The sudden jerk and aim of Andy's shotgun instantly caught Peyton's attention. She turned, daggers at the ready, but ask she saw were pods. No mist, no monsters, nothing that she could see. A curious glance was turned on the tall trainee, brows arching, but the following comment brought the smile back, although just a touch tense now. "What can I say, hate to be boring." She chuckled. "You'll have a tough time topping this." Peyton offered a shrug, then turned a grin to Mimi. She was a sweet girl, very supportive of her teammates. It was a good quality for a Sun. They kept moving forward along the path, but no more than a couple of minutes had passed before Mimi screamed. Once again the daintiest Sun was whirling around to face whatever had threatened her team, but once again there was nothing to see. "Talk to me Mimi, what did you see?" mrgreen

Peyton's heightened awareness did wonders to help keep the broad-shouldered blond's blood pressure down from heart-attack levels, even if the whole place wanted to jump-scare the s**t out of them. "Thanks MImi, it's--" Whatever he'd been saying got cut off by her scream and he swung Rex around again, eyes seeking out whatever it was that had set his fellow trainee's nerves to screeching. All he saw was more of that disgusting tattered flesh-material, so he looked curiously from Peyton to Mimi, waiting for a report from Mimi before going on.

She hadn't meant to scream, but the face had caught her off-guard, and Mimi was still catching her breath, hand on her chest. "I-I, um, g-gomen, I saw a face, and-"
CRACK
Was that her imagination too?
CRACKKK
The ground suddenly shook and split, spewing out some sort of strange gas. If Mimi wasn't already unnerved by the face, she was definitely unnerved by this. "P-Peyton-san! A-Andy-san! I-is this normal??!"Quote: 81- 100: BOSS ENCOUNTER: - As you continue walking down the sidewalk you hear a large crack, followed by another. A strange gas explodes from underneath, making you extremely dizzy, as you cough to figure out what is going on, fighting for air now. You have exposed your entire team to a hallucinogen, making everything more terrifying than ever as your vision swims and hops uncontrollably and your hearing becomes muted. Something creaks, groans, lurches underneath you, but is that your imagination?

Quote: - BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is a mob that has collective 100 HP. Every time you attack it (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. AS you can't really see the boss, most of it will have to be dependent on what you can see, if anything at all, from strange faceless figures lurching, half-hopping towards you to the smiling dead coming back and swiping at you. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back. Whatever Mimi thought she saw, Peyton was inclined to believe she'd really seen it. They were in the middle of a Fear hot spot, if they hadn't seen strange things the senior Sun would have been alarmed by it. She offered the other girl a nod and a smile, lips parting to reassure her. Then the sidewalk cracked in an all too familiar way, and Peyton was swearing loudly as she jerked her scarf up to cover her mouth and nose, already aware she'd sucked in a couple of lungfuls of the gas, and whatever defensive actions she took now were, more or less, useless. Still, it was good practice. "Scarfs up!" She shouted, cutting off Mimi's question. "Attack anything that moves. If you feel your shield starting to go, play defensively instead!" The gas kept coming, forming a dense fog around them that was next to impossible to see through, and within in, shapes moved, swimming through a cloudy sea in circles around them. "Back to back guys." Something darkened at her side, a face yawning through the mist at her shoulder, and Pey slashed at it. HP: 52 DMG: 1 CHG: 1/3 BOSS HP: 99

Andy was quiet as Mimi started answering Peyton's question, the feeling of disquiet as building in his chest like ozone before a thunderstorm. Something's messing with us...But then the ground cracked open and this weirdly scented gas came up and he inhaled some of it before hiding his mouth behind cloth. Peyton was calling them to arms and leaping into action. Andy pushed back so Peyton and Mimi had his back and he theirs, not bothering to say anything but "Maaan, shadows suck," while sending a shot from Rex tearing through a large dark shape that made the mistake of coming too close to him. Heart pounding loudly in her chest, Mimi did as instructed, yanking up the scarf to cover her nose and mouth as she summoned her weapon. Was... was this what they were looking for? Her vision was still blurry from the gas, but thankfully she hear Peyton and Andy, and did her best to keep close to them. D-Dae-sama, I'm counting on you now, onegai!
She swung, hoping it connected with the spooky faceless shadows.

The shotgn blast was a little startling, but not half so bad as it had been the first time. Peyton watched the dark shape Andy had shot at slink away back into the mist, and she gave a small, approving nod before turning to watch Mimi deliver an attack of her own. They had fallen right into action, back to back, and working cohesively. They were still green, but they were doing well. Now it was her turn as well. She had to have their back, had to keep them safe, and that was what the dainty Sun intended to do. More shadows welled up in the fog, and Peyton turned, rsing up a small hand to aim a hard strike from the curved tip of her dagger right into what looked to be a yawning face with wicked teeth. It shrieked at te point sank deep, recoiling back and away. HP: 48 DMG: 7 CHG: 1/3 Boss HP: 82

They were working well together, Andy felt something slash at his ankle while Peyton's blades were otherwise occupied, but it wasn't that troubling. Once more Rex roared into the gloom, the sound echoing off the abandoned buildings off to the distance. It was loud. Rex's bark was insane and Andrew loved it. Tia Rosa would have hated it completely - he would have thought about it a bit but he was too busy whipping his shotgun around to smack at a whisp before readying another shot. "Tell me there isn't some bizarro version of this damn thing that pops up after we've nailed it?" HP: 24 / 40 DMG: 4 CHG: 2/3 Boss HP: 78

Mimi sincerely hoped there wouldn't be another version. This one was spooky enough as is! She winced as well at the shots, but she wouldn't slink away. Peyton-san and Andy-san were doing a great job keeping the creature at bay, and she would have to do her part too!

"Dunno," she managed to answer after something heavy smacked into her side and sent her stumbling. She caught herself with a hand on the ground, bouncing back up to her feet with weapons in hand to retaliate. "Not sure if this is the same thing I fought, or just something like it." There was no way to know for sure. She darted in, intent to drive a sharp blade into dark sweep of shadows, but it howled at her, jerking it's limb away and sending it back to knock into her stomach, knocking her back and away from the trainees to smack into the ground with a grunt.
