"I suppose they'll just tell us to call the emergency number, I guess. But it's nice to think they might teach us things like, um, keeping arms and legs up to stop bleeding, or when to use a tourniquet or something." Tourniquets were something that bothered Zalir--zey'd heard so much about them, most of it bad. So they weren't often used, and yet they were? Somehow they were important, even though you weren't supposed to use one? Zey wished someone would explain in more detail. Perhaps zey should check out a book on first aid. Ah, but no, zey wanted to get through zeir current stack of books first...
Strangely, Aella didn't seem to be too upset by zeir poor choice of words (or tone). Zalir smiled with relief--and encouragement. It seemed that Aella regretted her words as much as zey had! Zey smiled. It would be nice to have another friend... "It's okay. I forgive you. It's, um, not a lot to forgive, really." Zey picked up zeir books and hugged them to zeir chest now that the checking-out process was done.
So that was it--not one, but two books to read and peruse. So...what now? "Um..." zey said. Zey wanted to chat longer, but zey felt as if they had run out of conversation topics. What now? "Um, I'll try to finish the books as quickly as possible. Um, probably by the end of the week, homework permitting. Um... Do you want to...maybe...continue our discussion after we've both read Aurelio's latest? And Chalven's first, of course." Zey blushed. Zey didn't want an exact repeat of today's conversation. The vitriol hadn't been fun. But the getting to talk to a fellow bibliophile who'd read the same things? Now that was fun! They wanted to do it again sometime--when there was more to discuss.

Aella nodded. "Probably some of that, and when to do or not do things...of course it's mostly not do things. Isn't that strange? They give you a long list of things not to do that paramedics will almost immediately come in and do. I understand they're trained, but I'm sure sometimes they do more harm than good too." she shrugged. "Tricky business really."
"If you say so." she said accepting their apology. "Just...not polite to pick a fight with someone you just met. I was out of line." she held up her hands. "We don't have to talk about it anymore!" she said quickly. She certainly didn't want to start another fight about who was more sorry, or who was more out of line.
Aella blinked. Someone wanted to spend time with her? That was...different. "Um...yeah. I'd really like too." she said with a small smile. "It was...fun. Might be nice to get together and talk about the things we read." was she being to vague? Did they not want to discuss anything other than alchemy books? That was fine of course, but if they wanted talk about other things too..."I'd love too." she finished simply.

"Yes. I think I remember hearing once that if someone does the Heimlich maneuver on you, you're supposed to go the hospital or something. I think your ribs break, or possibly there's damage to your esophagus. It would be nice to know what it is." Zey couldn't really imagine hurting someone's ribcage like that. Zey would definitely do whatever needed to be done to help someone, but zey didn't think that zey could really exert enough force to hurt someone quite that badly. But if the teachers said so...
Zalir was glad when Aella dropped the subject. Yes, good. Zey didn't really want to get into a discussion on etiquette. That was a battle zey knew zey would lose, and it was best not to get involved in arguments like that. Zey were just as happy to shoulder half of the blame while Aella shouldered the other half--that way, they were both equally inconvenienced. It was better that way.
Aella seemed startled by Zalir's suggestion, but it put a warm glow in Zalir's heart when she said yes. And the way she'd said it...well, it gave Zalir ideas. "We don't just have to talk about alchemy," zey said. "We could talk--and read--about history, or about psychology or something. I'd, um...I'd like to have a, a f-friend I could talk to about stuff like that. Maybe we could keep introducing each other to new books. Um."
It was time to go. The level of awkward in the room was reaching critical levels. "It was nice to meet you, Aella," zey said finally. "Really nice. It's nice to have friends in the library."Lady Argentum Draconis I think that's good, don't you?
