 Several days had passed since that court case. Thanks to Sawyer's brilliance, Cecil was found not guilty, but it wasn't as wonderful as it should've been. In the middle of court the infamous master thief, Sean Tealy, stormed in to testify on his son's behalf, revealing that he not only paid criminals to get caught by Cecil, but for the former Chief of Police to give him the job. At that moment Cecil stopped caring about what the verdict was. His entire life had been a joke. His reason for being a cop was the reason he was a cop. He felt betrayed, and all those glares and whispers he had seen and heard all around him were deserved. Sawyer wanted to celebrate after the trial, but Cecil slipped away. All he wanted to do was go home and think things over. He stopped by the police station and left behind a letter of resignation before going home - Not like he had the job in the first place. So now he was here, laying on his couch and staring at the ceiling. His clothes were lazily put on and his hair was messy. He didn't care how he looked anymore. What was there for someone like him to do? Maybe he should turn himself in for all the crimes he's sure to commit later on."What's the point anymore?"

Sawyer Loupohl ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦Just then, there was a loud thump coming from the door. It was silent for about a minute, then an even louder thump was heard. Before long, a third was heard, then the door burst open with the fourth, a foot having kicked the door down. Sawyer stood in the doorway, unusually dressed down in a red sweater and blue jeans. He stomped into the apartment, then, spying Cecil, walked over to him. " Hey, get yourself dressed right. you gotta come down to the station and sort everything out. We've all been letting you feel sorry for yourself since the trial, but enough is enough." He crossed his arms in irritation. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

 Cecil closed his eyes and rolled over on the couch. "Get a real cop to do it. I quit, remember?" he mumbled."What's the point anymore?"

Sawyer Loupohl ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦" What, you mean that resignation letter?" he asked. " That got tossed into the shredder. No one wants a new police chief. Now get up and get dressed. You've been lazing about for days, now it's time to get back to work." He was about to move back to the door, then paused. " Hey, I said get up. Stop feeling sorry for yourself." He walked over, poking at Cecil's shoulder. " You wanna be a big kid, then act like it. Get dressed and go to work." ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

 Growing irritated, Cecil swatted Sawyer's hand away. "I was never the chief to begin with!" he yelled as he sat up. "You heard it yourself! I only got that job because Sean bribed the chief. Besides, nobody ever wanted me to be chief to begin with." he mumbled the last part while looking away."What's the point anymore?"

Sawyer Loupohl ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦" Who gives a sh-t what they want?" barked back Sawyer. " Look, you might've gotten the job under shady circumstances, but no one would've been able to guess watching you work. You're good at your job, how many times do I have to keep telling you? And if someone says you aren't, then you get up and prove them wrong. By sitting around here, you're doing exactly what all those jerks who don't believe in you want you to do. And as for me?" He gestured to himself with his thumb. " There isn't enough money in the world to convince me to start being friends with you, but I did, and now I want to help you. Get off your a-s, get dressed, and go prove those f-ckers that doubt you wrong. Your dad's a d-ck, but that doesn't make you any less worthy of your position. Now are you going to get dressed, or am I going to have to strip you down myself, because you know I will!" ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

 "It's not that easy!" Cecil yelled back. "How the hell do you know I'm good at my job? I sure as hell don't! All those people I detained were hired actors! All of them! I never caught a real criminal! All I was was a kid playing cop and letting Sean do all the real work! I'm not a cop, and everyone has the right to say what they want about me because it's true!" He stopped for a moment, panting heavily from the outburst. "Don't you get it yet?" he asked in a softer tone. "No matter how hard I worked, I was never a real officer. So please, stop saying things like that and go find someone that can actually help you.""What's the point anymore?"

Sawyer Loupohl ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦Sawyer was fighting the urge to slap the guy across the face. " I know because you can't buy the enthusiasm that I've seen you have for your job." With a grunt, then a sigh, Sawyer gestured to himself. " Those cases i took care of for you? They weren't faked. I know a fake trial from a real one. Every single person I helped you prosecute while I've been here was really guilty, not just some actor. Besides, I wouldn't waste my time with you if I thought you were incompetent. If I wanted you out of the job, I'd have gotten rid of you the second I got here. You know I would've." Unsure of what else to say, Sawyer reached out and wrapped his arms around Cecil's shoulders, hugging him. " I've been all over this country for my cases, had to deal with more police chiefs than can be bought off, but none of them cared about their job like you do. None of them worked half as hard as you do. If I believe in you, then you should too." Pulling away, Sawyer turned and started for the door. " I'm gonna go get the car warmed up. If you aren't downstairs in ten minutes, dressed and pressed, then I'm going to come back up here and dress you myself, got it?" he warned, something soft in his voice before he opened the door and walked out. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

 Cecil looked up at Sawyer as he explained himself. He had spent his life hearing people talk down to him, but here was Sawyer telling him that he was a great cop. Did he really think he deserved to be chief? Cecil was thrown off by the awkward hug, but he didn't push the lawyer away. It was comforting. He wanted to close his eyes and lean into the hug, but Sawyer moved away before he could act. He watched the lawyer walk off and continued staring at the doorway after he left. No one had ever believed in him that much.
Nine minutes passed by the time the car's passenger door opened. Cecil clipped in, dressed in his uniform, and closed the door. "So what's wrong?" he asked as he buckled himself in. He still didn't feel like he should be wearing this uniform, but maybe it would fit easier once they got to the precinct."What's the point anymore?"

Sawyer Loupohl ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦Sawyer leaned back, arms crossed over his chest as the police chief stepped into the car. He adjusted the seat, sitting upright and gesturing to his blinking cell phone on the dashboard. " Cameron tried to take charge of the precinct. Think about that for a minute." He shifted the car into gear, then started to pull away from the parking lot and into traffic. " That reminds me. You're coming to dinner at my place tonight, okay?" He didn't really sound like he was asking, but whatever. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

 Cecil was silent for a moment then sighed and shook his head. All he could picture was Cameron either forcing every officer to go to karaoke or telling them to close off a highway so they can race their cars. He lifted his head when dinner was mentioned. "What? Tonight?""YOU'RE UNDER ARREST!"

 ~~~Cecil opened the door and left it open for Sawyer to come through. He still couldn't believe the lawyer was back from New York just for his sake, whether it was because he thought he was cheating or not. The officer looked over at Sawyer, as if making sure he was in fact real, and smiled when it was confirmed. "I still can't believe you're back." he said while moving to the kitchen to get some drinks out for them both. "Tell me all about New York! You must've been spending so many nights out with your friends, right?" He handed him a beer, smiling sheepishly. "Cameron's been taking your vacation pretty hard. I guess because you were the only one that liked going to karaoke with him.""YOU'RE UNDER ARREST!"
Sawyer Loupohl ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦Sawyer walked inside, locking the door behind him and setting his suitcase down. He walked over to Cecil, taking the beer and sipping once. Moderation, or something like that. " I went out the night after I got back with a couple friends, but that was kind of it. I love New York, but it's kind of dull when I don't have someone with me." He barked a laugh at hearing Cameron's sadness, shaking his head. " That explains why he was so happy to hear from me when I called him. It's nice to see that you weren't taking my absence that hard." ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦
 "Oh no, I was." Cecil corrected. "You're the only one that treats me like my age, it took me a while to get used to people treating me like a kid again." he said while recalling so many people laughing at his attempts to arrest them. "And then there was having to deal with... pleasure... alone and, well..." he drifted off, looking away as a deep blush covered his nervous smile."YOU'RE UNDER ARREST!"
