Iouri went a bit stiff-shouldered at the hug, being averse to public displays of affection. He hadn't thought he and Winterlynn were to a hugging friendship level, but clearly he was mistaken. "This is incredible," he said, breaking away from her to survey the library shelves. "I - I shouldn't touch them. Not without gloves. The oils in my hands will ruin the pages."

"I'll requisition preservation materials," he said, thinking out loud. "There's no way to preserve all the books here, but I can at least get materials so you can handle them more safely. As long as they're protected from light and humidity they should be fine. It doesn't - it doesn't thaw here, does it? The cold's likely been important in preservation. Keeps the humidity low."

He paused at the end of the row, and then looked back at her. "I still think it's technology very cleverly disguised as magic," he said. "But now we're splitting hairs. This space should function well as a climate-controlled vault provided you don't try to heat it up."

She wasn't the sort to hug to be honest but she was excited and happy for the help, to help with things here and have ways to do what she had no way of doing on her own, due to a lack of a clue among other things. It was just something which had happened. "I've already touched them without gloves, I don't think you could do more. They just need a gentle hand, but the cold has perhaps helped in keeping them from being bits and pieces. I always thought since the cold doesn't exactly help peoples skin much it wouldn't be good either. Neither too hot nor too cold." She'd figured both would be bad for the books to be honest. But the air was at least clean and she knew that was a good thing - right? Plus the lack of holes in the roof so no rain, if they got any, could fall in but certainly no snow would be coming inside.

"Thank you, that would help a great deal. You'll just have to show me what to do with those materials. I don't want to mess anything up." Not with books that couldn't even hope to be replaced. Maybe if they were books she could purchase but if that were the case there would be no reason to preserve them either.

"I don't know. I don't think it does. But it's been so long without people here we don't know. I doubt even my princess has a clue. If could...just at a longer cycle than on Earth. Winter could last years here, or decades, and we wouldn't have a clue. We can't read the books, as I'm sure this isn't the only place with books, in order to know. It makes it all a bit of a guessing game - in some ways."

Laughing she walked by him shaking her head. "I'll let you continue to think that. It is, as you said, splitting hairs. Two different names for the same thing really. I was wondering also what to clean the floor with and other things? Wood, windows, how to bring heat perhaps to the other buildings if not the libraries? There is a lack of outlets, plugs, anything which can be helpful. Light would be nice in here for nighttime. I could wind up arriving here at night while it's day time on earth - again different cycles." Which he would understand easily.

"You know, I do mean it when I say I can bring you here when I come here. You can explore outside, inside, the planet is safe. I mean nothing lives here aside from the plant life...I mean unless I mean snow and air but I don't know. The rules on earth may not apply."An alien planet meant rules could be thrown right out the window or altered. She didn't know really.

Iouri nodded and considered his surroundings again. "No, I'm nearly certain there are no seasons here. Freeze and thaw would have completely destroyed these books. And the buildings are pristine. They'd be more weathered if there were seasons. Unless the building materials are enhanced somehow..." He would have to come back with analytic tools, a microscope or - something.

"Water and white vinegar should work for everything," he said, considering her questions about cleaning. "It won't smell pleasant while it dries, but it's unlikely to do any harm." He took a knee, running a hand along the wooden floor. It was in good condition, as far as he could tell. Better than he would have expected in such an old building. "For light, I recommend camping lanterns - the kind with a crank built in. Certainly no combustable fuels, you'd risk a fire, and the residue would get everywhere. It would be... unpleasant."

He pursed his lips, taking a moment to examine the lamps she had mentioned. Perhaps they ran on some kind of transmitted current, like wireless phone chargers? That told him nothing of where the source might be located - this was an ancient civilization beyond his wildest dreams, after all. "If the library is in such good condition," he said, "perhaps the mechanism that powered it before is as well. If you could locate it, I would hypothesize that it could potentially be reactivated."

Listening to him, to what he was suggesting, she took it all in glad for her memory. She wouldn't forget a thing he said and could get what he suggested. She's bring him back to test things, to examine them, and learn from whatever he discovered. She could pass along some knowledge to Polaris, anything useful or interesting, while working toward helping to rebuild her wonder and perhaps the rest of the city.

"So no seasons then, that helps a bit with knowing what to bring for clothing." Cloaks every time, never would they run into a summer time. At least, like Polaris said, this planet was it's own fridge and good for preserving foods. Had like salted meats and such been the most common thing here? She wished she knew more, could find out more, to understand.

"So long as it won't do any harm. I'll manage with the smell and leave windows open to air it out if I need to." So long as she didn't do any harm to things. The wooden floor that was under the mostly eaten away carpet was in good shape and Iouri confirmed it to her, because so long as the wood didn't look rotten and had no holes it was fine to her. To hear him say it confirmed it for her and had her smiling. "Yeah, I'd like to avoid a fire." She wanted to take very few risks while at the same time bringing things back online, making it easy to read and work here if she chose to.

