Dagaz flared to life under the hands of the clone who called itself Taym. Sitting back down, he calmly waited for the pain. It would be excruciating but in the end he would climb out from the rubble, whole and untouched. He would continue on until he could find her and free her from the influence of this place, of these hunters.

The clone had plans and he had strength, a focus and purpose so much greater than the Other could ever manage. Even more, he had the confidence that meant none of that went to waste.

On this occasion, that confidence proved to be misplaced.

Half a world away, Obadiah Thompson died, and with the mantle of mortality was placed on those clones who wore his face and attributes.

Eyes widening, the clone threw himself toward the door, tearing at it as the rune of Dagaz brightened behind him. In the six other cells, runes flared in each and all the clones, so certain of their ability to survive what they cause, came to the same understanding: they were ********. Thurisaz. Dagaz.

Together, with enough focus, enough pain and energy, a single man could create an explosion. Seven men working in tandem could, effectively, destroy the Life Labs.

The basement levels took the brunt of the explosions, the rest of the building shaking violently and then...

Everything starts to collapse inward.

----

Dr. Stephen recovers quickly from the sudden shaking and tries to escape toward the door. H still does nothing, still focuses, sweat beading down his brow.

The explosion below almost knocked him completely off balance, but the doctor's office door checked his fall. A great metal groan reverberated through the foundation and up his legs, impeding his recovery. Jack's impulse was to chase Dr. Stephen, but he had to remind himself of priorities.

Chel might have been close to the explosion. s**t.

Desummoning, he looked to Dr. H who was still concentrating on some fixed point as he had for some time now. Either he was suffering an ill-timed deer in the headlights moment, or--no. Not staring. Focusing. Jack's eyes widened in belated realization and gave the man another few precious seconds, using that time to force the door open and grasp at some of the older documents he'd scanned earlier, before speaking up.

"You need to get out of here now, sir."

Finally, the doctor's gaze slid up to meet Jack's, his gaze was not one of warmth or hope or even the slightest of good intention. "This is my home, Jack."

And there it was. William, so wonderfully reliable when it came to running toward the danger. The proximity brought with it a measure of relief and suddenly the doctor's expression eased.

baneful
As he neared the building, weapon drawn, Rep would experience an excruciating tearing sensation as the metal spines wrapped around Tracey pulled off of the massive axe. Marie leaving him was just as painful as her arrival, but this would only last several awful moments until something cool and soothing spread along the axe, filling in the torn gaps with smooth blue crystals. The spread and spread until Tracey was no longer and axe, but a shining blue sword.

The whip appeared in the doctor's hand, a deadly length of shining spines and for a moment the doctor had to close his eyes. "This is my family, Jack."

He began to walk away, toward the center of destruction, "My legacy."

This part of the way through the Life Building was familiar to Abbi, she worked in the Infirmary often and had just been there maybe an hour before.
The sudden shaking, the strange momentary upheaval of the floor, all the screaming and crashing sounds were totally not normal.

The two Moons had hardly made it out of the Infirmary before the explosion hit, and all Abbi could think of it at first was how similarly, yet much worse, it felt to an earthquake. She'd been young and visiting family in San Francisco (had it been for a wedding? Or graduation?) and--
And the memory doesn't matter because the disorientation of the floor moving makes her lose her balance. She hits the tile and tries to roll, but collides with the wall instead.
She thinks 'wipeout', but instead says Jack's name, at first softly, and then a little louder, and then she shouts as loud as she can, "JACK!".

They're in the hallway, Dr. H's door isn't that far away, she's almost there and she has to help, no matter what, she promised him she would.

He stuffed more and more into his backpack, made in anticipation of staying to watch over Chel and now his only means of holding as much of the doctor's research as he could; by simple association, it had to be important. When he turned, he saw Dr. H's dark gaze and held it half out of characteristic spite and half out of interest, watched it transform with relief as his weapon returned to him as Jack had suspected. But had he merely delayed the lead's death, then?

A loud, high pitched voice broke through the sounds of the building's death.

Jack ripped his gaze of of Dr. H and saw Abbi and Edith making their way towards them. Hastily zipping his stuffed backpack, he shouldered it as he jogged to meet them. "Dr. Stephen is one of his," he said quickly, gesturing where he last saw the traitor break towards. "He attempted to kill Dr. H in her place, but he's escaping now." The urgency and lingering impulse to attack colored his words easily enough. Get him. Make something of this worth it.

More specifically to Abbi, he went on, "I'm getting Chel," backstepping already past them, driven to keep moving even though he had more to say. There was a fear and hyper fueled determination in his eyes the Moon had never seen before. Alone, he was demanding silently, not willing at all to risk throwing her further into the wreckage, not willing at all to let anyone stop him or reason against it. "I'll let you know." I'm sorry she pulled you into this. I'm sorry I'm always leaving you behind.

Face set, Jack turned away and blurred down the hall as another ominous groan vibrated through the floor. He had done what he could for others; now it was time to help himself.

There are people inside the building who need help, who need protection. There is a traitor who may have helped cause this attempting to run free of his crimes. Whatever she decides, Abbi is forced to pick her path now.
