The lime eyes followed her as she stood and began planting the seed for their exit, trying his best not to seem too interested, so that it seemed more unexpected than it truly was when she finally nominated him for their 'cigarette run.'

"I guess so," he muttered with a shrug, feigning disinterest - not a terribly hard emotion to summon. He raised his glass to his lips and knocked back the remainder of the whiskey, grimacing openly as he sucked a long breath between his teeth. A sip of whiskey was one thing, but draining a cup full was a completely different story. He stood with a mere nod in the direction of their imploring coworkers and followed Lumiere out of the door.

"Good job, Illuminati," the whiskey grimace vanished with a slightly approving smile as he caught up to her side. His long fingers shoved deep into his front pockets as he looked around them, gathering his bearings with whiskey settling in his system. Though he had built up a tolerance over the years, he was still a fairly thin man and didn't need terribly much to begin feeling the affects. After a second of thought, he nodded his head to the sidewalk to their right.

"It's about a ten minute walk that way, I think. I'd rather not drive with the cops always hanging about the streets down here. They're like ******** sharks." He had never been caught and didn't plan to be - not only would he blow over the legal limit, at his age it would have been a big deal. Cops were always such a pain in the a**.

He offered his arm, almost as an afterthought, as he turned in that direction and began walking. She looked cold. He could help with that until they got to Player One.

"You sure you don't want to stay with the rest of them, though? You don't have to leave on my accord."

"Living up to my name, I hope." Lumiere grinned, with a smugness that came with hard-earned success. As the cold surrounded them, Levi taking a moment to recover, she made sure to move from the open view of the entrance. Her fingers worked instinctively and quickly, pulling her up-do down, ocean-blue hair pooling around her shoulders. She ran her hand through her hair, attaining that socially messy look, grateful for the increase of warmth.

One brow raised quite skeptically, noting Levi's confidence of the area. "I'm curious now, how do you know that?" Levi was standing on the fine line of being impressive.. or suspicious. For the sake of their friendship, Lumiere was tempted to settle on the positive side. As Levi turned to walk, she turned, to quickly to catch up. When Levi offered his arm, she least espected that to happen. She tipped her head, eyes widening slightly. Then it turned to an amused smile. She didn't want to miss the timing, so Lumiere slipped her manicured hand into the crook of Levi's arm. She would never turn down an attractive heater source. Tonight was turning out to be more surprising than expected. As she matched his pace and brushed her body against his side a bit closer, she was surprised to hear his next line.

She worded it carefully, but her tone was flippant. "Now why would I want to stay when I've been promised a hot date and games?" Her lavender eyes remained on the sidewalk ahead, tucking a lock behind her ear. "I can pick and choose my dates, even if it is with an entire culture of soulless entertainment and credit-cardless machines." That counted everything she knew about the arcade. It was fairly embarassing that the card reader wasn't actually a credit card one. Not that Lumiere would tell Levi that. Even she had her moments, as elegantly as she tried to go through life.

Undeniably, Levi's eyes lingered at the pool of hair as it tumbled down around her shoulders, watching with interest as it settled around her face like a waterfall. Straddling the edge of a buzz, his observations were less sly, less likely to be hidden at the last moment, mostly because his ability to care about what others thought was somewhat dampened. She was pretty and he wanted to stare - that was simply that. It wasn't his fault she made her living on being as beautiful as possible.

"The walk, or the cops?" He asked with a sly smirk, once they were on their way in the direction of the bar, huddled together as much as he allowed. "I've got a pretty damn good sense of direction, a little from this and a little from that." He shrugged his shoulders at the end of the sentence, brushing off what 'this and that' amounted to, and causing his arm to rub into hers with the motion. If he noticed, he ignored it. "The cops, well, that's mostly common sense. I've known too many idiots that get caught driving home after clubbing because they don't think about their arrangements afterward. They don't want to leave their car, or they think it won't happen to them, blah blah blah." His gaze flickered sideways to her with a small snort through his nose, dismissing the excuses as idiocy. "This city makes people reckless, and stupid."

