Ever came in from behind, and he came swinging: blade bared to swing at the first person he saw. He struck, and solidly, but as he pulled back it stuck, and he shuddered in response. He'd expected monsters and somehow, instead, he was facing off other people. Altogether it drew him up short enough for someone to swing back at him with an unusual weapon -- "Why? What's going on?" It was a plaintive question, to all of them, enemies included. HP: 42/50 Charge: 1/3 DMG: 6 Boss HP: 87

That was sort of a tricky question. Zeke wasn't entirely sure how to answer it, and was finding it hard to concentrate with the barrage of attacks coming at him from all angles. He blocked most of them, countering as best as he could given the sheer volume, but a few snuck by to tear at his shield, making him wince as he jerked away from the hits. "We seem to have stumbled onto some sort of weapons ring." Or at least that's what it looked like, as far as Zeke could see. He took a quick side step away from another advancing foe, bringing his axe down in a hard cross swing across the man's chest in an effort to drive him back and away. Tackled to the ground and way out of earshot from Ever and Zeke, Kyle was rendered momentarily incapacitated when he saw nothing but stars accompanied by a ringing sound that resounded within his ears. Holy s**t. He really didn't need this right here and now.
Refusing to stay down and out, the Sun blinked and squinted at where he thought his opponent might be. There was just no way that he was going to be fine with remaining a sitting duck while hoping that the enemy wouldn't try to take advantage of his current condition to do him in.
It was with that thought in mind that he flailed and struck out with his fists, throwing a couple more punches wherever he felt his fists actually connect with something as he scooted back on the ground to try to put some distance between him and the enemy. At least till he eventually recovered his vision somewhat.

"Are they -- are they human?" It was unsure. He met the eyes of someone swinging at him, again, and ducked -- striking back not with his blade, but instead with the flat of his sheath, afraid now that he would do harm to someone possessed, or confused, or otherwise distracted. Non-lethal meant that he'd take more damage, probably, but he didn't want to kill a human being. HP: 34/50 Charge: 2/3 DMG: 12 Boss HP: 61

Ever's question, while valid under normal circumstances, was something Zeke considered somewhat moot now. "Does it matter?" It came out a little more strained that he had meant, grunting as one of the mob rushed him. He had to shove him back before he could continue. "You're more important then they are." Which was true on a number of levels. He'd be damned if he let the Life get himself hurt or killed because he didn't want to fight earnestly against someone that might be bewitched. Besides, they had a job to do, and they couldn't do that if they let themselves get swarmed by the sheer number of bodies fighting against them. Kyle could finally see. Somewhat. Though his visual acuity wasn't entirely back to normal quite yet, there was at least some level of detail right now that allowed him to make out who were his allies and foes. Between Zeke, Ever and himself, three hunters from Deus who were severely outnumbered by what seemed to be a fanatical group of normal humans, they certainly didn't need any friendly fire now to compromise any chance they had at winning this.
Getting up from the ground, he threw out one punch after another at any hostile that got within range, putting his all into it even as he felt fatigue begin to set in.

"But..." He hesitated, and someone swung in -- so Ever reacted spontaneously, swinging out roughly to catch them with his weapon, instead. He hit hard, despite his best intentions, shredding at the poor human's shield and sending them staggering back. His expression was, just faintly, horrified. "But they're human. What are they doing?" But...Zeke growled under his breath, shoving away another of the swarming hoard to give himself room to move. "But nothing." It was exasperated, and maybe a little bit irritated at this point, but to be fair, that wasn't all Ever's fault. The Life had something the Mist did not, empathy, and one day it was going to get him hurt. Zeke refused to let it happen on his watch. Four quick strides was enough to put him at the blonde's side just in time to intercept one of their attackers coming in from the other man's rear. "They're trying kill you. How about you don't let them." Coerced or not, bewitched or not, they were aiming to kill, not to hurt, and they had numbers on their side. Dwindling numbers, at least. Zeke glanced around for their third, and spotted him off to one side, throwing punches left and right as weapon wielding humans closed in on him. It might be time for a chance of tactics. "Kyle, close ranks." If he was closer, than Zeke could watch his back as well. HP: 26 Defending Ever for: 5 CHG: 3/3

"Kyle, close ranks."
The Sun hunter looked around as soon as he managed to convince his assailants with his fists that coming after him was a very very bad idea.
"On it."
Locating both Zeke and Ever easily amidst the thinning crowd, he started to make his way over to join them. They just had to hold out a little longer and outlast their foes so it figured that they ought to stay together so that they could watch each other's backs.

