It was being more clever about how it approached him, feinting in only to dash away and attack from a different direction. The tactic cause Johan to miss all of his attacks.

Even with Estel's timely help, that had been a close battle. Johan had to sit for a moment, and just breathe to recover. When he'd finally regained his wind, he pushed himself to his feet, and walked over to clap a hand on Estel's shoulder.
"Thank you." he said, with as much sincerity as he could manage. "I would have died."
