The problem with Kodi was that while they did have their differences - Kodi was generally the louder, sassier, more outgoing one - they were brother and sister, and that meant that there were at least some similarities in terms of how they handled things most of the time. Not that Magiore had ever minded this before, but it made things more complicated when the both of them spent all their time bickering and squabbling good naturedly.
"She didn't have to pay me," Magiore said in exasperation, still fluttering about the kitchen, now getting sugar cubes from the cabinet and cream and mil from the refrigerator. "I would have kept an eye on you anyway, little sis, so there's no need for that now."
He scowled a little, because now she was just not playing fair.
"You better have left my bookcases alone," Magiore grumbled as the kettle whistled. He plucked it off the stove with a hot pad wrapped around the handle and began to pour steaming water into each teacup, careful not to spill or over fill.

"Uh huh." She wasn't buying it. How else was he going to have been able to buy all his books if he didn't get paid for babysitting little her?
Kodi flashed him a secretive smile, not really answering if she had messed with the bookcases or not. Of course, she hadn't actually taken over his room either. But she did borrow several of his books to read. All of which were always put back in place.
Or most of them. Some she was rather attached too and read multiple times.
Since she had a spare minute while he was pouring the hot water into cups and then would have to get the tea to steep in said water, Kodi slipped off the couch to explore his place a little more. She quietly stuck her nose into the bedroom, a small smile forming. It reminded her of how his own room back home had been set up. Tidy and organized. Everything sitting a certain way.
She moved on to explore more areas before suddenly remembering something she had brought for her brother. Skipping back to her bag, she dug out a bag of a certain chocolate candy.
"Oh I forgot, I grabbed a bag for you." She dangled the M&M's out in front of her, where he could clearly see what they were. "Unless... you suddenly don't like 'em anymore." She teased.

He had the sneaking suspicion that she had indeed messed with his bookcases in some manner, though there was sadly no proof. Magiore kept giving his sister pointed looks over his shoulder as he prepared the tea - though along with his exasperation, there did also come a faint sense of amusement. It had been too long since he'd last seen Kodi, after all.
Except the amusement was quick to dissipate when he next looked and noticed she was no longer there.
"Hey!"
She was probably in his room, snooping around, and since Magiore was still pouring hot water into the teacups, he couldn't exactly go after her. "Kindly keep your little nose out of my space, dear sister," he called after her, voice leaving little for argument. But she had bounced back after a second, and came to stand next to him, Magiore looking at her warily.
The candy was eyed, and then Kodi was eyed, and Magiore turned back to his tea, because damn it.
"I might...possibly still like them," he said, with as much dignity as he could muster - which wasn't much.

There may have been a snort of amusement in response to his sudden realization she hadn't been sitting on the couch any longer. But she had to sate her curiosity about his place. And since that was now taken care of, he really had no reason to worry so much. It wasn't like she was going to mess anything up.
... okay so maybe she nudged a few things out of place before reappearing, just to spite him. Because she hadn't done it in forever.
"Oh calm down, brother. I can look and not touch, thank you very much." She sniffed indignantly. A hint of a smile appearing.
That only got more prominent as she watched him while dangling the bag of delicious little chocolates. "Only might?" She teased, elbowing him gently. Like he could hide this one from his sister. Probably the only person that knew about his secret little addiction.
"I bet you haven't even bought yourself any for a while." Kodi accused with a laugh, moving away to peer in a couple cupboards until she found a little bowl. The offending bag of M&M's was opened a little to pour some out for her brother (and of course she helped herself to a few), before she rolled the top of the bag and hid them in the freezer.
"Tea ready yet, Mags?" She asked, holding the little bowl out to him.

He knew Kodi was messing with his things, and he did not appreciate her touching his stuff without permission - but at the same time, it was such a familiar and strangely reassuring thing for her to do that he almost didn't mind it so much.
Almost. He still minded a little, but it was quelled when she brought out the M&M's. Damn his sister for knowing what his secret favorite food was and using it against him.
"I haven't, no," said Magiore with a sigh, and when the bowl was nudged towards him, he gave it a suspicious look before he gave in, dropping the tea bags into the hot water and letting them begin to soak. He reached out and took a handful of the colorful candy.
"It's ready, you brat, here," he said, pushing a cup towards her, now thoroughly distracted.

Yep. She had successfully gotten under his skin, she knew it. But the M&M's were her gift for being a pain. Or so he could think. Really, she just figured he needed some in his life again. Since he clearly still tried to hide his addiction to them.
"Y'know, during the holidays, they have mint flavored ones that come out." Kodi said casually, carefully taking the cup and saucer to inhale the relaxing aroma of tea. It made her really smile. This was all so familiar and had been missed. Not that she was going to demand her brother move back home and she'd follow. Heck no! She was enjoying her freedom.
For the most part...
"If I'm a brat, you're a butthead." She said dryly, nudging him in the side.
"So... " Kodi took a sip of her tea delicately before continuing. "Do you miss being home at all?" She asked curiously, wondering if he'd felt any of the small insecurities she'd been feeling since leaving home for the first time.

Kodi knew him, even if Magiore tried to pretend like she was just an annoying little sister. He munched on the M&M's and let the taste of them sink onto his tongue, familiar and absolutely one of his favorite things, in spite of having never really admitted it outright. Such a silly thing to enjoy, and yet there he was, a handful of the small, colorful candies in his palm.
"There's candy corn flavored ones too, for Halloween," Magiore informed her delicately. "I like the original ones best, but the pretzel ones are good too."
The question took him back a little, his eyes cutting towards Kodi. Frowning slightly, Magiore leaned back against his counter and then considered it, absently running a free hand through his head of dark curls. Did he miss being at home? Did he miss what he'd once had?
"A little," he said finally. "Not enough to want to go back, but a little."
He glanced at Kodi again. "Why? Do you?"

Her nose wrinkled a little at that thought. Candy corn flavored? She wasn't so sure she'd like the taste of that one. "I also heard someone say before that there were starburst flavored. But I've never seen them so I don't know if that's true." She replied with a thoughtful look. "Oh the pretzel ones sound good!" Maybe she'd have to find a bag of those to try?
Kodi watched her brother curiously. She was surprised to hear his answer, but it sort of made her feel a little better about her own doubts as of late. "Really?"
Taking a sip of her tea, she didn't answer right. "I feel a little home sick." She finally admitted. "But not enough to make me miss this new freedom I've got."
But at least she had her brother nearby. Something her probably wasn't as fond of but Kodi felt... safe knowing it. Not that she would admit it to him!
