a handful for Wilson. There were simply too many to research and commit to memory.
When Hattie reached for his hands, Wilson stiffened, but didn’t pull away. “Yeah. It sounds promising.”
He reached for the pen to write down his contact information, but his eyes ran off the page at the mention of time. “Uuuuh, they’re very random, but late night visits are fine.” There was no need to tell her about his sleep problems. She could probably deduce that herself.

"I would love that! I mean, I already love reading about them, but talking would be so much more fun!" It meant being closer to people, or just being with people in general, which was always a massive plus to her. Books were great, but people always trumped them.
Hattie noticed the way he stiffened, but since he didn't pull away or make any other signs of discomfort, she simply continued what she was doing, without bringing light to his reaction. His comment on his hours did make her grin though.
"That's a bad thing to tell me, Wilson!" She laughed, happily and easily, and waited for him to finish with the paper and pen before taking it back, glancing over the information to make sure it was what she needed. A new page was turned, and she jotted down her own information, which included her name, phone number, and dorm number. "I'm good with late night visits too. I share a room with someone though, so maybe a call or text ahead would be a good idea." A sigh was heaved. "Last time I woke him up in the middle of the night, I ended up getting thrown in the lake!" It was not something she wanted to repeat -
Okay, maybe she did, but not because she interrupted Tommy's beauty sleep.
"Here!" She tore out the page she had been writing on, and held it out to him. "My information. For if you wanna talk shop or just hang out with me, ooooor if that 'maybe' of yours in regards to my friend turns into a 'yes'!" She added, with a grin and a wink.

“If you have questions about other things, you can ask those too. It’s best to ask someone from Death.”
Lips curled into a tiny smile; his eyes drooped as he grabbed the mug with both hands and drank more coffee. “It’s only bad if it ruins your sleeping schedule.” It was damn near impossible to ruin his because it barely existed. As he continued to drink, he reached out for the slip of paper. Dark eyes glanced at them briefly before stuffing it into his coat pocket. “Duly noted.”
“Ah.” He bristled, shoulders rising slightly and eyes widening before quickly recomposing. “Your friend…honestly I would have to meet him to give you a definite answer.” Wilson sheepishly looked to the side, trying to cover his face by drinking from the mug again.

"Nah man, I'm good. You just try to ruin it!" It was a proud challenge, and one she straightened up a bit for, smacking her chest with the side of a closed fist. "I'm good! S'all good." Laughing a little, she relaxed again, and leaned forward to prop herself up on the table.
"Gosh, you're so cute when you smile." She teased honestly, wrinkling up her nose in a playful expression. Tiny smile or not, it was the second one she had seen, and the first that wasn't dry. Watching him bristle and recompose himself was also considerably fun for her, and she grinned all the way through it, finding herself absolutely enjoying any small hint of expression or fidgeting he would allow.
"That's fair! I can arrange for you two to meet if you want. I can call you once I talk to him?"

He stood at attention for a moment, tired eyes widening at Hattie. For a moment, the man looked at her with confusion before wonder began to spread across his face, starting with the slight part of his lips before coming to the dim glow flickering in his eyes. A million things seemed to cycle through his head in that brief second before he flinched and looked away with a flushed neck, the heating beginning to rise toward his face. “Oh.”
Head hanging low, Wilson brought a hand to his neck and rubbed the warmth away. “Um. Yeah. That works.”

Oh no he was so cute!
Hattie stared in amused awe as several emotions flickered across his face, and finally settled to lower his head and rub the back of his neck. It was adorable, and he was adorable, and she was suddenly quite pleased with all of this. For a little while there, he had been a mask of nothing, and now, he wasn't as much of one. It was fantastic.
"Alright! I'll leave you to your day then. I'll call you a-sap!" She pushed herself to stand, but instead of walking away, she rounded the table to stand near him, holding her hand out. "It was really great to meet you, Wilson! Thanks for being so patient."

“Mm. Yeah.” As the conversation seemed to finally wind down, so did Wilson. The tension slowly evaporated from his muscles, starting with the shoulders. He reached for his mug to take another sip, but paused midway when he noticed Hattie’s outstretched hand. For the briefest of moments, Wilson stared at it blankly before finally setting down his cup and reaching out to grab it.
Frankly, his grip was weak, if it was even existent at all. Strength had never been his forte, but after all these years something had managed to whittle his power down to almost nothing. But for a moment, she would at least feel some sort of effort on the man’s part as he grasped her hand before sliding his hand out of hers and once again reaching for his coffee. “Likewise.” A gentle voice that seemed to disappear beneath the drink. “You can text me any questions.”

By contrast, Harley's handshake was firm and sure. For a moment she thought she was going to break him, and as his hand slipped out of hers and instead reached for the coffee, she could only stare at him.
A weak handshake, though he had tried to put effort into it later, made her wonder. All of a sudden she saw him in a different light, and she wasn't quite sure what to make of it. A few blinks later and she wiped the surprise off her face, replacing it with that impeccable grin and that dazzling, shining personality of hers.
"Will do! Have a good one, buddy!" And with that, she left him alone with his coffee, and went off to harass someone else.
