Amanda listened to Kaosu patiently, nodding at his words. "That's not your fault, Kaosu. It'd understandable that you'd be a little-" she cut herself off, stumbling a bit in her stride and staring at him with wide eyes. "Wait, a G-Goddess?! You mother's a Goddess?!" her voice cracked at the end in her shock.
'Kaosu's a demigod?!' she thought frantically, mind reeling with the implications. Her new friend was the son of a Goddess and a man with 'powers', with siblings that were apparently very skilled with taking down enemies, and she'd been sassing him for months now. Of course, she'd known he had extraordinary family members. He'd told her several times before that his father and sisters had powers and were very strong. Amanda had been perfectly fine with accepting that - not that she had met people like that before, because, well, she was just too painfully ordinary to associate with them - but she knew they existed.
But a Goddess?!
"I, uh, need to sit for a bit." Amanda muttered, stumbling over to a bench a little further down the street and flopping down on it numbly. She set her bags down and curled over, covering her face with her hands. She felt weak, wobbly, and vaguely terrified. There was a headache coming on and honestly she feel too drained to care - what was with Kaosu and giving her the shock of her life every time they met in person?!Ruler of Everything (This is very late and I am very sorry. Kaosu nodded, intending to respond in kind, appreciating Amanda's comforting words. He didn't need them, but they were always nice, especially from her. What he didn't expect was a need to comfort her. Amanda's face visibly blanched as she sputtered, swaying a bit then throwing herself onto the nearest bench. All because of the simple fact that Ayami was his mother? He laughed, quickly reaching up clumsily to suppress it.
Stumbling after the female, he shook his head. "Is something... wrong with that?" Setting down the bags he was holding, he scooted next to Amanda, keeping an eye on her face. Kaosu then closed his eyes, wondering what on earth triggered this strange episode. Amanda tended to have a lot of mood swings, sure, but this was a little dramatic, even for her. Scrunching up his face, he glanced over at her. "They're all very nice people. Particularly Mom. She was kind of a helicopter when we were little, but she's great now. Much less overbearing." He laughed, thinking of the talk he'd had to have with her when he first started seeing Lucrecia. Poor Lucy had felt suffocated - her parents were strange and often around but nothing compared to his mom. Kaosu smiled at the memory, shocked at the lack of a bitter aftertaste. Strange, how that happened.
Moving closer to Amanda, he bent down to be more level with her still-covered face. "If you tell me what's wrong we can, uh, talk about it. That might help you, somehow. I've been told that's... a thing... women like..." Awkwardly, he glanced around, glad there were no passerby to hear him fumbling over his own discomfort.

A laugh bubbled out passed her lips at Kaosu's concerned question, border-line hysterical. Amanda listened to Kaosu ramble on about his family, finding some measure of comfort just in his voice. He had such a nice voice... She took a deep breath, mentally shaking off that thought and locking it away in a box in her brain labeled 'DO NOT TOUCH'. She managed to laugh at his faltering attempt to comfort her, sitting up with a long breathy sigh.
Amanda smiled at him, reaching over to gently pat his hand. "I'm... sorry, I suppose. I overreacted and I apologize for that. It's just-" she paused to chuckle miserably, "Oh, I don't know. I'd always thought demigods wouldn't really want to associate with normal people. And I'm... as painfully ordinary as they come." Amanda shrugged, looking down at her lap where her hands were folded demurely. She resisted the urge to pluck at the fraying edged of her shirt. She still felt pale and shaky, and was already starting to berate herself. That she used to claim that women in old films swooning at 'shocking news' was fabricated only increased her shameful ire.

Kaosu smiled, glad to have elicited a positive response from his friend. Laughter was good. That meant she wasn't angry at him. Why would she be angry at him? He figured he ******** up enough times to receive anger retroactively for it all, so honestly, it wouldn't surprise him in the slightest.
At the headpat, Kaosu struggled to look offended but instead burst out laughing. Only Amanda would find it appropriate to comfort his comforting her with a pat on the head. She really was a strange creature. This thought was only furthered by her next comment, to which Kaosu chuckled once again. "Amanda, I'm not sure if you know this, but uh..." he looked around, faux awkwardly, "Demigods are only born when, well... when a god loves a mortal very, very much... they, uh..." He waggled his eyebrows and used an elbow to nudge her side suggestively.
"But, honestly, Amanda..." his face flushed as his mind wrapped around what he was trying to say. "I understand you're a 'mortal' in technical terms, but you're a goddess to me." By this point his face was flushed the deepest of crimsons. "I should only be so lucky to get to spend this time with you." Kaosu chanced a glance up at her, then furtively looking down. It was rather frustrating that she had no idea the large place she occupied in this world, mortal-status or not.

Amanda couldn't stifle her snort of amusement when Kaosu's beginning explanation took a turn for the playfully suggestive. 'What a silly guy.' she thought, almost fondly, as she rolled her eyes and nudged him back. Honestly, his seeming refusal to take her worries seriously normally would've offended her to the highest degree. But, well, there must've been something about today that was messing with her emotions. Or it was just him...
Her eyes widened almost as quickly as her brows shot up into her hairline, mouth opening soundlessly as Kaosu continued to give Amanda the highest compliment she was sure to ever get in her entire existence. If not for their very recent conversation on deities, she would've shrugged it off as him causally playing at flirting with her to make her flustered (she'd discovered early on that this was one of his favorite pastimes and still struggled not to react). But now, knowing what he was and that he very likely did know actual gods and goddesses, gave her reason to pause. Putting a hand one one of her frightfully heated cheeks, she ducked her head and looked away, biting her bottom lip to stifle a giggle that threatened to bubble up from her chest. "I, uh... Thank you, Kaosu." she paused to peek over at him, his own apparent embarrassment only proving to incite a flare up of her own. "That's very sweet of you to say..."Ruler of Everything (Sorry this took so long! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BTW! <3)