The lamps perhaps did. They were, like the outside of these buildings, made from metal and smooth with the same sort of appearance of so many modern things found on Earth. That lacking of decoration and sleek form to them they had a dial on them to adjust how bright, or dim, the light would be but there was, as she'd said, no plug or cord. It seemed they might have a hollow stand though where something might have gone if it in fact opened.

"I - hadn't thought of that. I wouldn't know where to look but I'll start looking the next time I come here. If I find anything I'll be sure to let you know." And bring him to see it. Could there be some form of a system here that could just be repowered somehow? "I'd say it's the magic here that's kept everything so nice but I'm unsure. I don't know how the rest of the planet fairs...I've not ventured beyond here." Another idea perhaps for another trip, for her or them both perhaps. He could see more and so could she.

"Maybe a power system not for just here but something further away...to power here and a nearby city." She hadn't seen any but who knows where one might be, there was more places located on this star - she knew it. She just had never been there." She would have to expand her exploration of Polaris to somewhere beyond her wonder. It might help her wonder in the long run and further her plans.

Iouri furrowed his brows. "Wireless electricity is still an emerging technology on Earth," he said, considering the problem before him. "And it's not guaranteed that this civilization - Polarans? Polarians? - would have developed the same methodology. I could research how our version of it works, but I don't know that I would recognize theirs if I saw it."

A circuit was a circuit, was it not?

"It may run on lasers, or microwaves," he said, thinking out loud as he examined the lamp. He didn't want to touch it and risk breaking it, but this was quite a conundrum. "Probably not lasers. Tesla did some interesting work on the subject, but just because this is old... I shouldn't assume that it's primitive. It's actually quite advanced, if they've gone out of their way to make technology look like magic..."

He turned towards her. "Perhaps, with proper documentation, it would be allowable to disassemble one of these lamps," he suggested."

"I can't help there. I'm absolutely clueless on both fronts. I don't know what we used back then and I don't know anything about it back home either. I know Polaris did borrow, or use, technology and other things from other planets. That much I know, so it could be from anywhere else as well." Also meaning they could use various different types, like how you could find wind, water, solar, and other types of power production methods used back home. They could use various kinds and some unknown to them both, kinds that no longer existed. "I could see if Polaris may remember...but it didn't come up when her and I came here." And the topic had come up, briefly, of reestablishing this place, or restoring it to what it once had been or at least something close to that.

"What sort of documentation? I mean...how would it be done? I'll get it done and you can take a few things from here if you'd like. It might help us to know more about the environment and you can learn more as well...even if you can't tell other people or put it into the museum." People wouldn't believe it - snow on a star and everything else.

"Documentation," repeated Iouri, gesturing vaguely. "Archeological paperwork. What the thing is and where I took it from and everything I do to it in the name of science." He was not actually an archaeologist, but he'd taken the intro course once upon a time and was familiar with the correct handling of artifacts - he anticipated needing to do some research and get caught up on the latest methodology.

"I don't want to take anything today," he said, crossing his hands over his chest. "This site is virtually pristine, and I have no way of properly recording what I take. Any examinations I do, I would want to do in situ."

Perhaps that was too much scientific jargon. "Here," he clarified. "On-site. It would be a crime not to follow due process. We're on an alien world, after all! No other scientist has ever had an opportunity like this!"

Nodding her head she smiled lightly. "Of course. Next time you bring what you need and we can set it up for you to take a few things." She would allow that, it would help her possibly in learning more, as well as Polaris, but it would also be something she thought Iouri would enjoy as well.

"No, no other has unless there is a scientist who is a senshi or a knight, I wouldn't know. But besides that - yes. You would be the first to space like this and you certainly are the firs tot this star." And for him to find a star didn't burn, that a person could walk on it and freeze on it must have been a shock to him more so than it had been to her. He knew and understood more than she did so for him to be told that the cold place he had arrived on was in fact the star Polaris must have been a shock and than some.

"As I said, I can come here every two weeks. So whenever you want to come I'll let you know when I can bring us up here and you can explore and do some experiments. This was a library for learning and while it was for law...it was still a place of learning. It's fitting that it be used again for learning." Even if it was of a different nature and done in a different nature. The principle of learning was still the same.

"I'll also talk with Polaris and see if she can bring me here so I can see how far from here other areas are. If she takes me it won't waste my energy and ability to get here for the next two weeks. If it's close we can get elsewhere than as well." As she knew there must be other wonders, other sites, and likely a city of some sort somewhere. How far from here she hadn't a clue though. While she was moving around slowly as she let her eyes wander. There was much to be done and slowly, now knowing a better and safe method, things would be cleaned and kept safe here. She'd restore things, over time, to something close to what they'd once been.