He would know, having seen all sides of it by now. Super heroes often forgot that they could be victims to civilian problems, too. Levi certainly did not. But her response made him laugh and he looked away, staring off into the distance as an excuse, looking for the first sign of the neon game controller that hung above the bar door. "Careful what you wish for, Lumi, you might hate me before the night is through."

Before long the sign was visible, flashing in bright green and blue, drawing in the nerds like flies. He steered her in that direction with ease and pushed the door open, like he was walking in to a place as familiar as his own home. Knowing Levi, he probably spent about as much time here. The bartender on duty, surrounded by a half-circle bar top glowing in soft blue, raised his hand in greeting. Though he appeared to be having a jovial conversation with a pair of bar guests, he excused himself as Levi approached with his date on his arm.

"Hey Levi, credits for two tonight?" If it was a surprise to see the lanky man with a girl on his arm, the bartender gave no sign of it. That meant either that he had brought girls before, or that the bartender was simply well versed in not blowing someone's cover.

"Yes, and two sonics." As the bartender nodded and wandered off to take care of it all, Levi turned back to the blunette with a smile. He was eager to get drunk and play games, but he held his excitement down beneath his cool exterior, per usual.

"What do you want to try first? We can play Mario Kart, or some old school arcade games, or just about anything else. Ladies choice." Around them the 'bar' seemed as endless as a casino, taking up two full floors that had been sectioned off by gaming system and filled with an array of couches, chairs and even giant bean bags.

Lumiere might have noticed Levi's gaze but it wasn't the time to flirt. Especially not in front of a bar or with alcoholic influence, she had a little more class than that. People littered the streets, accompanied by traffic and noise, being in the busy clubbing district. She listened to Levi speak, silently reflecting that this was sometimes more than he spoke in a busy week. Even as he berated the general population, she speculated that there was some stories behind Levi's delinquent-like past. She followed him, stepping delicately, as Levi opened the door. As the bartender spoke, Lumiere couldn't stop her traveling eyes from surveying the area. It was extensive, almost like an elaborate high end fitness center-- but for gamers. It certainly was a gamer's paradise, bar and all. If Levi could drink here, now she could see why he wouldn't want to drink in other bars.

Lumiere carefully disengaged herself from Levi, her arm slipping under his neatly. Part of it was that she wanted to explore this gaming center, the other part was that she wasn't simple any female to hang as arm candy. She wasn't jealous, she just had pride befitting a model. She couldn't help but tilt her head, at the bar and the surrounding area. This was as far as her range of shocked emotions could go, fairly confident that she could adapt herself to any environment. Except for this one. She had her doubts.

"I .. " She paused, looking around. "..Mario Kart?" She paused, looking at the assortment of controllers. "If you could just .. explain why there are so much controllers everywhere," There were wheels, there were black controllers, there were white rectanglar ones. She couldn't say she wasn't excited, yet no so much as Levi. Even as he clamped down his excitement, it was clear that this was his element. The bartender knowing your name was a large given, as well.

Although it was certainly in Levi's nature to look down on other people for being less informed than he was in certain areas, her question made him laugh gently instead. It was perhaps just that he was in his element and, thus, less uncomfortable or perhaps the bit of alcohol streaming through his veins. Whatever the cause, it made his features soften and for once, gave him the appearance of the young twenty something he truly was.

"Don't hurt your noggin' thinking about it, Illuminati."

The bartender returned with their drinks and he grabbed both, obviously intending to carry hers for her. He made a small gesture toward a staircase in the corner and turned in that direction, not waiting to see if she caught on. The social games were all upstairs, since they attracted the bigger groups.

