He didn't even really get the chance to gauge just how much of that was innuendo and how more to blush in response when the whole dying incident happened. Between the coughing and the fresh surge of mortification, he was plenty enough red as it was.
When he finally settled down, blinking furiously to try and banish tears that he did not want to shed, Lorne cracked a sheepish smile and ducked his head as he said the first thing that came to mind: "G-guess you t-took my breath away, " and it was corny as hell and he almost immediately regretted it. But it could have been worse.
(Or it could have been better and never happened at all. Whatever.)
"S-sorry, I'll be fine, I -- hi, Nadia."

"Hello Lorne, You look handsome as usual today." She laughed as he blushed. As per usual of Nadia, her arm snaked around his in a leeching one's heat and contact did. She let her fingers lace into his.
"I thought you'd like to look at the stands first?" She started to tug him a little towards them. "I have some foldable bags in my purse." She held it up and then opened it to show him small little bags inside of bags. "Just in case it gets heavy! I might bother you to carry some flats of flowers back to my car if you don't mind either." She gave him an adoring smile.
"It's summer and I would love to get some planted in my garden as soon as possible." She hummed. "Do you like flowers Lorne?"

He hoped the sunglasses helped to obscure the persist flush in his cheeks as she praised him. (They did nothing, for the record.) "No, no, I'm - no, " he ended with a sheepish chuckle. Even so, he wasn't so shy not to squeeze her fingers, just a little.
Lorne was easy enough to lead, offering no resistance as she tugged him along. Probably because he was excited to see what was in the stands too. And - "You have reusable bags, " he remarked, somewhat awed. Okay, so it was a simple thing, and plenty of people used them now. But it was just one more thing on an increasingly (dangerously?) long list of things he liked about her. His smile, in return, was as warm as the sun beating down on them. "No problem at all; I'd be glad to."
Gardens and flowers, see?? It wasn't just the bags! "I love flowers, " he admitted quietly, pushing the longer strands of hair behind his ear. "My family, we -- I, uhm -- I appreciate nature, " seemed to be the simplest way to say it. "Destiny City is nice, but it's a little -- there's a lot of concreate." He laughed softly. "Honestly, if I could keep a garden where I live now, I'd probably be buying flowers too."

"I do. They are pretty handy to have around." She nodded. "I keep some in my car too, but thats for when I go grocery shopping. They have the..." She made a small hum, "cardboard bottoms so they don't fall over in the trunk." She winked and then laughed. "All of these ones will have a fruit design too, it's really cute!"
"I promise that this is really a date and I will treat you to a lunch." She laughed again, "I didn't bring you to be my pack mule."
His quiet admittance to liking flowers made her heart soften. And it was lucky for them that one of the few first stands was selling cut flowers. She made a hum haw sound before- "Wait here Handsome." She went over to the stand and purchased a small cut flower, then brought it over to him.
"Peonies are in season and they have a very light fragrance." She held it out to him, "A gift for you handsome."

He knew the ones she meant, but he couldn't help but grin as she described them. Seriously, he could spend the better part of the afternoon listening to her describe bags and he'd probably be just fine with that - and that sounded really weird when he thought about it.
It was one thing to derail a train of thought. It was another to shove a cow in the way and watch the carnage that followed. Not that it was a bad thing this was a -- oh god, he was on a date with a very very pretty girl. Lorne might as well be sunburned, really! "I-I'm fine being a pack mule, " which wasn't really super romantic or anything like that. Hey, check out the pack mule guy! He laughed like it was a joke. "But really, I should be the one to treat you, I, uh -- being around -- uhm, your company is more than enough, is what I mean."
Then she was gone, but at least this time he didn't stress about it - he knew she was going to come back. What he didn't expect was for her to come back with a gift for him. His sunglasses slipped down the ridge of his nose, enough to see the glimmer of flustered delight in his yellow eyes. "F-for me? - Nadia, it's -- thank you, " he breathed out, gently taking the flower between his hands. Their fingers brushed together and there was no point in pretending he wasn't flustered about it. Lorne's hands were soft; even if he loved being outdoors, he wasn't any rugged mountain climber or anything like that. Definitely not a warrior. He was the guy that sat under a tree in a field and read. "I love it."

Nadia would've have been very tickled at the idea of him listening to her talk about bags. It was what, she thought of, when american's found an accent sexy so they joked about having the person read from a phone book! Except well, she didn't think her talking was sexy.
She just knew the words and cues to throw, if Lorne wished to receive.
"But you are not. You're my very sexy date." She waved her hands, "And I will buy you and equally sexy lunch, it'll make your dance buds just..." She mimicked a sound that was reserved to the more pleasurable acts of life, "melt."
When she handed over the flower, she had known that she had done something right. Their fingers brushed, and she felt that slow brush of attraction, the small jolt that made her giddy. She didn't pay attention to the softness of his hands, nor the ruggedness. Her teal eyes were glued to his yellow ones.
"You deserve flowers Lorne." She smiled, "and a basket filled with food and a blanket. A picnic under tree's and surrounded in quiet." She laughed, "Perhaps if you allow me a second date, we can."

