Nothing made him believe in the strength of humanity more than watching an exchange like the one that had just taken place in front of him. Though she was able to buy herself, Monica offered to stay in order to help out Maria. If he had to bet on the outcome of this game in the beginning he would have thought that people would have been more selfish, but he had never before seen as many selfless acts as he did in this casino. He watched as Monica went at Maria’s bidding and then returned without a collar. Maybe they would all survive this after all.
Placing his hand over Maria’s he gave her a reassuring nod before getting the game started. “It is your turn to take the prize this time!” As the cards were dealt he picked up his hand and looked them over to see what he had come up with. It was another relatively crappy hand, but he could at least sacrifice the 9 in the hopes of getting something better.

Maria watched Monica go with happiness, smiling brightly after the girl the entire way. This is what she lived for, helping others. When Monica returned, Maria greeted her with warmth and kindness.
"Everything lighter now?" She asked softly, turning to Nate and shifting her hand to hold his and squeeze back in thanks. Then, she grabbed her cards that were dealt.

It was time to see whether sacrificing his 9 would do any good, but to him this game was already lost to him. He rubbed the spot where his collar used to sit, at least HE had nothing to lose. Maybe if he couldn't help anyone else, Monica or Maria could once they were both saved.
It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either, at least it was a better hand than has last one. "Alright ladies." He said with a grin. "Let's get that collar off Maria!"

Maria watched the other two for a long moment, before grabbing the 4 and dropping it in the discard. She had to hold on to those 6s and try to find another pair. So she drew..

He was surprised when he heard that Monica was handing in her cards, she seemed like quite the adept poker player so he was sure she would keep fighting until the bitter end. Of course, she could have had a really great hand without him knowing it. Though that suspicion was shot when she flipped her cards over. She definitely could have gone for a straight, he could have too though.
It was then that he looked to Maria as she continued playing and, spreading his hands in a defeated motion, winked. "I've got nothing, I guess it is all you Maria!"

"With this, I might be able to get myself out of this mess..."
The boss had said he wanted to give her some coins, and since he was over by the turn in, maybe she should just get to it. Looking back to the two, she smiled, "Well, since we all are pretty much free now...want to let someone else take on this table?"