It was some time later when Levi dropped his controller on the couch at his side with a groan and rubbed two fingers into his eyelids. On the screen rainbow road was glimmering and taunting and at his side sat an empty glass and another half full, suggesting that he was well on his way to drunk for being such a light weight.

"Man, ******** this game."

The tone was pure irritation but, for what it was worth, he hadn't directed any of it at Lumi herself. Instead he stretched back on the plush couch in front of the overly-large TV and looked at her screen instead, apparently abandoning his place out of complete frustration and more interested in what she was capable of doing instead.

Cynicism always made one look years, if not decades, older sometimes. Even Lumiere couldn't say she wasn't shocked, when Levi actually seemed to relax his aloof manner, into something relatable to the younger gamer he seemed to be. Maybe that was his gaming face instead of his working face, she speculated, wondering why someone so young seemed to hold life so heavily.

She followed him, after sending a bright smile towards the bartender. Even as her hand slid up the stair railings, she couldn't hide the fascination in her eyes as she scanned the bar slash arcade, from a higher view point. Even Lumiere seemed to have lost a touch of her usual sophistication, as she saw a world she hardly recognized. She made herself comfortable on the plush couch next to levi, amused at informal lack of rules around here. She didn't need to watch her posture, or play the social etiquette game here. People hardly looked - well, at least they didn't seem to, as immersed in the virtual worlds as they were.

So she sat, with her legs folded together, leaning forward with an intense stare of concentration. Her glass, and a complimentary winning shot, that another gamer had purchased for her, were empty. She didn't ask for a refill, her attention focused on the game entirely. She just finished a round of Mario Kart on an easier field - the rainbow road was far too much for her, considering she did not 'drift' well. But before this, she was like a curious cat, pouncing from game to game. It was easy to see that the taiko drum game, or the musical rhythm ones, such as Technika and DDR were her favorite. But after the physical games exhausted her, she had relaxed into Mario Kart. Levi's irritated words sounded as Lumiere neared the finish line, already deciding to take a break after this round. Levi simply beat her to it.

Unfortunately, now her hands were just a little sore. After scoring a relatively high second place, in the round of CPUs, she put the controller down on the trophy screen. Shaking her wrist, rotating it in exercise motions, she leaned back. She didn't know how much time passed but she knew it had passed delightfully.

"You're a sore loser," she peeked at his screen, hiding her smile. All that falling was amusing, especially on Rainbow Road. "I know why you skip now, it's a fun away to avoid everyone. " She teased Levi, resting the controller on the armchair. It seemed that the alcohol helped her to relax, without her usual precision or formality. It was hard to stay impeccable in this kind of atmosphere, her hair swept back, from raking her frustrated hand through it. She couldn't help but notice his irritation and tiredness. Which was understandable, since it was late.

"Are you a sleepy drunk?"

"Of course I am," he replied quickly, flashing her a smile that held some of its usual smarm, but seemed altogether charming regardless, "I hardly ever lose."

He stretched a hand out to take his half-full drink, something bright green and fragrant, then tipped it back into his mouth with the ease of a practiced drinker. It was deposited loudly on the tray, not unintentionally, so that the bartender would hear it. Whether or not he intended to order another round depended entirely upon Lumi, but he'd like the option to be there waiting for him when he was ready to decide.

"Sleepy?" He laughed a little and shrugged the question off, though he couldn't say that he wasn't extremely comfortable, cradled in what basically amounted to little more than a couch-sized bean bag with a little foam for structure. It was meant to be comfortable while still fitting a handful of people. Lovesacs, he though they were called.

It was a second before he realized his mind was wandering and he pulled his focus back to her, glancing over the tussled locks of her hair and the way she seemed, for the first time, as if she didn't care what people thought of her. It was an attractive difference.

"Not really, but I'm comfortable, so that contributes to it. I don't like awkward socializing at bars and I don't actually.. like people very much. This place has my type of atmosphere, so I guess I'm just at home." It was one of the most honest things he'd ever said and he wasn't certain if it was just because he enjoyed her company or if it was the alcohol talking. Perhaps both.