Iouri nodded - he was done telling her that he had absolutely no desire to remove anything from her wonder, as a souvenir or otherwise. Actions would speak louder than words in this case. He would do his work here, even if that meant he had to work slowly. The limitations on travel were inconvenient, but he would live with them and work around them.

"I need to gather some resources," he said, pulling his cell phone out of his pocket. "Catch up on the latest research. Archaeology isn't a specialty of mine, but I have a bachelor's degree in engineering, so if we're looking at technology, perhaps that will be of some use."

He tapped her name into his phone (W-I-N-T-E-R-L-Y-N-N) and held it out to her. "Let me get your number," he said, "And I'll call when I'm ready to come back and begin work."

"Of course, if you need anything and I can help let me know. I do work with gem stones and I don't know if anything I work with can be used to help." She said while taking the offered phone and punching in her digits before hitting save. "That sounds good. I'm glad you can help me." And glad she could show him something like this.

She hadn't been trying to press for him to take anything from here. But rather figured it would be easier and allow him more time to experiment and inspect something, not to mention the lack of power and technology here and access to it being as limited as could be. But that was beside the point - he would be coming back and researching things here and she was happy to bring him here to do so.

"Technology could certainly be some use to us I'm sure." Considering the lack of it and the need for it in some ways, power and such being the top of the list in her mind. Lights would help, she didn't know how day and night cycles worked here or anything else. She was sure it got dark, turned to night, here but when she was clueless.

Iouri took the phone back and put it away. "I'll bring some of those lights I mentioned," he said. If he was going to be working with small parts, then he wanted his workspace to be well lit. "For now, though, I think it might be time to head back." She hadn't offered to show him around any further than this, and his fingers were starting to get a bit frosty.

"Laika is probably wondering where her dinner and walkies are," he added.

"Of course. Next time we can see more, I've yet to explore beyond here as well, so we can see what else is here." She commented while glancing about the room. Yes, it wasn't something she'd done yet but she certainly planned to. Perhaps there would be other interesting things to look at and try and learn about.

"I can bring us right back from here. I can't control where I arrive at." Not really, not yet at least. Would that be possible in the future? Polaris had never been to her wonder until they'd traveled together and she wasn't sure if she could get them here on her own either, rather than someplace else. She'd try next time, see if they couldn't arrive inside perhaps, less walking through the snow would be nice.

"We can eat, if you want to, when we arrive back..." She offered slowly, thinking of the thus far untouched food.

Iouri laughed, looking down at the plastic bag in his hands in surprise. "I'd completely forgotten," he confessed. "Your Wonder is just so lovely. It's very hard to be hungry when one is so taken in by all the sights!" Now that she'd reminded him, however, his stomach was beginning to rumble.

"Of course," he said, extending his free hand towards her. "I take it that we travel back the same way we came?" He would love to study the mechanism, but he couldn't even fathom where to begin or how to collect data on it. The technology was simply far too advanced! Indistinguishable from magic, indeed.

"Thank you for a lovely evening," he said. "I look forward to collaborating with you further."

Let's wrap it up. smile

"I can understand. I know I would have felt the same my first time here. To be honest I still am in awe." And to think there was more to discover at not just her own wonder but elsewhere. It was a lot to think about and take in, she could only imagine for him it was even more. He didn't know about senshi or knights, not really, till now so it had to be even more for him to take in.

"We do indeed, then we can eat." She said giving him a light smile, more than she favored most people with. Most people got the cold shoulder from her and calm, evenly, spoken words. She did typically live up to her name. But here, with Iouri it was different. He could be shown this place and appreciate it and understand, and the awe and wonder he displayed. It was different and it made her smile a bit and warmed her just a touch. To be at her wonder, to be sharing it and working toward helping it.

"I'm glad you enjoyed your evening. I can't wait to come back." With him, or on her own even, but she had enjoyed this and it showed. With a good hold of him she let her eyes drift closed and focused on back home, back on Earth. "I apologize for how jarring teleporting is." She knew how jarring it could be, it was still that way for her as she'd not done this much herself.

When they did arrive back in Destiny City it was far warmer than up there and that alone told her, without having to open her eyes, that they were back and safely. "Lets go eat." Glancing about as she let go of her hold on the other. Already she was looking for a place to sit and eat...even as she powered down, no need to bring attention to them. "Somewhere quite." She said stepping out of the alleyway they'd reappeared in.

(I think we can finish with this. Sorry for the delay.)

Iouri followed her, blinking in the streetlights and shedding his heavy cloak. "Wow," he breathed. "That - that really is something marvelous. Instantaneous space travel to Polaris. Not even Star Trek has that!"

With his now-free hand, he began messing with the plastic bag he'd acquired earlier. "Uh, yes," he agreed, collecting his thoughts. "Let's go."
