Both the memory and Ganymede’s apology tempered his anger and frustration. Without the anger he just felt lost, and the frustration faded to confusion and sadness. He knew he was stubborn and spiteful. Probably because he knew Ganymede had such a different experience than he had, and he was used to getting what he wanted. As selfless as he liked to think he was, he knew it only seemed that way because he’d rarely come across obstacles in which he needed to look out for himself before anyone else. Now it was different. This was all about him and he hated it.
Still, he knew he had hurt Ganymede in the process and slowly relaxed his hand into hers, allowing her to take it as Liesel had Serge’s hundreds of years ago near that same spot. He turned to her then, wishing there was a way he could find a better way to combat how he felt, but couldn’t think of a solution.
“I’m sorry…” he responded with a heavy sigh. He didn’t want to come up with excuses as to why he acted the way he did, and knew Ganymede already had an idea as to why he behaved in such a way.
Instead, he lifted their held hands up, pulling his away just enough to see the glowing mark on her right hand. He brushed his thumb along it before bring it to his mouth to kiss her palm. “It’s not that I don’t like the idea of being with you forever,” he amended one of his earlier statements. “I just… I don’t want to ******** things up. I almost did before…”

Ganymede shook her head with a smile, but otherwise let Valhalla do as he wished with her hand.
“You’re not going to ******** things up,” she assured him.
She wasn’t entirely sure what he was talking about. He could be talking about the course of their relationship, and all the hurdles they’d had to jump over to get where they were now. Or he could be talking about Serge and Liesel, and the things that he might remember about them that Ganymede did. She chose to assume he meant a little of both. After all, that was how the conversation had been progressing so far.
A little bit of both lives.
“I love you,” she said. “I only want what’s best for you. But what’s best for you might not be the same as what’s best for me, and I need to understand that.”
She kept his hand in hers and stepped closer, leaning up the few inches she needed in order to press their lips together. It was not a long, involved kiss, but it was a comforting one, and when she pulled away she had another smile on her face.
“We don’t have to stay any longer if you don’t want to,” she said, and gave his hand a gentle tug. “Come on. Why don’t we go home?”

He kissed her back and nodded when she pulled away. They’d spent plenty of time there already, and while he was glad they were no longer arguing at the moment, he didn’t want to say something to slip back into a debate.
Valhalla allowed her to tug at his hand and he turned to follow. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see as Liesel leaned up to kiss Serge, the gesture leaving Serge relaxed and almost uncharacteristically calm.
While he was afraid of what he may discover, he knew Ganymede was right. Maybe if he learned just a little at a time, it wouldn’t be as horrible as he expected.