"Why, are you a sleep drunk?" he teased, reaching out to tug lightly on a strand of her hair.

Who knew competitive gamers could be so charming? Lumiere definitely didn't, as she grinned, glancing back at his game. Now that her attention wasn't completely absorbed into the virtual world anymore, she took a moment to secure herself back to reality. As Levi answered, she stacked her cups on top of the tray, leaning back into the lovesacs, as she finished. She was expecting a smartass answer, pleasant surprised that it wasn't one. She let his honesty, a dangerous emotion that seemed to be taking charge of the moment, sit in the air for a pensive second. His expression, from what she could read, was truthful, without a hint of his usual tough front.

"At home .. that's an enviable place to be." She couldn't hide the fleeting wistful note, that entered her tone as quickly as it left. She was pulled out of the moment, into a more comfortable one, as she leaned in, tipping her head a fraction closer with the tug. This, she could deal a litter better with. Or not. Even she couldn't stop the thrumming pulse, that quickened just a bit. Her gaze was drawn to Levi, managing a casual tone.

"I might be - but we're not going to find that out tonight, or are we?"

The rhetoric question was a challenge - one Lumiere regretted a little upon saying, realizing the alcohol had affected her a bit more than she thought. She let her gaze slide down to the flashing notification of her phone. It was likely a text as to where the cigarettes were, or a warning from her manager to go home soon. "I should be heading out," she voiced softly, reluctant to draw away - yet relieved, because she had been a bit too forward.

The forwardness of her question made Levi realize two things - that Lumiere had a bit too much to drink for her normal amount of composure to remain intact and that he, as well, had consumed enough that he'd begun to tease her like he might someone.. lesser. The thought disturbed him enough that he sat up as soon as she suggested she should leave, not because he didn't like the idea of spending a night with her, but because he knew he would treat her differently afterwards. Conscience be damned, but he did like her. It was a small bit of chivalry on his part that she probably wouldn't understand.

"Come on then, Illuminati," he offered her a smarmy grin as he stood and held one hand out to her, intent to get her up and onto her feet. With his other he flipped open a trusty cab service app on his phone, tapping through a few screens with practiced ease.

"I'll call a cab for you and we can wait outside together. They don't take very long around here."

As soon as he had finished with his phone, he tucked it back into his pocket, waiting for her to get her wits about her. Though he was dissecting his own behavior thoroughly, he was hoping that the pretty blunette bounced back from her sudden realization at how forward she'd been. He didn't want to injure her pride through what must seem like rejection, but it was all new territory for him. He didn't typically try to spare anyone's feelings.

Perhaps it was best that Levi seemed to bypass her uncharacteristic behavior - even she was surprised. Usually she went through classier methods, but a candle lit dinner and chauffeured ride home wasn't quite Levi's style. Perhaps the drinks had been a bit much, compared to her usual glass of wine. She made a mental note for future reference, vexed by her behavior. Taking Levi's hand in a much more impartial manner, she didn't let her fingers mingle in the solid warmth, enveloped in his palm. Her touch was brief, straightening her cardigan and hair with a few careful adjustments. She stood with steadier feet, pulling out her wallet to tuck several bills under the drink. She did say it was on her, and Lumiere always kept her promises. The bartender took note of it, nodding with a friendly wave.

She reminded herself that grace was her motto, and she didn't settle for any lesser emotion. Tempted as she was to just end it on this note, she forced herself to think sensibly. He had already walked her here, several more minutes of waiting for a cab couldn't hurt her. It wouldn't. A light-hearted tone, her slightly shaky fingers tucked in her cardigan pockets. A model smile - her only weapon in this instance. She was surprised at how easy it was to pull out, despite that being her career.

