Talya breathed a sigh of relief when Malachi broke the sequence. She was afraid that four would be covered before they got to her! She stood up and took a deep breath. "My favorite number is four," she said loudly, "because it is a very even number, and it looks nice." Her bit said, she sat down and looked around at the rest of the class.

Math test!? Aten mentally whined. Maaath test? The imp slouched in his chair with a sigh. Math was the one subject he hated above all else. It wasn't that he was bad at it. He just didn't understand the point of it. He felt like he was wasting his time. Sure, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing were useful tools ... but ... full algebraic equations? That was a bit much. When would he use all these brackets? When would he ever remember that () could be a place holder for 0. It frustrated him. Despite digging his heels in to the ground, Aten ended up doing fairly well on the test, and nearly aced it ...

Judas scanned the room, watching the juniors working on their tests- and then stopped, unwavering gaze focusing entirely on Elliath. Cheating was not tolerated. Though it seemed some of the others were struggling, perhaps for this first offense he would be lenient.
He stood from his desk, and picked up a different sheet of paper to carry over to her. Thank fully she was towards the back, so he didn't have to embarrass her too much in front of the others. The short litch came to a stop next to her desk, and then placed a hand on the edge. "Elliath. I do not tolerate cheating in my class. I will give you a chance to make this up, you can take this test instead. It is different from the others." He carefully removed the test she had been working on, and then set the new one on her desk.
"In the future, you will be reported for this and you will receive a failing grade. Please be more considerate." He nodded, and then shuffled back to the front to retake his seat at the desk.

Re-roll one 100-sided die! If you roll 40 or above, you pass! If not, too bad Elliath, you'll have to take the class again. :C

Just as she was finishing the last problem, Ellaih heard the scuff of feet against the floor. 'Please, please, please, don't be the teacher,' she desperately wished. 'Please just be someone going to turn in their test.' For a half a second she had hope, but the second he spoke she knew it was futile. He had caught her. Cheeks blazing, she nodded mutely in response to his reprimand. Meekly taking the quiz, she wrote her name at the top and then waited as he went back up to the front of the class before looking it over. Maybe this one would be easier?
Oh, OH. For whatever reason, the second test made a lot more sense than the first one had. Maybe it was the fact that she had now memorized the previous formula or maybe she'd finally understood what the test was actually over. Whatever the cause, Elliah had a much easier time solving the problems on the second paper. Her heart rose from her toes to somewhere in her stomach and she was able to give the teacher a small sheepish smile as she turned it in. She would have to do something to make up for the cheating, she just didn't know what yet.

 Favorite number?
Why did that matter? And what did it have to do with actually doing math? Prometheus was not sure he liked this very much. But he supposed it was an easy task, he might as well take it. With a sigh he watched the others explain their reasoning, most of it coming across as very... childish - then again he was... unusually grown up for a Freshling.
"My fevorite is three. It is the first prime number, end it is a good number of friends to hev." He nodded, speaking slowly and carefully, but that accept still showed through in some of his words. Ugh.

Oh boy... everyone else's numbers and reasons were really nice... He didn't really have a favorite number, and the one he would've used was taken! Could he reuse it...?
"Um... I like two, too... because two is a good number of people to have a-and there are two people in my family, just me and my dad." He nodded, "also I know my two's times tables...!" There! That was a different reason!

Favorite number? That was a weird fricking question. But Prometheus seemed to be going along with it, and aw, how sweet, he got mentioned in Prometheus's answer! But yeah, anyway, if the guy he looked up to and idolized was cool with it, then sure, Peri would be nice and play along with whatever the teacher was asking them to do. It wasn't any great hardship, after all. "My favorite number is nine," he said plainly. "I don't really have a good--um, reason why, but it is my favorite. I guess because it's nice and round and it can split up all evenly and, um, what's the word? Square? Yeah." He sat down. "It's square."

