quote="Jewel of Antares"] Vlad had been searching night and day for his missing child, his and Sal's only son. Kaiden was his firstborn, and heir to his entire kingdom and one of the most important people in his life. He had failed as a father to protect his child, failed as a husband to keep his family safe and protected. Of course, he had been doing everything to try and keep it together in front of Sal, and if he was doing official business. However, at night he hunted for any information on his child and who had taken him. Kai remained at the bottom of the tank his tail curled around himself to keep from being viewed fully. He heard that Alvin was going to his home, but since the other didn't really know who he was, or who his parents were, there really was no way he could get the information to him. Not only that, but Alvin didn't even know that he was there. The hybrid thought to reach out with his mind, but he couldn't do that just then, not with the other's father there.

Alfred (Alvin) MathisSal was worried. About both Vlad and Kai. He had no idea what happened to their son, but watching Vlad slowly go mad was an awful experience. He felt like he should just lay in bed and waste away, but he couldn't leave his vampire to suffer this alone. And, what of Kai? Even though Sal knew he took after Vlad in many ways, he couldn't help but worry. Was Kai scared? Was he hurt? Was he even alive? Sal made sure to keep these thoughts hidden from Vlad, but he knew. Vlad always knew. The merman hoped they found Kai soon. Before Vlad went on a rampage or Kai was hurt. Or, worse. To say Alvin was excited would be an understatement. He was....Well, he felt ethereal. Was that a feeling? Well, it was now. This was the first time his father was letting him out. It would probably be the last, too, so he had to make the most of it. Laying in bed, Alvin looked at the signed permission slip for a bit before setting it on the bedside table. All he had to do was hand it in tomorrow and he was good to go! First thing I'm doing when we're free is going to the library. There's got to be so much history just sitting there. I have to make the most of this trip....It won't happen again.

Once he was sure Alvin was alone Kai wanted to speak with him. It appeared the other had left to pack much to the displeasure of Derrick. Well of course Derrick wouldn't be happy, his son was going to where there was a pissed off vampire. Granted Alvin didn't know that. Still, he had to warn the other about his parents. Closing his eyes he let out a sigh and sent a mental knock to Alvin once he found the right mind. Alvin? Oh please let this actually work! Erendale is dangerous right now. There is a vampire that lives there and will most likely to after you. You need to be careful. If he comes after you, mention my name. Kaiden. Kai was having a hard time with this link and tried to keep it open long enough to at least 'hear' a reply. Since he rarely used this ability it wasn't as strong as Sal's.

Alfred (Alvin) MathisAlvin sat up, startled, by the odd voice. He didn't realize it was in his head just yet, so he stayed on the bed and looked around. Once he did realize where it was coming from, Alvin grew confused. What the hell? Telepathy? What was going on? "What the....Why would an angry vampire come after me? Who are you?" The voice was...familiar. Kind of. He couldn't recall the name of who it belonged to, though. "But, I'll be careful, I guess. If you really felt the need to warn me, I can't really ignore the warning."

As Alvin asked his questions Kai thought about how to best respond. He didn't want to say that his father had a merman mix in his study. He couldn't risk getting the other killed. Something important to the vampire was bought by your family. He wants it back. I- he was cut off as he lost the link. Kai hoped that he had gotten enough information across to the other. At least Alvin seemed like he would be careful while in town. Now all he could do was hope that things didn't result in death.

Alfred (Alvin) MathisSomething important? If he wanted to keep it so much, why did he sell it? Or, was it stolen and sold on the black market or something? Alvin's head suddenly shot with pain, but it subsided quickly. What the heck? What's going on?...Are you still there? Silence. Alvin rubbed his head and looked around. Should he not go to Erendale then? Shaking his head, he looked at the permission slip. No, he was going. He didn't care how dangerous it would be. He wouldn't get another chance.

Kaiden cursed as he lost the connection and tried to re-establish it. When he couldn't he slammed his fist on the bottom of the tank and mentally cursed not practicing his telepathy like his parents suggested. Now was the time he could really use that ability. Closing his eyes Kaiden felt his stomach growl and wondered when he would get to eat. He didn't remember eating anything before he was kidnapped and he was hungry. He felt certain he would be fed but had anyone thought about it?

Derrick MathisDerrick wasn't too thrilled about letting Alvin go to Erendale. But, he had signed the slip. Now all he could do was hope he'd be fine. He asked a maid to have dinner prepared and brought to him and Alvin before he went back in his office. Looked at Kaiden, Derrick realized he had to keep him fed, too. It would be a shame to let such a treasure wilt away. Kaiden suddenly hit the tank and Derrick raised an eyebrow. "Calm down. Maybe I'll let you out for awhile if you behave. While Alfred is away from the mansion, of course. Now, what would you like to eat. I'm assuming blood, but your diet is...odd."