He wanted to insist that he definitely wasn't sexy at all but then she went and made that noise to describe lunch and - wow. In a good way, but the kind that turned him all those fun colors for the tenth time. Even if she got him flustered every damn time, he couldn't help but admire her confidence, the way she carried herself. It really was attractive, even if he could never find the words for it. "Good thing I like melting, " and even if he wanted to cringe, instead he gave a shy sort of smile and glanced down; maybe it wasn't the worst response he could have given. "I - I mean - you know what I mean."
Then again, she went from sultry to saying things like that, and it was enough to drag Lorne from embarrassed to flattered. His smile widened with a flash of teeth. "I think - I think you deserve that most of all, Nadia. I'd be glad - ecstatic to take you there." If he'd allow - there was a jolt of excitement bubbling in the pit of his stomach at the realization that she might even want a second one.

She carried on to a booth, weighing some produce in her hands before sliding into one of the many bags he held and smiled. His shy awkwardness after such a hot comment made her shiver.
She would like to think that perhaps being around her would make him worse off. It was a very elightning and very seductive thought.
"You know handsome, statements like that get me all hot and flustered. I might melt, cause of the heat." She pretended to fan herself as she slipped more produce into the bag, then handing the money over. her thoughts drifted to what she needed before she came over to berries. She loved berries.
"Here, try this, tell me what you think?" She held up the strawberry for him. "Anywhere else you're ecstatic to take me Lorne?" She slid her tone a little more quietly, leaning up and closer to him.

If only he knew what she was thinking, he probably would have stumbled over his words for the rest of the day. As it was, even if he managed to try and laugh (mostly successful), he still swallowed hard at her comment. Yup. It sounded like the most cliche line ever, but seriously, it was the first time he found himself thinking he must worn too much black because suddenly the heat was really getting to him.
Had he sort of meant to make her say something like that? - maybe a little. The interplay between them wasn't comfortable, but it wasn't in a bad way. She was funny, she was interesting, she was all that and more than that. One of those people worth forsaking a lot a little comfort for.
Without thinking anything of it, maybe a little naively, Lorne flashed her a smile before leaning down to take a small bite of it without taking it from her hand. He licked the juices from his lips with a pleased little hum, "Definitely ripe - Naida, you've got to try it, " he coaxed her eagerly.
Lorne was hyper aware of some of the things Nadia did, but others - well, to be fair, his grand list of seductions came down to one person. "Where?" He was flushed again, but more from her closeness than anything else. "Uhm... the mountains. The movies? Oh, a bookstore! I'd definitely like to take you - " Oh. Oh god wait a minute. " - oh, I - wow, I, um, I walked right into that one, I, uh, oh, " and he shrugged his shoulders with a helpless little smile. Don't mind him, pay him no mind, just going to go off behind that flower booth and die, no big deal. It was his time. He'd had a good run.

She actually thought he might turned purple with the amount of color he was getting. She wondered if she fed him blueberries, it would change? She had the erotic thought of just sitting on top of him and feeding him food. He took them so well...
And she loved the feel of his lips almost on her fingers. It was a sort of tease.
Man she was thinking hard with the she-thing today.
She popped what was left of the strawberry in her mouth, sucking on the juice and sighing happily. "They are perfect this season."
"Yes the mountains? The movies? A bookstore?" Nadia laughed, "My handsome date, you sure get it kinky in places don't you?" She laughed again, this time standing on her tiptoes to place a kiss on his lips. "Don't think too hard on it. I don't wanna carry you back to the car, but I will if you faint." She teased.

All he could think for a solid five seconds was that her lips still tasted like strawberries - that he'd tasted her lips at all - that had actually just happened. How easy and smooth and how Nadia it had been. There was a moment, fleeting, where he found himself badly wanting to return the favor.
But no. This wasn't the time. Not because he thought she'd mind, or because his heart was pounding hard in his chest, goosebumps rising along skin that wasn't chilled. He just - if he was going to do something like that, he didn't want it to be an echo. He wanted it to be something special.
Still, none of this really stopped that shy, but broad smile that came from the fact that he'd just gotten a kiss from a very beautiful girl that had somehow ended up as his date.
(If you think he wasn't strawberry colored this entire time up to his ears, you'd be wrong.)
"After that? - don't worry. I think I forgot my name for a second there, " he teased sheepishly, and probably a little lamely, brushing his longer hair behind his ear. (He was still attached to those leaf earrings, even now.) "I think we'd probably have more luck I was the one doing the, um, the carrying."
He hesitated for a second or two more before tentatively reaching out, gently sweeping his fingers once over the top of her hand before he made an attempt to lace his fingers loosely with hers. Very loosely - she could have easily shrugged him off if she wanted to. "So, Nadia - please, I'd... I'd love to hear more about you. What you like, what you do... anything."

