He hedged on answering, and then sighed.
"Yes," said Gale flatly. "I was present for the trial run. It was enlightening, to say the least."
His hand rose, fingers running idly through his long blonde hair. "As for a figurehead, well...that's kind of a conundrum in and of itself. We're not quite certain whether she is who she says she is, or even if she's the one who's actually spearheading everything."

"I don't want to bother you for details regarding the trial run, but is there a report I could maybe get my hands on?" The hesitance was noted, and Horace didn't want to push too hard in case Gale became unwilling to talk at all. He opened his mouth, then closed it, swallowing another question. Instead, he thought about the helicopter he'd barely seen. "So who does she say she is?"

He had no idea if there was a mission report, but since Caelius hadn't chopped his head off yet, Gale somewhat suspected that there was none. He gave Horace a scrutinizing look, trying to figure out if he was someone that wanted information to help or hinder.
There was no way of knowing. He sighed.
"No report as of yet," said Gale, idly rubbing his temple. "The details are hazy at best, there were only a few of us present. If you want a detailed rundown, I can provide one at a later date. As for who she says she is, well...she's either a woman named Charlotte, or a woman named Sam, posing as Charlotte, and right now, it's entirely unclear."

"I'd appreciate a rundown whenever you feel up to it." He noticed the look and the temple rub. Horace figured it probably looked strange, to have someone bombard him suddenly. Horace couldn't help it, once he got his mind fixated on learning something, he often got tunnel vision. He would wait, and watch, and see who possibly had the information, and then he would pounce and get that information. "Did Charlotte used to be a Deus Ex hunter?"

It was less that Gale found Horace strange and more that he just didn't want his participation in the incident with the grail to be common knowledge; though Gale supposed there was really no getting around that, it was simply a matter of time.
"Yes," he said, in answer to the question about Charlotte. "Sam was as well; she was killed last year, but that's come into question if her and Charlotte were somehow connected. We have yet to learn whether or not their identities were switched."

He made a note. "Do they look close enough to pass?" Switching bodies sounded weird and something horseman-ish, maybe, with their clones or something. He reminded himself strongly not to draw wild conclusions. "Think I've got the basics down - anything else you think is relevant? Any sort of identifying mark besides the O?"

"Debatable," said Gale, and then gave a small sigh that was not directed at Horace, but more at himself. "It's all kind of muddled at present, it's difficult to be definitive. But no, not quite ye, no identifying marks to be seen."
He was quiet for a moment and then said, "The artifact is dangerous. Be wary of it, don't go near it if you come into contact with it. And be careful of who you speak to, Ouroboros is an extensive organization."

"So what's it do exactly when touched - greed, infection?" He chewed the end of his pen absently. He had, unfortunately almost run out of questions to ask. At Gale's warning, his brows raised. "Infiltration? Well, you're the only one I've spoken to this far. I have plans, of course, but I'll head your warning."

"Hunger," said Gale absently, his mind flicking back to the feeling of it inside of him, clawing against his stomach. "A terrible hunger and a thirst for something, maybe knowledge."
He let out a sigh. "At least from my own experience. And there are others that know of Ouroboros," Gale added, with a sideways glance at Horace. "A few others on the island have experience as I do, some perhaps more, so just...keep a wary eye out."

Gale got a sharp glance at his mention of hunger. If Horace had to hazard a guess, he would say Gale had touched the grail himself. But he didn't deal in guesses without evidence, so this thought was simply written down and filed away for someday when it might become relevant. "Thanks, Gale. I think, for now, I've exhausted my questions." It was more that he didn't want to eat up more of Gale's time or irritate him to the point that he would not answer questions at a later date. "Except one - are there any on the island who've such Ouroboros experience that you also deem 'safe'? To talk to, of course."

The sharp glance was not noticed, Gale lost in his own thoughts. He dragged himself out of them, however, as Horace thanked him, the faintest hint of a smile touching his face before it was gone.
"Yes," he said. "Otto Graves is one of them. He's a bit...temperamental in terms of dealing with people, so he might not even want to talk to anyone about it, but he's a good guy, and I trust him. Quinn McGonagall is another, and possibly Lucky, though he's a bit...strange. But I would focus more on Quinn and Otto, should you feel the need to talk to anyone."
Gale was silent for a moment, and then added quietly, "If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask me."

Horace made a few quick notes - the names unrecognizable in shorthand. He felt his lips twitch at Lucky's name. As if anyone would doubt he was involved somehow after that helicopter debacle. "Otto's surly as s**t, if Twitter is anything to judge by. But thanks for the heads up, Gale, you've been intensely helpful." He stood, stowing his notebook back into his pocket. He held out his hand for a shake and grinned. "I'll be sure to pop back by if I've more questions, or if I've found anything interesting."

"He is most definitely a surly git," said Gale with a slight smile. "But he's also a good guy, underneath it all; he's been here at least as long as I have, so I know he's trustworthy."
He gave a little nod.
"Good luck."
