Laurel thought a moment as he was suddenly confronted with more questions and pursed his lips. He thought he'd answered that already? Did he forget? He took a breath, huffed, and shrugged.
"They can't move, they're just plushies!" He exclaimed. "Vesperkittens move and eat and stuff, but plushies can't do that because they're made of fabric and stuffing! I can imagine that I can feed a plushie, but it won't happen, because they can't do it."
He slid back in his desk, now frustrated and confused. Didn't teachers know this stuff already? It didn't seem right that his teacher didn't understand what he meant.

Okay, this was kind of interesting. Ganymede actually paid attention to this lesson for once. Science wasn't really their thing, but dead versus alive could be useful for later. The interesting part ended as soon as the worksheet was handed out, though. Didn't the teacher just go over this? Annoyed, they quickly circled the answers and scribbled a bit while the others answered...
"Alive stuff has to eat or it'll die. And alive stuff has to breathe." Satisfied with their answer - given without even looking up from their doodle on their worksheet - they went back to not paying attention to the rest of their classmates...

Morin tapped his pencil lightly on the desk. It was enough to rest his hand from the note taking, but not loud enough to annoy the person next to him. Science wasn’t his strong suit; after all he was planning on a Music career. However one of his very good friends loved science, and he liked paying attention to the lectures if only so he could carry on a conversation with her.
However as assignments went, research wasn’t terrible. In fact it was kind of fun to research facts. Now the question was, what period did Morin want to research. He overheard some of the other students trying to pick theirs and looked down at the list again.
Silurian: 1) The Silurian period, marks wide and rapid spread of jawless and bony fish. It was also the time period in which both the first known freshwater fish appeared and the first appearance of jawed fish 2) During the Silurian period Coral reefs made their first appearances 3) The first clear evidence of life on land is found
Morin finished and placed the pencil on top of the paper before looking it over again. The teacher wanted three facts right? seeing that everything was in order, Morin quickly placed it on the teachers desk and decided to wait out in the hall for Meris.

Science class was the best class ever! Well, there would be better classes later, of course, but for Zalir, science was the best course zey had ever taken at the Academy. As a junior, zey expected things to get a little tougher--juniors when zey was a freshling had always been complaining about extra homework, extra studying, always taking up lots of room and moaning all the time about how much work they had to do, but that had just hyped Zalir up all the more for this class.
Zey listened to the lecture, taking detailed notes and drawing diagrams of every piece of equipment that Pr. Tan described. Zey tried not to be disappointed. After all the hype, this felt like a letdown. How to read a graduated cylinder? Seriously? Instead, zey tried to remind zemself that this was a good thing. This meant that they got to actually start using all this equipment this year! Well, it was a start. Zalir filled out the quiz and was among the first students to turn it in.

Meris looked over at his friend and noticed Morin resting his hand by doing that pencil tapping thing he often did. The litch was way too serious about taking notes, tending to try to get every word that he could instead of actual short hand notes. Meris supposed in the long run it did help Morin study better later, after all that way he didn’t have to worry about trying to remember what short hand system he was going for that week.
Still it was time to shift his attention back to the assignment at hand. Meris didn’t mind science even though it was obvious that he was aiming for a more music oriented future. Still if music didn’t work out it was always nice to have skills to fall back on.
Permian Period 1) The Permian Period was the last period of the Paleozoic Era 2) The Permian period had the largest mass extinction recorded in the history of life on Earth, causing the extinction of most of the marine invertebrates of the time. 3) The first fossils of Modern conifers appear
There that should about do it. Seeing as Morin had finished up just before him he turned his assignment in with the teacher and went to go join his best friend in the hall.

Sparrow had arrived a bit early to class and set out her supplies, most of which were adorned with some cute flourish or feline. Not everybody seemed too excited about science, but why? Didn't the idea of mixing chemicals and watching reactions seem like a fun time? She looked between the other students and decided that maybe science wasn't for anyone.
She was attentive as she could be throughout the lecture. It seemed as if they took a little too long on each object, but maybe it would be especially useful later. She took notes with a invariably terrible but recognizable drawing of the piece of equipment and doodled filigree in the margins of her paper to avoid falling asleep and accepted the quiz without fear. She kicked her feet as she completed it and smiled as she handed it to the teacher. "Thank you!"
It never hurt to be polite.

