"You're no more a pet than he is," she corrected him gently, indicating the cat in her arms with a soft stroke between his ears. "You're much more than that, both of you."

She had the strong desire to run after him so she could throw her arms around his shoulders in a big hug, but she couldn't do that with Haddy in her arms, and she wasn't going to set the poor thing down either. He was scared enough as it is.

"I'll see you around," She called after him, waving as she took a few backwards steps before turning on her heel and heading home.
