How frustrating.

Leaning down, the short woman forced out a lunge, her green eyes staring down at the dying grass beneath her feet. She'd failed horribly and what was worse - she'd failed twice in two days now. She couldn't shoot worth a s**t and she'd jeopardized the radio mission, almost endangering her husband in the process.

At least she could do cardio. Sometimes. Ever since Al had recommended she get some exercise, she'd found sanctuary in the fact that it felt good to finally accomplish something right. It hadn't been easy, especially at first, but it was something she was slowly adjusting to, even, dare she say it, was beginning to enjoy. Running had never been her thing, but then again, zombie apocalypses hadn't exactly been her thing either.

Arms swinging, she jogged in place for a moment, making sure to stretch all the muscles she could

She called."Al, you gonna run with me again today, sugar?"

"Yeah," Al grunted. 'No,' was what he was thinking, but also the answer he knew Lola did not want to hear. He was tired and frustrated, still thinking about that message. He had to tell her about it. Maybe after the ******** stupid running.

He gingerly started something that resembled a lunge.

She took off, running around the yard as if she were trying to yet again escape one of the gruesome undead. Her speed wasn't on par with how she'd done the previous day, but then again, she was pretty exhausted as it was from the radio tower mishap.

It had been her fault that a zombie had discovered them. Thankfully, it hadn't noticed Al, allowing him to complete the mission they'd both set out to accomplish. No thanks to her. Never any thanks to her, apparently. She was holding the group back and the thought was infuriating to her - frustrating. Saddening.

Mindful to watch her breathing, she continued jogging enough to keep up with her husband's faster pace. Her expression was grim, matching her feelings, but she uttered nothing to reveal it. All she could do was focus on her breathing and not wince, exacerbating her jaw injury any further.

Al lost himself of the rhythm of his heels pounding against the pavement for a while, getting his frustrations out as best he could. Whenever he started to falter, he grit his teeth, his anger spurring him on to keep going, and he raggedly would pick up the pace. He hated everything about this place. He hated what they'd been reduced to, scrounging for scraps among the ******** rubble like goddamn animals. Like rats.

He ran until his lungs burned, stumbling to a halt as he sucked in air hard. "s**t," He wheezed, putting his hands behind his head to try and open up how much room he had to breathe. "s**t."

He was silent for a long time, trying to catch his breath as he walked. Lola was at his side, not saying a word. Finally, the big man spoke. "I heard somethin' on the radio. Somethin' ********' fishy."

Her jog slowed as she processed his words.

"You...heard something? Like there's someone else out there?"

For a brief instance, there was hope within her, swelling up at the thought of there possibly being a rescue team out there, searching for survivors to pluck up and whisk away. "What did it say?"

"Yeah." His brows furrowed, trying to recall. "...Something about... don't trust 'them', whoever the ******** 'they' are. And that we've got it wrong? About how you get infected. It's not the zombies, it's the... 'thorns'?" He shook his head, forcing a smile. "Bunch of crazy bullshit."

After a moment though, his smile faded. It was...troubling, to say the least. Did he believe it? He didn't know. Because what the ******** were thorns? Just--there wasn't enough information for him to say, one way or another. Al grunted, feeling a headache coming on.

Or maybe it was a damn ear infection.

The afternoon sun was setting and Lola was once again out in the Yard, stretching and pulling on her muscles to get them limber and ready for their daily jogging. It had become an unexpected routine for the couple, as neither of them liked to run much, pre-zombie apocalypse, but it had become a daily thing for the two of them, nevertheless.

She was finding that she enjoyed the time - sure, she could snuggle against or bother Al pretty much any other time of the day, but this way they were doing something together, they were working out and making themselves stronger together - they were preparing together and it didn't directly involve zombies. Bonus points.

Pulling her arm back, she pushed her elbow with her other hand, then changed up to the other. Breathing in through the nose, out through the mouth. She couldn't recall everything she had seen on all those old VHS workout tapes she'd convinced Al she'd needed (and ended up using for like...a week), but she knew a few pointers for warming up. Lunges, jumping jacks, toe touches, the works. After a few more bounces in place, she was ready.

Well, physically ready, at least. Mentally and emotionally, she was still pretty ********. What was the really big bother today, though, was what her husband had mentioned during their run the previous day. He'd managed to succeed in the radio tower objective (despite her utter, utter failure of a rookie mistake) and in doing so, heard a snippet of some very alarming message that she, for one, could not figure out the meaning of.

"Who do you think they were talking about - they?" Her head turned towards big Al - big, sweet, adoring Al, who she knew she could depend on for reassurance. She'd kept her questions to herself, mulling over her thoughts until this afternoon. She hadn't wanted to worry him with her, well, worrying, but her curiosity was getting the better of her to a point where she couldn't stop wondering about the radio transmission. Who was it that they couldn't trust? Who was the person on the other end of the radio line?

He'd fallen into a mood lately, brooding and withdrawing into himself. Partially, it was due to the pain in his ears. The left one was certainly infected now, which made chewing and general life as a whole one giant b***h. Christ,he just hated not knowing. He'd made his whole life on conning others, on being smarter than the rest.

He knew Lola was worried, and so he was doing his best not to let too much of his emotions shine through. He warmed up without really thinking about it,going through the motions.

Lola needed a weapon,he considered after a moment. Her fists weren't going to do s**t if another undying showed up...

He was feeling like s**t. Okay, she got the picture.

Hushing up with her questions, she continued to run alongside him until she felt the familiar feeling of soreness and exhaustion setting in. They'd run a fair distance for the day, maybe even a little more than usual.

She gave her sweetheart a peck on his grizzled looking cheek before dismissing herself from his presence. He seemed to desire to be alone and she wasn't about to add any more stress to their current predicament.

The day was surprisingly beautiful.

That is, ignoring all the chaos and debris that littered the entire city surrounding the prison grounds. Ignoring that, of course, and it was a beautiful day. The sky was blue, there wasn't a cloud in the sky and while the birds had long since flown away and were not there to tweet their happy songs, the day was quiet and peaceful without their melody.

It was about midday and Lola was feeling a bit energetic, so what better way than to do a little bit more running? She knew that soon enough, they'd be adventuring out into the Big Bad World once again, so she wanted to ensure that she'd be in tip-top shape for when she assisted at Al's side. Or anyone's side, really, but she not so secretly hoped it would end up being Al. She knew him better than anyone else and he knew her better than anyone else...it just made sense, frankly.

Stretch her arms and giving them a generous swing, she began to do her lunges, already feeling quite limber.

After a few more lunges, she took off, running the perimeter of the Yard like there was no tomorrow. She passed by several people staring (hey, haven't they ever seen a fat chick run? Sheesh!) but ignored them as she continued to focus on her breathing and speed.

The beautiful day had inspired an extra burst of speed within her and she happily ran with it (no pun intended...or was it?), one hand moving to playfully brush against the iron gate that held them both prisoners and protected from the outside world.

What she didn't notice, however, was the nice little hole that either some bored inmate or overachieving gopher had begun to dig. As her worn out shoe made contact with the hole, it sent her sailing, face first into the ground with a THUD.

Her ankle hurt - oh it hurt bad. Probably a ********. So much for being a beautiful day!