"The bars are closing soon, I'm sure they're everywhere." She lightly conversed, moving forward to walk down the stairs. That should be enough. As the cool night air flew by the automatic doors, one manicured hand automatically reached for the side of her head, to hold her flying hair down. She let her thoughts drift into silence, glad for the cool air, despite the chill. Her eyes busily scanned the street, as she stood, by instinct, next to a well-lit lamp pole.

The change in her demeanor was almost immediate and not for the first time, Levi found himself irritated at his own conduct. He should have known better, considering what she did for a living. He had to assume it wasn't very often that a model of Lumiere's caliber was rejected, especially under the circumstances.

With his mind flipping through the catalog of possibilities, he fell into step behind her and watched the rather mechanical way she went about doing everything. He'd seen it before, when she got angry or upset at work and knew that her composure was more important than an outburst. It pulled his lips into a thin line and the bright eyes settled on the spot between her shoulder blades, as if it might reveal to him the best way to earn back her favor. He didn't really want Lumiere to be mad at him but there was no way to fix things without breaking them a bit more, first.

The door swung shut behind him as he followed her out to the street. He paused, just for a moment, outside of the glow of the streetlamps, watching the way it showered her in its artificial light. She was beautiful, even then, and he couldn't deny that he had to be a special kind of fool.

"Hey," he began, softly, to get her attention as he crossed the few paces that separated them. One hand reached out to take hers, pulling it free of her cardigan and using the effort to turn her around to face him. The next motions flew by like a blur as his free hand slipped up to cup the base of her skull gently and his towering frame leaned down, casting her in shadows as he did, so that he could press one, deep kiss against her lips. The sweet taste of her drinks lingered there, mixed with something he knew must have been Lumiere herself. It lingered, more gentle than he really wanted to be, before he pulled away and stared down at her eyes. Just the effort of doing so was more difficult than he wanted to admit to, especially as a man not used to self restraint.

"Don't mistake me, Lumiere," his words were little more than a whisper and the hand that had cupped her skull shifted beneath her chin, so that he could stroke his thumb out across her cheek in what he hoped was a comforting gesture, "I'm trying to be a gentleman because in reality, I'm a terrible guy." There was a sort of amused smile on his lips as he said it, like a man committed to knowing that he was his own enemy right then. He was standing in the way of something he wanted, on purpose. "But don't think I hold back because I don't want you."

She wasn't mad - she was vexed, annoyed, and peeved, but not mad. She kept her eyes pinned on everywhere but Levi, so she assumed that he had remained as cavalier as he had moments before. She was ready to keep her dismissive silence, eyelids lowered, keeping her lilac eyes from glancing back. It wasn't his fault, it was for the best. She was determined not to look at him, hoping that her emotions might cool off, never guessing what Levi might do next.

She heard many tones from him, his sarcasm, his complaints, his victory cheers - but never such a soft tone, that almost effortlessly reached through her calculated defenses. Even though she didn't want it to, she knew that a simple romantic gesture, his grip on her hand, would leave that searing temptation that had been between them all night. Nothing existed in the next moment, overtaken by the sensation of his lips on hers. She didn't resist, her senses drowning, captivated by the bittersweet taste. She leaned into his kiss, deepening it, his actions lingering just long enough to assure herself that she didn't miss a single detail. Her lilac eyes met his emerald ones, knowing that searching through those was futile. Only Levi could could earn back her favor, in the worst way.

"A gentleman? A gentleman wouldn't tempt, he'd know he should leave it alone." Her voice was a husky mix of her resignation, her pleasure, but most of all, the wistfulness of wanting something they both couldn't have. She couldn't help it, her hand tracing the side of Levi's handsome features. She couldn't help leaning closer in, until their breathing mixed in the cold air. She wanted to follow his throat, to the curve of his shoulder bone, that he unbuttoned earlier. But before she was tempted to pull him into another kiss, or do something else, her fingers stopped at his cheek, curving gently into her palm, fingers digging in. She forced herself to uncurl it, to pull Levi's hand away, before she could lean once more against his touch. He shouldn't be comforting, not if it wasn't going to go any farther. She didn't think of the way they looked, standing in his half embrace, the mess his fingers left in her long hair or her reddened lips. He was sincerely trying and even Lumiere couldn't fault him for that. She just wished, for the first time, that something was different.

