Conrad stiffened in shock when he felt the man's arms wrap around him and pull him into a spooning position, this was not what he expected, he glanced at the man in confusion about to open his mouth and ask what was going on but decided against it. Having the man arms around him felt surprisingly...nice, granted Conrad did usually curl up with his children but this was different. Conrad suddenly yawned widely, finally starting to lose the battle with his exhaustion, as he felt his eyes slip close he heard the man tell him to sleep well before trailing off, realizing he never told his name. "Conrad..." he mumbled before blissfully sliding into sleep.

 So his name was Conrad. easy enough to remember. Subaru supposed he'd have to learn the names of the children as well, but for now he was too content with his new found sleeping position. Conrad gave a soft sputtering snore and Subaru smiled a little, maybe this would be like the time he found an abandoned wolf and raised it in secret. the creature would sleep next to him and snored as well. he closed his eyes and drifted off as well, knowing his servants were out terrorising the villagers that dared to get too close to the manor. that would keep them away and his new pets safe. Subaru tended to sleep in, he and the morning didn't agree and he tended to stay up most of the night. when he woke, it was to a warm body beside him and he snuggled closer, his nose in the other's hair, his lips so close to the soft flesh of their neck. it was a feeling he could get used to waking up to.

(Oh sorry I didn't see that you replied) Conrad cracked open his eyes still half asleep, he looked around expecting his children and instead seeing nothing, panic seeped into him as he flailed trying to find them, then his memory of last night came back and he froze hoping he didn't accidentally hit the other man in his panic. Thankfully he didn't but Conrad was sure that the other man was probably awake now, and probably not happy about it.

((sorry, forgot to quote you!)) Subaru growled when the man beside him began to flail around. he moved out of the way so he wouldn't get hit. Once Conrad seemed to remember where he was and calmed down, Subaru got out of bed. "i do hope you won't make a habit of waking up like that. if you were ever to actually hit me, i would punish you." he met the human's eyes, showing he was 100% serious before turning away. "apparently your offspring are causing a ruckus since you are not with them. my servants have them corralled in their room, shall they bring them here?"

"I'm sorry it won't happen again and yes that would probably be wise" said Conrad, what was unsaid was this is why I wanted to stay with them so they could aclimate faster to the manor. The servants brought Alvis and Alouette in, they were crying but not loudly and once Conrad caught sight of them he didn't care about his half nakedness and immediately swept them into his arms. "Shhh it's alright I didn't abandon you I promise, I'm sorry but I wasn't allowed in your room for the night" he whispered gently wiping their tears away. Soon their crying abated but they refused to let go of him, and Conrad refused to let go of them as well. Scared that they would be punished for crying.

Subaru watched the children being brought in, surpised that they were letting his servants carry them. interesting. the children were put down and latched onto their father, but he held onto them with a similiar vice grip. they were crying, but not annoyingly so. he was glad for that, Subaru was in no mood to put up with tiny screaming humans. "hmm, i suppose you will need food, very well. my servants will prepare something" he walked past Conrad towards the door and paused as the scent of fear tickled his nose. he looked them over curiously. "they will not be harmed. should they do something to anger me, you will be punished. i'm not such a monster as to beat children. though i just might eat them." he smiled, his sharp teeth out to be seen before walking out. "food is in the dining room, follow me."

At that comment Conrad gripped his children tighter, at least until the man walked out of the room. " Daddy who is that man?" Alvis asked from where he was being held in the crook of his father's neck. "He's the master of the manor little one, he's letting us stay here" Conrad replied. " Why didn't he let you stay with us?" asked Alouette. "He....wanted to try something with me sweetie it's nothing for you to worry about, now how about I get dressed and we go eat hm?" he replied. At that his two children nodded and Conrad slowly released his hold on the children, he didn't say anything but the fact that he saw a glimpse of very sharp teeth in the master's mouth terrified him. There was also the fact that he said he just might eat Alvis and Alouette, something Conrad didn't think he was joking about. Conrad hurriedly got dressed not wanting to be late and hand and hand with his children walked into the dining room.

