Snow? That gave him pause. There was some snow a few miles from here at the top of a peak, but that would be completely unacceptable a climb for the little filly. Still, looking at her face he didn't want to disappoint either. He thought hard, trying to recall something he was told once about this area. He seemed to remember being told there was a valley not so far from that peak that was sheltered on all sides and stayed very cold most of the year. There might likely be some snow there.
He returned the filly's grin. "Ok, my Princess. We shall find some snow." He bowed low to her, then straightened and gestured in the general direction of the valley. "We go this way." He half hoped she'd get bored before they'd gone a mile.

She gasped happily and could have gotten whiplash with how fast she turned her head to look in the direction he pointed. So, that was the direction of snow! the little mare thought to herself. Giggles escaped from her like a purr from a content kitten. Oh this was going to be so much fun! Pale purple eyes shining with delight turned to look back into eyes just like hers and she nodded.
"Then let us head out!" She bubbled in her delighted speech not even waiting for him and starting to positively hop along the direction they would be heading.

He hid a slight frown at her enthusiasm. He wondered what Lyka would think about this little excursion. Ah, well, little to be done about it now! He shrugged and followed the little filly, occasionally pointing the way if she looked back for guidance. He couldn't help but feel joy when watching her enthusiasm for the adventure. Maybe that was something hereditary.
To his surprise and mild disappointment she didn't seem too bored after a mile. Luckily, the sheltered valley wasn't so far away. He could see the hills from here. He also spotted some lovely flowers, and paused to collect a few, twining them around each other into a crude circle. He didn't have a lot of talent with such things, but it was passable enough.
"Here, my Princess! A crown." He smiled at her as he offered it up.

The little filly pranced on happily and only paused when she glanced back to make sure she was going the right way. Up ahead a ways she could see the ground starting to bump out. This caused more giggles to escape from her. Oh how she wondered if the mountains would look a funny as the green lumps did! When he paused to collect the flowers she too had paused not hearing his steps behind hers and worried. This passed when her Poppaw presented to her the crown he made.
Giggling more she ducked her head for them to be placed on her head, "Oh thank you! These are so pretty!" Her head tilted slightly to the side. "What type of flowers are they?"

He grinned at her pleasantly but could only shrug at her question. "I'm afraid I'm no good at identifying plants, little Princess. I have failed you!" He bowed low in mock apology. "Please do not banish me from the kingdom! I swear I will make it up to you!" He kept his nose to the dirt and shifted around wildly, flinging dirt on her. He peeked at her out of the corner of his eye, barely containing his laughter. "Please don't banish me princess!" He laid it on as thick as he could, pretending to cry at her feet.

Virulent tried her very best to pout at her Poppaw's response, but just could not quite make it. The laughter that escaped her was so loud and continuous that the tiny filly fell over onto her side. She was very much a sight to behold laughing that way, and certainly nothing like a little princess. Not wanting to worry the older stallion, she stumbled back onto her still shaking legs with giggles escape not so slowly. Little Viru tried her best to clear her throat and regain her regal composure.
"Well then my good sir," the giggling was laced in every word despite her efforts, "I will just have to think of a suitable punishment then." Tears of her joy were all over her cheeks but she did not seem to care.

He could hardly control himself as she fell over giggling, but he held his ground and kept his face in a mock somber expression. He let her get up on her own, still kneeling before her. "Whatever punishment my Lady thinks best," he said, the laughter in his voice despite his best efforts. "I shall bear the worst punishments I must to remain by your side!"

She shook her head a couple of times to help get her mad giggling under control and then cleared her throat. Somehow she managed to fully regain her composer with her snout held high. The filly turned on a dime moving onward toward their destination.
"After our destination has been reached, your punishment will be dealt to you." Truthfully she was bluffing and had no idea at all for how to 'punish' her Pappaw. She silently mulled it over in her head while her nose remained prominently hoity toity in the air. If she could only see herself, her giggling would be started up anew. Viru had no doubt that her grandfather was following her again, and undoubtedly he was still chuckling at her antics.

There was a warmth flowing through him as he picked up the quest anew. He was enjoying being around the filly; it reminded him of when his kids were young. His thoughts fluttered briefly to Leilha, the mare who bore his two sons. He wondered briefly where she might be now, and spared a moment to wish her well. He wondered where his sons were at that moment as well, the two having become independent adults with their own mates. The fruit of Lyka's endeavors was before him now, frolicking happily. He was glad they seemed to be thriving.
"You know Your Highness, your new crown is really very becoming. You look so grown up!" No TOO grown up though. Not too fast...

Virulent looked back over her shoulder at her Pawpaw. "Does it really?" She questioned in awe. Her gaze moved quickly forward again to insure she did not trip. The filly sure would hate to go through that whole ordeal again. The thought made her giggle slightly. "If I'm a grown-up, what does that make you Pawpaw?" Was there even anything after grown-up? She did not know.

He had to ponder the question for a moment, moving along in somber silence. "I suppose I'm a super-grownup," he said seriously, managing not to crack a smile. "I am the most ancient of grownups in all the land," he said dramatically. "And that means I am very, very wise." He gave her a knowing wink. A slow smile crept across his face as he looked down at her.

The young mare did a quick turn to look at her Pawpaw again coming to a full stop yet again. Her eyes were comically large as they would be for any child her age. "You... you are ancient? AND WISE?" She could not conceive of both. Did ancient not mean one foot in the ground.... What ever that meant. "Pawpaw is the best!" A bright grin spread across her face.

He burst out in a deep-voiced laugh, rumbling out from the depths of his being. "You are very good company, M'lady. Come, I believe you wanted to see some snow, yes?" They were nearing an area that had some snow in it, a sheltered little valley that somehow got all the cold precipitation. He couldn't wait to watch her frolic in the snow. It was a few inches deep, nothing too impressive, but it would be fun to run through for the filly, he was sure. He scooped up some snow and flung it at Viru, laughing.

They had walked a little farther, and that was when she saw the snow. Unable to believe they had made it this far already, Virulent was in shock. That was until she was promptly doused with some of the cold white fluff. Shaking herself, the small mare let out a huge squeal before happily hoping around in the snow. It was not as deep as she thought it would be, but that did not bother her. Her excitement kept her moving around at speeds that bordered on dangerous. Viru calmed down after a moment and marveled at seeing her own breath. Her Pawpaw's laughter rang in her ears and she tired to pounce on him. "Won't you play too?"

He watched her running through the snow happily, admiring her speed. She was a strong little filly! At her inquiry he shrugged noncommittally. "I'm an old stallion, M'Lady. I can't race around like you!" He cocked his head at her curiously. "But you know what I CAN do?" He stealthily moved closer to her, then suddenly reached out and touched her, jumping away suddenly and running through the snow, looking back and yelling "Tag, you're it!"