She would've liked him to remember that. That she was impulsive and sly. That she took the chances she could, when they were offered. That she would also remember that his kiss was strawberry and surprise.
And then she was back down on her feet, smiling slyly up at him, her teal eyes twinkling with amusement.
"Did you really? Oh dear? We should kiss again to bring it back, shouldn't we?" She teased back, and how adorable was he? Brushing back his hair, showing off the handsome cheek bones and neck.
"If you'd like to take over handsome, I am okay with that?" She felt his hand touch hers, the shy hesitant lacing of his fingers. She didn't hesitate though, sliding her fingers into his and gripping them tight.
There was a slight pleased flush on her cheeks before disappearing. "What would you like to know?" She thought about it, "What are you curious about?" She never thought of sharing herself, because not many of her partners really asked. "I'm an aspiring ballerina." She started, "raised in a large Russian family, with many family scattered through the city and Russia it's self."

When he laughed, even if he didn't realize it, it was happening faster, louder, easier. "Maybe - otherwise we're in for uh, kind of a long afternoon, huh?"
Lorne breathed a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding when she grasped his fingers. A smile stretched over his lips, and he realized it was probably one of the best moments he'd had since coming back to Destiny City - maybe longer that that. He closed his eyes, savoring it; the heat of the sun on his back and persisting in his cheeks, the way her fingers felt clutched between his, the sounds of the shops around them. It was cliche, but he wished it could last, this moment and the rush of elation that went with it.
What was he curious about? - anything, everything! "You're a dancer?" he breathed out in awe. That was a hell of a place to start! "That's amazing! - now that you say it though, you do move like a dancer." He wanted to kick himself as soon as he said it; even if he had been watching the way she moved, did he really have to just come out and say it like that? "I - I mean - oh you know what I mean, right? - were you very young when you started?"
Then, family. It was much easier not to say something like that when it came to family. "You mentioned you don't have much family out here to talk to, right? - if you don't mind me asking (you definitely don't have to) were you born here or in Russia? - how is it there?" Like he'd just realized he'd been talking a lot, he gave a sheepish chuckle and shrugged his shoulders a bit. "That's... a lot of questions. I'm sorry."

"I'm okay with taking things slow and long." She teased, "Just as good as rushed and easy." She stopped at another booth, picking up vegetables that looked near perfect in their crates.
She took great care in remembering what his fingers felt like, laced with hers. Not so rough, but not soft like her own. Larger then her own, and slender. Not bony though. She worried that perhaps he might be a little skinny but that was her russian mother speaking. Not enough food on her bones. Always trying to fatten her up.
"I am, I'm training at the university to become a professional ballet dancer, though I have trained in contemporary and a little bit of hip hop." Her eyes twinkled. "I've been dancing since I was 12. A little late for most dancers, and I didn't have a professional trainer until I was 16. Mostly because I had moved from Russia, to the US and adjusting was hard. I didn't know a good amount of english till 16 either." She rolled her shoulders. "It wasn't bad. We did not live poorly, which made it easier to move here." she smiled, "And family gatherings are always a treat."
She shook her head. "I have a couple of cousins around here. But my family moved out further west."

Even as his cheeks burned, he had to laugh - really, there came a point when you just had to admire how smooth and easy these things rolled off her tongue. Part of Lorne wished he could have even a sliver of that talent. That boldness.
"Do you cook a lot?" he thought to ask with a curious raise of his brows. "I mean... w- wait, that's a silly question, " did she live by herself? She'd mentioned being lonely the last time, but, "I mean do you like cooking?" As if to explain, he gave that soft laugh again and explained, "I have a roommate now, but uh, this is sort of the first time I've been on my own - " He'd done things to help his mother in the kitchen, so he wasn't totally helpless or anything, and he'd tried making meals for his parents and the boy back in France once or twice. " - so it's been a little sink or swim and - " Why did she even want to hear about this? "A-anyway, I just thought of it and... wondered if you liked it."
Smooth as always. (Sadly, not his worst attempt.)
Still, even if he wasn't always the best talker, he was a truly captive audience when it came to listening. He ate up every last word just as eagerly as the bite of strawberry, and even with the sunglasses on his face it was clear she had his full attention. "I'd love to see you dance, " and it was such a blunt admission that he was even a little taken aback, clearing his throat. "I never would have guessed, I mean... you speak English beautifully, " and he averted his gaze slightly as he said it, tightening his hold on her fingers. "Maybe some time - I mean, if you wanted - I wouldn't mind learning some Russian."