Subaru looked over what his servants had brought and nodded. they had hunted in the forest and caught wild hare as well as found various vegetables and fruits as well as some sort of eggs. those were all things humans ate, right? they had been cooked and were ready when the humans arrived. Subaru sat at the head of the table and motioned to the seats to his left. "eat, feed your little ones and tell me of yourselves. I know you were being hunted, but tell me. why did they choose your family?" he looked at the twins and saw nothing strange about them, likewise with Conrad. Then again, most humans looked the same to him. "Tell me, as you may have guessed, i do not have visitors often." a servant pours him a glass of dark red wine and he sipped at it as he settled back to hear conrad's tale.

Conrad nodded at his children and they dug in the food, though they tried to be as neat as possible about it. At the man saying that he saw nothing odd about his children Conrad looked at the man in confusion, most people when they had first seen the twins had commented about how odd their eyes where. He glanced at his children and four eyes looked back at him one of theirs a brilliant gold and the other a vivid blue. But then again the man did not seem to be human so perhaps he had seen other people with eyes like them. "The village...held certain superstitions about people with different eyes, when the twins were born they believed that they were demons. At the time is only by the fact that my wife was the village chief's daughter that they didn't kill them. But, she died soon afterwards and we were exiled. For a while we were fine but then people started getting sick and dying at a rapid rate. There was nothing anyone could do and so they turned on what they believed was the cause of the sickness...my children" Conrad said. He took a moment to eat something and drink some water before continuing. "They intended to burn Alvis and Alouette at the stake, to free themselves of the perceived evil my children had wrought" At that a dark furious look came across his face and he clenched his hands tight enough that they turned white. "I didn't know where else to go, the villagers wouldn't go near this place, they thought it was cursed and I would be damned if I let my children be murdered so I ran" Conrad finished.

Subaru huffed and shook his head, softly muttering, "humans," with exasperation. He stood and walked to where the children were eating, taking first one than the other's face into his hands and looking deeply into their eyes. "typical of your people to take a gift and see it as a curse," he said still holding the girl's face. he released her and moved back to his seat, "there is no evil in them. power, yes, but nothing that would cause the disease." he took a sip of his wine, "though coming here might be just as dangerous, you are lucky to have caught me in a good mood." he looked over Conrad again before his eyes drifted towards the children. "the three of you become more and more interesting as time passes," he said, quite pleased. "tell me, child, do you have any learning?"

Alouette fidgeted a bit before answering " U-um Daddy taught us our numbers and how to read and write, he is also taught us about plants in the forest and how to read tracks" she suddenly trailed off feeling very shy. Conrad smiled proudly at her, that she was able to get her words out with barely any stuttering, even he was still intimidated by the master of the house. He was also proud that he taught them well, granted the education they had couldn't really be considered normal but, a lot of what he had taught them would come in handy if they got separated.

Even Subaru had to admit, the little girl's figeting cute...sort of. "so the important things, then. if you wish to read something you are welcome to, however should you damage one of my books in any way your father will be punished while you watch." he met her eyes and then the boy's before looking back to Conrad, "the same goes for you, though it shall be one of the children instead." he leaned back, swirling the wine glass in his hand as he studied the family he'd taken in. "what do you normally do with yourselves?" he just realized he had no idea what humans did during the day. what would his guests do with themselves. "i usually sleep until the afternoon, so you will be by yourselves during the morning. stay away from my room and you won't need to worry about being quiet, but don't scream unless you wish me to come. and if i am woken for no reason i will be displeased."

"There really much for us do where we lived, we would usually tend the small garden by the house, I would give them their lessons and we'd just do whatever we wanted to for the rest of the day" Conrad said but his eye gleamed with something. The prospect of using the master's most likely vast library made him quite happy but, he knew he would have to be extra careful with the books. Granted he knew they were still walking around eggshells with the master of the manor and hearing of the word "punishment" gave him a sick feeling in his stomach.
