Cain. She needed to find him. They were making their way through this the last Nellie remembered so he couldn’t have gone far or, worse, left her behind. The Mist made her way quickly through the dense vegetation, making sure to steer clear of the vines and flowers this time round lest she got tangled up by them again.
There he is!
Having located the Life hunter, she sprinted the last stretch, almost tackling the other trainee as she emerged from the vines with a smile of relief at being finally reunited with him. That was a close call. For a moment there, she almost thought that he had chosen to abandon her and leave her behind.

He had been sitting simply staring out over the large lake with stepping stones covered in algae and moss leading the way to the end or what had looked like the end to another beginning. A fast approaching step had the lifer getting up to feet and giving Nellie a stare of minor annoyance, but there was some relief to eye that the woman was ok. Softening the blonde reached out and pulled a stray vine from dark hair, "what did you do get trapped?" A gruff snort followed the question before he turned to motion to the next obstacle.
"This way...you ready?" Cain wouldn't mid giving her a moment if she needed it. But after that he was once more taking point and starting over an algae stepping stone, managing to trip a touch but catching himself before anything bad happened. "s**t. Be careful Nellie."

Quote: Roll 7-10: Nothing happens. Subtract 1 Stamina. "Sorry... Nellie didn't know what happened back there." The Mist was quick to apologise at the annoyed look that Cain directed her way. She flinched when he stretched a hand out to pull a stray vine from her hair, retreating back into her shell as she gave a wordless nod in response to his question. Hopeless. That was what she was at this socialising thing. Just when she thought that she was making some kind of progress with the Life hunter, she had to botch up something and make him mad as a result of it.
It seemed that she was having better luck than him with the stepping stones. Before she even realised it, she was already ahead of him by a couple of steps before she stopped to inform him of her current status. "Nellie's okie."

Cain noted the flinch and lifted a brow. What the hell was that for? Briefly he wondered if someone at the island was being violent with Nellie. Not for once did he blame his own attitude with the mist. With the nod he shrugged it off and moved on.
Following along after Nellie he caught up with a faint hint of smile as he passed her. "Good. Keep moving like that and we'll get things done in no time." There was a hint of pride to tone as he moved along the stepping stones and from time to time glanced for Nellie.

Quote: Roll 6: -5 HP. The stone you are on begins to sink, and you need to hop several at once instead of just one. Subtract 2 Stamina. It didn't bother Nellie that Cain was now ahead of her. Better slow and steady lest they lost their balance and anything untoward happened to either of them. Deciding that she had rested long enough, the Mist resumed making her way from one stone to another.
One.
Two.
She felt the stone sink beneath her weight and panicked, quickly hopping onto the next ones as she flailed her arms to try to maintain her balance atop them. Potential disaster averted, she stopped to look back at Cain, hopeful that the Life hunter wouldn't be so critical about her earlier lapse in grace. "Just about half way more to go now..." She chimed tentatively, shifting her weight onto one foot upon finding that the other foot was beginning to hurt a little. It was probably a sprain following the earlier incident but it wasn't like she could do anything about it out here till the both of them got back to Deus subsequently.

Cain was moving at a rapidly advancing pace behind Nellie, when he looked up the other was hopping steps rapidly thought not so gracefully. It was when a stone under his own foot started to sink that the Lifer knew why the Mist was moving faster. "s**t move move." He shouted needed to jump the few stones ahead of him before falling into god knows what in the water.
When he was on steadier stones a breath of relief was taken and he spoke a little softer noticing the weight shift. "You ok?" He wasn't concerned nope not him. Well maybe a little considering she was his only other aid in this little adventure.

Quote: Roll 7-10: Nothing happens. Subtract 1 Stamina. He knew. Nellie felt her cheeks go warm at the realisation, her gaze briefly meeting Cain's before quickly averting them on the pretext of focusing her attention on the rocks beneath her feet as she resumed making her way gingerly across the lake.
"Mmm... might have landed wrong on those couple of rocks there." The Mist admitted when she finally stopped to look back at the Life hunter. She might have only a few more rocks to cover till she got to the other side of the lake but she didn't see any point at all in attempting to deny what happened or lie to Cain about her current condition just on the off chance that there was something hostile waiting for them over there.

They were all each other had and while he wanted to move as fast as possible across the lake it would do neither good for one to get hurt. Or rather hurt worse. "It's not a race after all." Cain tried his hand at a joke but it came out rough and awkward. HP:35 Stamina : 28 Steps : 23 / 25

Quote: Roll 2: Although it is a very near miss, a snapping animal's jaws do not, in fact, bite your feet off. Subtract 1 Stamina. "That is true." Nellie stopped to smile at Cain, heartened by the sympathetic look that was given as well as the softened tone of his voice. She did not know what had brought this on but this certainly was a nice change. Perhaps the Life hunter wasn't as bad as he made himself out to be initially.
Taking her own time now, the Mist carefully stepped onto the next rock, closing the distance between her and Cain. Just as she was about to make her way onto the next rock, however, she stopped when she felt something clamp around her already injured leg.
A water snake.
Alarmed, she shrieked as she reflexively lifted her leg to kick a few times in the air to try to get the reptile off. Deciding that hanging onto the trainee's leg was not in its best interest, the snake let go of her leg, slinking away in search of a better prey. But the damage was already done, the huntress' equilibrium atop the rock thrown entirely off as she felt her world tilt, her arms flailing as she tried to grab onto something, anything.