"Just -- try to knock them out -- " He couldn't finish the thought. Even with Zeke protecting his back, someone pursued ruthlessly from the side. He swept the sheath around to smack away a swinging mace, and brought the pommel of his sword up into his attacker's face, hard enough to leave the young woman seeing stars. She clutched at her face and staggered backwards, and Ever looked stricken. Maybe he hadn't quite meant to hit that hard. HP: 23/50 Charge: 3/3 DMG: 9 Boss HP: 25

If he'd had the breath for it, it would have all come rushing out just then in an exasperated growl of frustration. He got it. Okay, not really. But in the abstract, he understood where Ever was coming from. Still, didn't that sort of moral high ground become a lot shakier when the people you trying not to hurt were out for your blood? No? "And if they're not under any kind of coercion?" It was just a touch derisive, but under the circumstances... { End it quickly boil, and there will no longer be a problem.} Lagertha buzzed excitedly through his mind, and he reached for the Fear that she'd collected for him. Blue runes flared brightly, and as soon as Kyle had moved out of the line of fire Zeke let all the pent up energy out with a hefty swing of his axe in a wide arch at the enemies that were closing in around them again. Wind erupted from the weapon, powerful enough to send a large number of the weapon toting humans sailing back to slam into the walls. HP: 26 DMG: 21 CHG: 0/3 BOSS HP: 4

The charged attack that Zeke decided to unleash upon the dwindling numbers of those who still opposed them was a sight to behold indeed and instantly left Kyle envious of what the Mist hunter was able to do with his weapon. Not that he was hoping to pull off something similar with Semaj given how small the shurikens he was stuck with were but one could hope that things wouldn't stay the same forever with the experience that was gained over time.
Stretching out a gloved hand to make a grab for a blade that was being thrusted his way, he clenched his other hand into a fist and swung it in an upward arc till it made contact with his opponent's stomach once. Twice. Only letting go once he was sure that he had successfully neutralised the imminent threat to their lives.

Zeke had a point but -- somehow, still, when Ever's eyes flicked over the very human face of the opponent in front of him, he hesitated. They were human, after all. Coercion was a possibility, or simply brainwashing. Confusion, or perhaps these people thought they were thieves, or trouble, or -- His floundering gave the woman a chance to slash roughly at his abdomen. His response was immediate, a mix of instincts and Amory's goading voice in the back of his head, making him go not for the knockout but for the jugular. The girl fell limp at his feet, and Ever went very still, blinking down at her. He didn't know if she was dead. He kind of didn't want to know. HP: 15/50 Charge: 3/3 DMG: 11 Boss HP: -9

There wasn't going to be much time to wonder about it, at least not over the littered bodies themselves. As the last enemy fell at Ever's feet, Zeke was left the give the large room a final sweep before he was planting a hand on the blonde's hip and promptly steering him away from it all, back towards the stairs they'd come down. He didn't pause to see if Kyle would follow, but he did call over his shoulder to him, beckoning him along. In the corridor again, he drew his phone from the inside pocket of his coat, and quickly thumbed through to a familiar number, then brought the phone up to his ear so he could speak into, tone clipped. "This is Ezekiel, Ever, and Kyle checking in from Vegas, all enemy targets have been neutralized, but there's something here you'll want to see." He waited, clearly listening, before continuing. "Understood. We'll leave it to you guys." The phone was pocketed again, and he curled fingers into Ever's jacket to drag him to a stop. "We're done here. Life and Death hunters will be here in a moment to collect the weapons they were using for research, and to look for anything that might point to who these people were, how they got their hands on the weapons, and what they were planning on doing with them." He was curious, himself, but not enough to linger. No, it was definitely time to go. Lips pressing into a thin line, he drew the pendent out from where he'd stashed it under his shirt, A moment later, after murmuring the name of their island, they were home. This would be a fun mission report to write up.
