He listened quietly to her story without comment, Fritz reclining against the bench with an arm resting across the back of it, one leg crossed loosely over the other. He did not want to interrupt her, because that would have been rude - but he also just simply wanted to hear what she had to say. It was not as though changing sides was an easy decision to make, after all; people did not change their viewpoints simply on a whim.

And Ellie - she had changed for love. It was such a simple concept, yet one that Fritz could not help but privately wonder about; how it seemed to just come to people, but not everyone. How it seemed to shift hearts and minds towards different viewpoints, and yet he, Fritz, had never had that at all. Not as Celsus, and not as Fritz. He would have died for Tolliver, he knew that - would have done anything for him, but that was different. They were brothers, not lovers; family did not equate to the same thing.

His lips quirked ever so slightly at the mention of himself, Fritz smiling a little.

"I know Camelot," he said. "We've met once or twice, just briefly."

Fingertips traced in slow, careful lines over the hem of her skirt where it lay over her thighs. She kept her gaze down, as the warmth of a blush colored her cheeks, lips drawn in a stubborn little smile. Love sick. She had it bad, and she knew it.

"I wanted him dead, once upon a time. I worked very hard in my attempts to see that a reality." It was something she felt guilt over now, a deep well of regret. "He wanted to save me, always. It's ironic I think, that he's Chaonis' father."

Ironic, but fortunate. It meant they had a powerful ally. "In the end, I suppose he did. I found the answer in mirror space. A shard, it called to me. I felt it pulse in my core when I touched it. He cleansed the chaos from it, and when I woke up, I was what I am now." She didn't add that it had been painful, or that she'd been unconscious for an alarming amount of time after.

Thin shoulders came up in a small shrug, and she looked up at him again finally, crossing her ankles under the bench. "That's the simplest version." The most direct version. There was plenty she ha left out, but those details had little to do with her purification.

He watched her curiously, wondering, not for the first time, how it must feel to think of someone they way that Ellie was clearly thinking of her Chaonis. Her expression said it all - there was no need to even question the depth of her feelings for him, and yet...

And yet the pang of loneliness that Fritz tried so hard to tamper down was rising within him, followed closely by the sense of unworthiness that he could not ever have such a thing. There was no one in his life that would ever be willing to put up with what he had to carry, and he would not have asked anyone to share the burdens, anyway.

He dragged himself back to attention.

"So Camelot has a son who stole your heart, did he?" said Fritz lightly, though it was said with a touch of gentleness, because it was obviously a rough time in her life. He was reclining back against the bench with his hands folded in his lap, fingers latticed together in relaxation, although he'd been listening intently. "I've never heard of being cleansed, as you put it, in such a way. That's...quite interesting."

It was said, not with disinterest, but with quiet contemplation, Fritz humming a bit.

"But," he said, turning his head to look at her. "A happy ending, wasn't it?"

Her lips twitched, smile brightening into something pleased. "I stole his as well." He'd been so rough around the edges when she met him, so carefree and dangerous. He'd taken his position as a senshi seriously, but only just, and everything about chaos and order had been black and white. It had for her as well, but it was funny how affection and feelings could help to change a person's perceptions and understanding.

She nodded to his question, running the hem of her skirt idly between fingers and thumbs. A habitual gesture that she seldom realized she was doing. "We're working towards our 'happily Ever After', but it still not an easy path. Our civilian lives have come together, but there are many dangers that face us each night."

The freckle kissed skin along the bridge of her nose pinched as she pulled a face, then continued. "Well, mostly one danger." Navi looked up then to meet his eyes, brows arched curiously. "Have you encounter the general known as Painite?"

"I'm sure you did," said Fritz with a laugh. "You're certainly beautiful and charming enough to have whisked away the poor man's heart and soul, and I'm delighted to hear that you've found someone like that in your life. It's a bright spot of light in a colorless world, or something to that effect."