"Eight," Amory said from somewhere near the right wall of the room. She had positioned herself as far away from Ellis as possible after the meltdown he'd had following health class.
"It's a nice shape, like two zeroes, but when you turn it on its side, it's forever." She meant infinity. Her guardian had told her all about infinity.

"I like a hundred!" Ellis piped. "I can't count to it, but it's the best 'cause it's the biggest number!" He could feel Amory's eyes on him, but he ignored them for now. The imp sat still for one second, two seconds, three seconds before a tiny doubt bloomed in his mind. What if a hundred wasn't the biggest number? He folded his hands. Maybe if he didn't say anything else, no one would notice.

Emmet actually rather liked math. The rules for math were pretty concrete, straight forward. Follow this rule with those numbers and the answer was very nearly assured, aside from mistakes being made. It was the same reason he liked science. It was easy to understand the rhyme and reason behind things. The question of the day was what number did he like best though, not his favorite subjects. The imp absently scratched the buzzed portion of his hair.
"My favorite would be the number three," he said when it came to his turn. At least, it'll do for now. "I was taught it was quicker and easier to count to larger numbers in groups of numbers, like if I wanted to count to thirty, I would only have to count ten groups of three instead of thirty ones." He could multiply those numbers too. His dad had laid out a few different kinds of beans on the counter at home and had Emmet help count them out. It was just a fun little thing to do to help learn numbers. Plus it worked up a bit of an appetite that the three bean soup for dinner that night fixed right up!

While Samira wasn't over fond of this class, the answer to the question given was easy for her to come up with. "I like fives. Counting on them is easy and can be doubled for tens. They're always at hand," She added with a small grin. She held her hands up in front of her, wiggling her fingers to emphasize the point that there was no losing her place there before lowering her hands to her lap. That'd be an okay answer, right? She certainly hoped so.

Caper's eyes went a bit wide, chewing on his lower lip as the circle began to go around. This was such a weird question! He didn't know the answer to this and it wasn't like numbers were pretty or something. He panicked, the Freshling beside him already speaking. "Uhm," the Geist stalled for a moment. "My favorite number is... four." He blinked a few times almost as if he surprised himself.
"It's... half of eight," Caper offered, looking to Amory. "And I know how to spell it. F-O-U-R." He smiled a little, pleased with himself. "So that's why it's my favorite number." The Geist settled back into his chair, pleased he had come up with an answer.

Laviticus didn't really need to think about this question at all. It was a fairly straight forward one, one that they could answer quite simply. "Zero." Laviticus crossed his legs, sitting up a bit taller as he went to finish his thought. "I like zero because it has infinite possibilities."The hybrid nodded, happy with this answer, then went back to the book he had been reading on alchemy from his dad's collection of books. How fascinating.nepsah I swapped in Laviticus instead of Wednesday!

"Fifteen is my favourite number." Joselyn nodded xir head, crossing their arms over their chest, squeezing their plushy tightly. "I was born on the fifteenth, so I'm rather fond of that number. I suppose ... that's .... a little selfish of me. And egotistical ... but ... I like it all the same .. " Joselyn's confidence had flooded away from them as quickly as it had rushed in. They sagged their tiny shoulders and peered up at their teacher shyly. It was so odd being in the Academy finally, though Jose felt quite hindered by how late in life they were joining. They felt way older than some of the kids in their class, and looked it too. They just ... had to remind themselves that nobody but them minded.

An unfamiliar teacher and a pop quiz. Huh boy. Callessa sat down in her seat nonetheless. She didn't bother getting a calculator out--for one thing, her calculator was on her phone. For another, she refused to use a calculator on a quiz. It was sacrilege! No, she would do it the hard way, and she didn't care who objected.
It was perhaps no surprise then when her paper came back the next day--she had passed. Barely. It shouldn't have come as a surprise, rather, but it did. Cal being Cal, she had never expected to fail. She groaned and hid the embarrassing paper in her bag. She was going to get a calculator tomorrow!