".. and they say girls are complicated." She couldn't help but respond to Levi's amusement with irony, stepping away from Levi's lanky frame. She didn't want to, but she wasn't sure if she could stay in such close proximity, especially if she wanted to end it gracefully from her side. She wanted him, but neither of them could change anything. Even though she wanted to tell him that she desired him too, where would that go? Probably to the same place, alone, but far worse than her feminine pride could handle. Nor could she be on hold for him, especially if nothing was promised. For both of them, she forced the next words out, with similar difficulty, that Levi had, trying to be gentle. ".. At least.. thank you for the great night out."

There she was, the charming girl that had undeniably wormed her way into his heart. Just watching the emotion come back to her face made him smile, even as he struggled to remember why he wasn't allowing himself to indulge any more than he had in the first place. He wanted to steal a second kiss, a dozen more. He wanted to wrap his arms around her body and crush her into him. He simply wanted and he needed, desperately, for his mind to win that war.

What he couldn't do was admit that he cared about her because in the end, it would only make things so much worse. He couldn't commit to a single girl not because he was so inclined to use them and toss them away - that, in itself, was actually a symptom of the true problem. He couldn't commit because there was an undeniable dark cloud constantly looming over him, threatening him, his way of life, and everything that he loved. To want anyone in his life as a permanent fixture was dooming them to misery. The Negaverse was something he couldn't write off - he knew, because he'd tried. His soul belong to war.

"I can't help it, I don't like to see you pout."

The tease was ended with a smile, warm and charming on a face that was generally so stoic. His green eyes search her lilac ones for the last time, diving into the emotions she was barely containing, remembering the way they looked on her face. Then he leaned in and pressed one final, soft kiss against the curve of her cheek bone, lingering but chaste. The hand on her face dropped away and he stepped back, letting the chill of the night air rush in to the space that he had occupied only moments before.

"Don't mention it, Illuminati." The use of her full name had been crushed once again under playful joke as he tried to reign himself back into the playful co-worker that he had been before he admitted anything real to her. It would never be quite the same, he knew, but he couldn't let her go on thinking that her beauty was forgettable. He took a few steps backward along the sidewalk as the lights of the cab flashed around the corner.

"I'll see you at work, right?"

Despite the intention to remain sophisticated and nonchalant, she couldn't help but smile as Levi's knack for charming his way out of the blame. Just as he had a knack for getting a girl like her into this situation. His situation, however, was far more complicated than Lumiere could guess. Nether could he guess her's. Later on, when she emptied out the henshin pen she forgot she held in her purse - she would be reminded that her life couldn't be so easily given to any sort of commitment either.

She was off her game, normally she would have been the one giving the chaste cheek kiss. Without a doubt, Lumiere could guess this was his final romantic gesture. She stepped back, as Levi stepped back, as both of them retreated back to their worlds once more. She would have to pull back, into the affable model he worked with. That was much easier said than done, considering what happened tonight. It was a disappointing relief that their next project wasn't for several weeks, since this one had been wrapped up. She could only hope it was eventful, to keep her busy.

"Certainly," She waved to the cab, opening the door to settle inside of it. The lights flashed brightly as it signaled it's merge into traffic, Lumiere's expression never breaking the composure she barely managed to pull back together.Only when they were a certain distance, out of sight, did Lumiere let out a shaky sigh. She didn't call out his name in the farewell, because she was afraid that her voice might crack. He was terrible to the end, naturally, calling her Illuminati. She let her head rest against the window, fingers brushing over her lips.

Well, at least it would be a nice memory.