He flashed her a smile, the compliments genuine. After all, he'd told her something similar, back when they had first met - someone so beautiful shouldn't be so angry.

"Lives are not so easily changed," said Fritz, and for a moment there was something darker on his face, something less refined, less joyful. It flickered across his vision and then dissipated as he replaced it, rather quickly, with his usual bravado and easygoing nature, his expression shifting. He turned and raised an eyebrow.

"A name I haven't heard in quite some time," he said lightly. "But yes, I have, though it's been a few years at least."

Elle could feel her cheeks warming in the wake of his compliments, and she had to look away, a hand coming up to tuck curls back behind the curve of an ear. She remembered as well. It had been a simple comment, could have been easily shrugged off as nothing, but it had stuck with her, and it had been a part of what had set her on the path to the white moon.

The knights, who she had dedicated so much time and energy into eliminating, had wanted nothing more than to see her happy. To see her smile. To help her. They weren't bad, not a waste. No more than the Dark Mirror Court was evil.

"Ah, be thankful you haven't had the misfortune of attracting her attention." The hand that had lifted lingered at the side of her neck, the edge of a finger making an unconscious glide across the pink scar that marked the side of her throat. "We have. That is to say, Camelot has, and Chaonis." Her voice was softer now, and attention seemed to be held by a space of pavement a few inches from the toes of her shoes.

"She hates them, because they fight her, they stop her from preying on the weak, and have both nearly killed her." Elle took a breath in, letting it out slowly. "She's evil. She attacks them through the ones they love." Hazel eyes flickered up, very briefly, to glance at Frtiz' face before dropping again. "She'll kill me if she gets the chance. She's tried before. I was her prisoner for a week, once, only a few months back."

He had never been vicious - at least, not outwardly, not to the ones that he had tried to save. And none of them were actually saved as a result of his own actions; he as not nearly that good to believe such a thing. Ellie had chosen her path on her own regard, he had merely given her a chance to believe that not all Order was bad.

Or had he? He could hardly even do that much.

A slight laugh escaped Fritz as he stared out in front of him, his eyes tracing the lines of a nearby tree. "Oh, I have," he said lightly. "I have had the misfortune of attracting Painite's attention, ad though it has been a long time, I remember it quite vividly."

He did not see her look at him, nor did he turn to look at her. Fritz shifted slightly on the bench, feeling a strange urge to run away, tamping down on it desperately.

"Don't give her a chance," he said gently. "You are so much stronger than a general who cannot see past her own nose, after all."

Fritz had more faith in her abilities than Navi had in herself, though not without reason. It had taken a lot of effort on the general's part to beat the confidence out of the newly purified senshi, and she had done her vicious job well.

Navi's response was a small, sheepish sounding laugh, and she turned her away from him, looking back down the path they'd walked along to reach the bench they were now siting on. "I'm not."

She needed others to protect her, to keep her safe. She needed to stay close to home, so there was less chance of being whisked away into danger again.

"You are," said Fritz, who was still suppressing the very desperate urge to bury himself away, to hide in the ground where no one would be able to take note of his failures at all. He did not have the strength of character to even do that, did he?

"You took a step here, didn't you?" he asked, the wind ruffling his hair about his shoulders, cool and breezy.

"How many could say that they had the strength to do such a thing? To leave behind all that they had had in favor of something else? You speak like it was not an easy task, and I would think it terribly painful to have to start a new life away from the familiarity of before, so you are already farther than Painite will ever be."

She still couldn't believe him, because she knew otherwise. Painite terrified her, past the point of common sense, and edging into phobia. On a rational level she knew they should have been more evenly matched, but it just didn't feel that way anymore.

"I'm no stranger to having to start over." A shift in topic, perhaps. She'd steer the conversation towards less heavy things if he'd let her. Let it the rest of their evening pass more comfortably, companionably. Long enough for the petite girl to loose track of time.

In the end she'd walk away with a new friend, and a new ally. Someone she knew she'd be able to count on, in uniform or out of it.