Kaosu grinned. Although his face was still tinted crimson, at least he'd managed to bring Amanda's spirits up, if only a bit. He still wasn't quite sure what had happened to frighten her so much, but he knew it was safer not to bring it up. Feeling his face beginning to cool down, he glanced over to her, glad to see her reaction mirrored his. He still wasn't quite sure what he'd done or said to trigger such an initial meltdown, but he knew he wouldn't say it again. Bumping her shoulder once more, Kaosu stood up, stretching out his arms exaggeratedly. Glancing around, he finally noticed the bags sitting around their feet.
"So, are you ready to get these home, or do you have another meltdown scheduled that I should know about?" He grinned, gesturing to the bags full overflowing with supplies. Gods, she was cute. At the though, Kaosu rolled his eyes to himself, pretending to cast his gaze off into the distance. He wasn't sure why it was he could say nothing right around her. Texting Amanda was different - for some reason, it was easy to just not mess up. In person, he got nervous. And apparently nervousness led to... word vomit? Whatever it was, he needed to get control of it, quick. The idea of losing her wasn't exactly something he was fond of. Amanda managed to laugh when he nudged her again, watching him stand with a smile. Until he stretched. Her eyes widened slightly at the small patch of skin the motion revealed, the finite moment of something catching her attention in horrified fascination. She snapped out of her daze in less time than it took blink, her flush deepening as she also stood. 'What was that all about?!', she thought, ducking her head to pick up her grouping of bags and struggling to deal with her heart's sudden desire to thump wildly in her chest.
She jumped a little when Kaosu addressed her, blinking at him in curiosity. And then in annoyance, with a pout. Amanda rolled her eyes, shaking the bags in her hand and waiting until he picked up his own before setting off. In an uncharacteristically bold move, she transferred all her bags to one hand and latched onto his arm. "So," she drawled, attempting to feign nonchalance in the hopes it would become reality, "What kind of pie do you like? I have apple made already from last night, but I wouldn't mind making cherry if you wouldn't mind waiting for it."

Watching Amanda's face, he realized he would never truly be able to tell what she was thinking. The emotions that flew over her face changes quicker than he could understand, and not one of them was recognizable. Not until her expression settled and she latched onto his arm, at least. But then his vision was blurred and his own thoughts stunted for some time. This girl never failed to surprise him, that was for sure.
Clearing his throat in a faulty attempt to shirk away the sudden embarrassment, Kaosu smiled, trying to act nonchalant. "Apple sounds lovely! You don't happen to have any ice cream to go with that, do you?" He laughed, realizing how eager the question came out. "I'm sorry, I think my sweet tooth is showing." He grinned, briefly recalling his stint (if you can call a few months a "stint") eating fattening food non-stop. Although he didn't want to backslide, Kaosu really couldn't resist getting to try Amanda's baking, if only this once. "Whatever you feed me, I'm sure it'll be wonderful." Bending slightly, he scooped up the bags he was relegated and started back on their walk, praying this time he wouldn't trigger some strange reaction in his lady friend. For if he did, he'd likely miss out on pie - and who would want to risk that? ChibiWrites I swear I'll be quicker about this - the end of the semester just kicked my a** but we're good now. xD

Amanda found herself smiling at Kaosu's enthusiastic response, a flutter of contented warmth settling in her stomach where a ball of anxiety had once rested. "Ice cream?" she said, tilting her head and pursing her lips as she thought, "I think we have a half pint of vanilla in the fridge..." You know, if Heather hadn't gone and eaten it already. (Both of them had notorious sweettooths and it was a constant struggle of balancing diets and wallets in the Rowlander residence).
She did, however, successfully resist the urge to blush when he complimented her (again! What was with him today?!). "Ha! How do I know you're not just buttering me up so I'll give you a bigger piece of pie?" Amanda said, squeezing his arm playfully. They were almost at the apartment so she'd need to dig out her keys soon. But, then again, he was pretty warm... and he smelled nice...
Ah, there was her crippling mortification over having such thoughts - she'd wondered where it had gone!

Kaosu grinned, hoping more blush wasn't showing through at the direct contact. He never had been any good with girls, and this one had a crazy hold on him. At her response, he shrugged playfully, "What's wrong with complimenting you and earning more pie at the same time? There are no rules against that!" Idly, he wondered how far they were from her apartment, but he didn't much mind the walk. It was strangely comforting. Then again, he remained either cooped up in his own apartment or out wandering the streets aimlessly alone most days, so any contact, at this point, was nice.
"So," he started, glancing about. "You promise Heather won't be home 'til later?" Kaosu looked over to her, grinning cheekily. "Becaaaaaaause," he waggled his eyebrows, as if suggesting someone. "Because I really don't need your sister's first interaction with me to be her witnessing me wolfing down a whole pie. I'm sure she's not judgemental in the slightest, but I'm not sure I could handle the mortification." The male shook his head and shrugged, drawing his eyesight back to the path they were walking.

Amanda rolled her eyes at Kaosu's comment, barely resisting the urge to stick her tongue out at him. "Well, you're not wrong." she said, grinning at him, "But it's good that I now know what an absolute shameless flatterer you are!"
She paused in her taunting when he spoke gain, snorting unattractively at his concern (and the horrible imagery of said pie-eating method). "No, I promise she won't be home before I can toss you out on the street with a full stomach." Amanda said, glancing around to see that they had finally arrived at her apartment building. "Ah! Speaking of which - here we are!" she said, ignoring the pang she felt when she untangled their hands to dig through her purse to get her keys, flouncing up the steps as she did so.Ruler of Everything (Sorry this took so long/is so short!)