Kai looked at Derrick as the man spoke. He disliked his captor, but there really was nothing he could do about it at the moment. Letting out a sigh he lowered his fist. "Yea right, you wouldn't let me out even on a chain." He growled at the other flicking his silver tail in the other's direction. "If you cant provide the right meal for your captive, then you shouldn't have them at all." Of course he put a hand on his belly as it growled again. "Blood, land food, I can eat both. I would prefer to eat in human form however, less chance of getting water in the meal that way." He was of course attempting to see just what he could ask for. His tank was pretty bare as well, but he figured that wouldn't change. He missed the plants he and Sal grew in the gardens.

Derrick MathisDerrick tilted his head a bit. "That's not true. I just need to trust you won't run off. That's the only reason I let Alfred attend an actual school. You'll find I can be a very giving collector, as long as my treasures obey me." Kaiden answered his question, and Derrick frowned. "What do you think the drain on the tank floor is for? You don't honestly think I'd be happy seeing only one side of my second greatest treasure, do you?"

That made Kai look shocked. He considered his son a treasure as well? What kind of sick man was this? Kaiden looked at the drain in the tank and shuddered. They would make him stay in a glass tank in his human form as well?! That was terrible and he sank lower into the tank. The fact that the man was 'giving' bothered him as well. "Cant you see your son is miserable? He wants friends, but it is clear he doenst have any because you keep everyone away." The merman-vampire mix looked away. Actually, Alvin and he had similar stories. He didn't have any friends either.

Derrick MathisDerrick frowned. "He can be miserable. As long as he's safe. If you knew the people of this town, you'd know why I keep everyone away from him. They're all manipulative gold diggers. Every last one of them. And, Alfred is blissfully unaware of how tough the world is. As long as there's a past to study, he's happy to ignore everything." He was willing to kill him, but Derrick knew Alfred. He knew what sort of person he was, and he knew he was always easily tricked. Even before Derrick started his...hobby. The only one who would hurt Alfred was him, and he was hoping he would never have to. "Arabor isn't like Erendale. It was built from a kill or be killed community, and it's still the natural law of things. Alfred wouldnt survive a day as a normal kid here. Now, will you just tell me what you want so I can have it prepared?"

Kai looked a bit confused. Yes he had heard about how this town was created in such a manner, but his own home had a similar history. Well, expect that his father was one of the founding princes. As he sat in his tank he looked away. "Anything is fine." Kai was suddenly not in the mood to eat anything. He would as he knew he needed his strength, but he probably wouldn't taste it. With a small flick of his tail he watched some of the water swirl around him. He played with one of the silver bands on his arm before he looked to the back of the tank. He was a bit lonely just then but could he really miss things he didn't actually have?

Alfred (Alvin) MathisDuring the two day wait, Alvin made sure he packed everything he would need. Clothes, his own shampoo and conditioner, a toothbrush and paste....Not to mention a couple of notebooks to jot down everything he learned. He was careful not to pack too much. Finally, after what seemed like forever, the bus pulled up in front of the mansion and Alvin rushed out of his room. He ran right into his father, and he looked up sheepishly. "Slow down. You're going to have a stroke or something." "Sorry, Dad....I'm just excited." Derrick ruffled his hair and Alvin blushed a bit as he fixed it. "Do you have your phone?" "Of course. You wouldn't let me go if I didn't. I'm going to be late. I'll be home in a few days." Alvin waved to his father before rushing downstairsdownstairs. "Warren will drive you home if you want to come back sooner! And, I'll be calling you to make sure you're okay!" Alvin rolled his eyes before running to the bus and got on, taking his seat. The class was a small one, so he was able to have a seat to himself. Thank the heavens. Reaching Erendale, Alvin was woken up by one of the supervisors. Sitting up, he rubbed his eyes before grabbing his things. Geez. A ten hour drive. Bus seats weren't that comfortable. He was definitely riding in Warren's car when they left. Getting off the bus, he shielded his eyes. Bright. "Alright, listen up! We're not doing any class tours today. You're free to explore the town, but keep me or Mr. Aarons informed so we don't break out the search party. Got it? Alvin....If you do decide to leave the library, let us know."

Kai remained in the tank for the two days that Alvin was getting ready for the trip. He had been unable to connect with the highschooler again and had given up trying to do so. Now he could only hope that Alvin was safe on the trip of his. Back in Erendale, Vlad instantly perked up. A class from Arabor had just arrived, and Vlad was aware that there was a collector in that town, but didn't think anyone had heard of Kaiden there. He was aware that the son of the collector was in a fieldtrip to discover the town history and decided to invite this teen to his castle. How could any history nerd turn down a private tour of a castle? Let alone an exclusive that no one had been allowed on.