Oh boy. Geology. Not necessarily Micah's favorite subject. Her notes were mostly bullet-points with an occasional illustration to stave off the boredom. Luckily there was more to learn about an era than just its rocks. As it turned out it had very little at all to do with rocks, except that they had... different... rocks. She was suddenly inspired to draw something prehistoric. Hmm. Well, as soon as he got out of class.
Micah handed in her paper with a fleeting smile, hoping she hadn't mixed anything up while drawing little protozoa. The sheet was titled with a harsh, blocky decorative font.
- THE CAMBRIAN ERA -
1 ) 540 to 490 million years ago, followed by a large extinction event 2 ) The great majority of living things were in the ocean 3 ) "Cambrian Explosion" was the most intense burst of evolution known (most phylum emerged)

Ustule stared at the teacher as he made a diagram on the board. The room smelled funny. It smelled inorganic, like rock. There were a lot of other children in here with her, and she didn't know any of them. They raised their hands--were they supposed to do that?--and answered questions, with varying degrees of confidence. They sounded so strange, and honestly, Ustule couldn't understand half of what they were saying. She vaguely understood the question; instead of listening to what the other students were saying, she thought long and hard for an answer, one that made sense. It was a complicated question. Finally, she raised her hand.
"If it subsists," she said softly in her deeply-accented voice, "eet weell ect towards eets own existence." She waited for the teacher's response.

Dax stared for a moment at the little blonde Litch girl. He'd gotten the note to expect her this morning, and a brief summation of her circumstances, but she wasn't what he'd expected. Her answer for one was...well it wasn't what he expected out of most small children.
"Ah...umm...yes, a 'survival instinct' would indicate that something is alive. A...very...good answer...Ustule. Thank you, you can sit down now." he turned and wrote her answer on the board, although an involuntary shiver went up his back. Must be a draft, he thought before getting another answer.

Enoukn had to think about this for a minute, because a lot of living things could be mistaken for not-living things if you weren't paying attention. He focused on his thoughts for a moment before raising his hand and adding. "Living things can make more living things! Like plants make more plants, right? But not-living things can't make more of themselves..." At least, so he thought. Rocks couldn't make more rocks right? Still, if not-living things could do that, then that could be really scary. You could at least reason with living things... He hugged his plush to him and thought that it would be much better if it were a living thing sometimes. It was a comforting toy... But still not as good as a real friend.

Ustule sat down and made a tiny smile of relief. Huh. That...actually wasn't so bad. Apparently she'd gotten the answer right!
Heck, the student next to her--the little Baphomet with the beautiful green goat toy--made a pretty good answer, too! She gave him one of her tiny smiles. She wished she'd thought of that...

A yawn escaped from his mouth as the lecture on all this equipment was being told to all them, Lazarus trying to pay attention so he could understand what these items actually were. Sure he could ignore it all and just go for it, but that probably wasn't safe. Despite his undisciplined nature at time, he knew that safety in a science classroom was important. He had heard horror stories of what could happen if a nightmare wasn't careful!
When the test finally was passed out, he looked at the questions and almost chuckled out loud to himself. This wasn't too hard, especially since he had been trying to listen. Sure a few of them might of been confusing if he hadn't of been paying attention, but they all made sense when you thought about it, especially if you imagined out what the item's description was in your mind.

Andromeda listened closely as Mr. Dax explained the terrarium. They were very intrigued by it... water in a box? The plants were okay in there?? This was nothing they'd ever heard of before... and when he said they'd be making their own, they were immediately excited.
They picked out a nice bowl like jar, and a cork, then got to work putting everything in place.. once done, they held it up for Mr. Dax to see.

"Did I do it right?? Can I keep it!??" Oooh they really wanted to keep it in their room...

Dax moved around the room, helping out students with their projects. He made it to the table that Andromeda was sitting and nodded. "That's very good Andromeda." he smiled at them. "Of course you can. Just set it in a window and it'll do just fine."
