"That's sweet." Cassie said, smiling quaintly at Gale's back. She was a sucker for romance, especially ones with a grump and and sweetheart. Cassie didn't know if Gale was necessarily a grump, but he was stoic - and that was still cute.
Her face fell, though, when Gale told her that assignments weren't clear. It wasn't as if she expected handouts or ease - the division meeting had made that abundantly clear - but surely they couldn't expect just a small trainee to have the puzzle, riddle solving skills of James Bond, Batman, AND Sherlock Holmes.
Or maybe she was putting too much pressure on herself? "Erm. How much are we -- what is the expectation of a trainee? How do I go on missions and develop projects if there's a bunch of red tape that I can't cut through? Should I just shadow people? I--"
She was hyperventilating again, just starting to tremor into a panic attack. Quit your whining. Cassie gasps, shaking her head. "S-sorry, sorry. I'm just -- this is so much to take in."

He may have flushed a little at the compliment, but he appreciated it nonetheless, even if Gale's face didn't entirely register it. He was nothing if not serious - a little too serious - but it didn't meant that he wasn't grateful when someone found him or his relationship to be a positive thing.
Gale had kept walking, pushing open another door, but he slowed his steps as he heard her myriad of questions tumbling out one right after the other. And when he turned around and caught the panicked expression on her face, the gasps in her throat, he was positively alarmed.
"Hey now," he said, reaching towards her to grasp her shoulders, Gale leaning to give her a little shake. "Don't, er...don't over think things." Pot calling the kettle black. He was practically a licensed professional at over thinking everything by now. "Listen, just, er..."
He glanced around. There was an uncomfortable looking plastic chair just down the hall, and Gale awkwardly tried to direct Cassie into it so that she could sit.
"Just...take a minute and breathe," he told her.

Raggedly, Cassie nodded and sat herself to said chair, balled fists pressed into her knees and taking deep, if not shuddering, breaths.
"I--I'm sorry, sir. This is just so much and, well-- I just don't know if I'm cut out for this." She nearly whispered the last part, both shame and fear crossing her t's and dotting her i's. Cassandra didn't want to be a big cry baby, not on one of her first days, and she certainly didn't want to come off as weak; what a reputation that would be, with a boss like theirs.
Another deep breath, and she eventually stopped shaking. The panic had passed, but her knuckles were still white. "S-sorry, again. I think I'll be fine. This is just-- I didn't expect so much, so quickly."