Quote: Roll 7-10: Nothing happens. Subtract 1 Stamina. "Mhm.." Cain responded passively and moved on, at least until he heard the shriek. Quickly turning the snake was spotted and his weapon lifted in what was going to be an attempt to help. But with all Nellies flailing it would be hard not to smack her instead of the snake so, he watched, and tried not to laugh. The water snake decided it wasn't going to work out and jumped mid flail of leg, this, this had the trainee grinning to the other for the comical display. Or it had until Nellie started to wobble and flail again. Cain knew that look and he quickly jumped back a rock and opened his arms, "s**t!" Arms open he attempted to catch her while feet braced himself so they both didn't fall into the water. HP:35 Stamina : 27 Steps : 30 / 25

Quote: Roll 7-10: Nothing happens. Subtract 1 Stamina. It was too late for Nellie.
She saw her world tilt. Her arms flailed yet her fingers grasped nothing that she could use to right her balance or break her fall. The weightlessness set in. With it, the fear of the injury that she was so certain she was going to sustain grew exponentially with each second that passed.
Squeezing her eyes tightly shut, the Mist braced herself for the pain that would soon follow.
It never came.
Surprised yet immensely relieved by this, she opened her eyes and finally understood why.
It was Cain who had caught her in the nick of time. Cain who had prevented her from falling. Cain whose arms were around her.
Staring up at the Life trainee for a couple of seconds that felt like forever, she quickly averted her gaze when she felt the heat rise to her cheeks. "T-T-T-Thank you..."

Quote: I'll let you start round four im unsure of it lol s**t! Nellie was heavier than he had expected, softer, sweet smelling even. The girl fell into his hold and Cain made a soft noise that sounded close to a grunt as he tried to keep both their weights balanced on the rock. The girls eyes had closed and he was thankful considering the position of his face. A second to draw back a little and hands shifted over her hips. When Nellie decided to finally figure out what had happened Cain was staring down at her with as blank as a face as he could manage. At least till she blushed then of course he did in turn. Blue grey eyes peered away and he cleared his throat, "w-whatever. Are you ok? Be more careful stupid." Cain glanced back and started to push her gently forward back onto the rock to balance her out. "You got it now?" He waited to be sure then started back to the other side. Waiting as he cleared the water and turning back to watch her as his pulse raced. The ******** Stamina : 27

Quote: 8. The Eighth Shard: A shard that is always wet. Looking into this shard reveals the ocean vast and deep-- with you inside it. Using this allows you to enter the Shard of an underwater civilization universe. You get 1 IC day in that universe, or at most 7 pages in a thread, whichever comes first. It was cute. The way Cain's cheeks suddenly dusted pink which, strangely enough, made Nellie's heart flutter and the Life trainee's chastising seem not as bad as they were before. She didn't have any time to spare thinking on what this could possibly mean. When Cain moved to help her down onto an adjacent rock, Nellie spread her arms out, shifting her weight gingerly until she eventually found her balance atop the rock.
"Mhm. Yeah. Sorry about that..." Looking up, she flashed him a smile and a thumbs up to indicate that she was going to be alright on her own henceforth, watching him make his way to the other side of the lake before following suit without any further incident this time round. Finally! Never was the Mist ever so glad to find herself on dry land again.
Arriving at a grove that was just down the path leading from the lake, she smiled when she saw the collection of mirror shards that were scattered amongst the leaves and plants. This had to be it. The magical mirror shards that both Cain and herself had come all this way for. "Cain! Look! These must be the magical mirror shards that those hunters were talking about back in the library." She gestured excitedly for the Life hunter to come and join her in the grove.
However, just as she was about to reach for one of the shards that was on the ground, she suddenly felt a chill run down her spine which made her stop to look around her. It felt as if someone or something was here watching them. Was it just her or did Cain sense that too? Before she could ask the other trainee though, she saw the mirror shards start to jitter in place, vines that seemed to have a mind of their own closing in as if to try to trap them within the grove.
"Cain and Nellie need to leave. Now!" Barking out a warning to Cain, Nellie quickly grabbed a mirror shard and started hobbling as quickly as she could towards the nearest opening.

".....Whatever." Cain huffed at the smile and thumbs up, stupid girl, why all that! It wasn't necessary to be so cute. Cain paled when he realized his own thoughts and hastily moved stiffly ahead. As they entered the grove he sensed it, something was watching, it was unnerving and had the Lifer pausing at the entrance as Nellie went ahead.
The shards.
Cain wanted one but by the time he had moved up to where Nellie was vines had shot out. Trying to trap them and meeting the swing of his weapon. "God damn it!" The man growled as blade sliced against a lashing vine, this wasn't good. As soon as he heard the bark a nod was give and feet started to move them.
Nellie wasn't as fast as him but Cain wasn't muscular enough to carry her, which was disappointing in the moment but he did lag behind to try and keep the vines at bay. When Nellie was clear he raced after the other trainee and grinned in his own triumph. "Did you get one?" He asked out of breath as they headed for an exit.

Deciding that she needed to stop for a bit to try to catch her breath some, Nellie did exactly that, turning to smile at Cain as she held up the mirror shard that she had snagged for him to see. "Yes. Did Cain manage to get one too?"
Cupping a hand over her mouth, she lowered her head slightly and coughed a few times from how parched her throat was, taking a few slow breaths as she swallowed some of her own saliva to moisten it. A temporising measure for now. She could get all the water she needed once they get back to Deus.
