Learning the Way

Celestial Plane. That was where the feral Orakoi named Nelareth now lived. Lazarus, his protector, brought him into the Plane under the pretense of him being bonded. Suspicion aside, the coy act worked and fooled the guards. When Lazarus arrived home with Nelareth, he introduced the Khehora to his family, all of whom were nervous at the newest arrival's presence. But, Lazarus stated that he would train Nelareth to be obedient and that he was just an impressionable little Orakoi.

As time passed, Lazarus took on the deed of raising this Orakoi on his own, in the Sorak family back yard. Nelareth learned quickly, the language of the Magescians, he also began to spout fire from his nostrils and mouth, making Lazarus learn quickly that this little Orakoi wasn't a Peisio, but rather a Firani with his display of power.

They had gone through some hardships once the Orakoi realized his true power over fire. He had burned down his hut once while the Sorak family was away, also caused some scorched earth in the back yard, and was just like a little puppy learning the ropes of non-feral life. Being a feral in a bonded world was strange, even though the Orakoi hadn't ever known what it was like to be truly one way or the other. But, as time passed, Nelareth learned to control these outbursts of blue flame and truly hone in on what was right and wrong within the Magescian community.

It took months, but Nelareth began to speak more, learn more, and grew larger every day. Lazarus' love helped the little Orakoi grow more and more powerful each and every day. The bond the two shared was greater than even the magical bond that occurred during the first breath of regular Orakoi and their bonded partners. They were inseparable and did everything together after a few months. They met with Vyren here and there, trying to get the two accustomed to each other at first, and that was when Lazarus decided to suggest such a thing as Vyren training the little Khehora in the ways of Firani living. It was a perfect scenario! Finally, after much grief and convincing, Vyren agreed and from that moment onward he was bound to be the teacher of this little Orakoi. The two trained together weekly for the next year. Nelareth and Vyren both had their own stubborn attitudes when it came to the Firani way of life, but they made it past all of their hurdles and had become friends over the course of that time.

Months turned into a year, and the three, Nel, Laz, and Vye, were bonded closer than ever before. Now, Nelareth knew his place in the Sorak household. He stayed outside in a makeshift cabin that the family created for him, (one which was more flame resistant than the last) so he wouldn't disturb the peace of the indoors. Lazarus stayed many nights to outside with him under the stars. The two were best friends, and so began the life of the little Orakoi turned Orakoir, Nelareth.

Firani Training

"No, no, no. That's not right at all. You have to feel the fire within," Vyren scolded with a sigh.

Nelareth dug his claws into the ground. "I'm doing the best that I can," the Orakoir spoke, eyes closed and taking deep breaths.

At this point in time, Nelareth was not able to fully control his fire. With sneezes, coughs, and sometimes even breaths, the Khehora would simply blow out fire along with the air. Not only that, but when he did decide he wished to breath fire, he couldn't always produce it. That was why Vyren was here in the Sorak family's backyard. To teach this Orakoir how to breath fire...properly.

"How about a little break?" the Peisio Dovaa commented, standing up and making his way towards his charge.

Nelareth nodded with a sigh of relief. He longed for a break - almost desperately.

"Of course not! We've barely begun. We can't take a break already! C'mon Laz. What do you expect this bug to learn if we don't actually practice?" the Expert questioned in a harsh tone. Of course, he practiced day and night constantly - especially when he was younger - so his version of 'practice' wasn't like everyone elses.

"Vye, he's been at this for hours. You can't expect him to concentrate with all the yelling you're doing," Lazarus defended calmly.

"Do you want him to continue burning the place down?"

"He's never actually burned down anything fully. I'm always there to put it out. He'll learn. You just have to be more patient. Nobody is a workaholic like you, Vye. You have to realize that."

Nelareth just watched as the two bickered back and forth. He went to his large water bowl and lapped up some water quickly, knowing that this was the short amount of time he had before Vyren scolded him again.

Vyren blasted a small fireball at Nelareth's tail to get his attention.

With a howl, the Orakoir spun around quickly, whipping his tail back and snarling blue flames with hot eyes glaring at the Magescian.

A smirk grew on the Firani Dovaa's face as he flicked another fireball into existence. "You'll learn soon enough," Vyren spoke as he threw the ball towards the Khehora.

Nelareth simply batted the ball of flames with his tail, causing the fire to explode and fizzle out around it.

"Anger will also provide a good amount of firepower," Vyren stated, a devious grin still plastered on his face.

Nelareth let out a slight roar. With narrowed eyes, the Orakoir began charging at the Dovaa.

Powerful wings blasted the Dovaa upward in a couple quick swoops. Then, down he came, flying straight for the Khehora.

With a much more confident and powerful roar, Nelareth blasted out a long, large stream of bright blue fire from his mouth. It consumed Vyren's entire body as he glided right into it.

It was then that Vyren burst forth from the fiery abyss, unscathed. A simple nod and proud smile grew upon his lips. "Anger will definitely be your training tool."

I Can Fly

The morning had turned into the sunny summer day in the Celestial Plane, and Nelareth was finally fully aware of his wings. At first, they were always in his way, flapping never in sequence with one another. They didn't seem even very natural for the Khehora and he wondered, all through his Orakoi years, if he'd ever get the hang of having large wings. Maybe it was because his were so much larger than a normal Khehora's wings? Or possibly because he just wasn't always super aware of their placement? But, in all reality, it was probably a combination of the two things that caused him to feel so awkward whenever it came to his wings and flying.

Lazarus had just recently become an Expert in the Dovaa kingdom, and his wings were beginning to grow in. They were small, much smaller than Vyren's had been, but it didn't bother the Peisio one bit. He was still able to flap them, even if he wasn't able to fly or glide (not that he would be able to anyway at such a young age) but nevertheless, the Khehora had some learning to do of his own. Flight was a powerful thing, and it was something every Khehora needed to learn in order to be a completely competent member of society.

"Okay, Nel, are you ready?" Lazarus asked with a smile as he stood in the Fields of Aloradhan with the large, over-sized, Orakoir.

"I shall try, master." he said, looking up into the sky with his own ice blue eyes.

Lazarus sighed, "You really don't have to call us that, Nelareth. I can't believe Vye got you stuck on calling both of us master."

"But you, master, are my master. Vyren is not. Vyren is a pretentious p***k." Nelareth huffed, blowing small, quick blue flames from his nostrils.

Lazarus giggled. "Vyren can definitely be pretentious and "p***k-like" now and again. But he's my best friend, Nel. And if it weren't for him, you wouldn't be here today with me." he stated with a kind smile, walking over to his Khehora companion and rubbing his nose with one of his hands and stroking the Orakoir's chin with the other. "Now, are you ready to learn to fly? All I can do is stand back and watch, telling you what you're doing wrong. Since I, truly, can't even fly yet either. Hopefully in a few years my wings will be big enough to at least glide on." he stated.

Nelareth nodded and took a few steps back and a deep breath, blowing out some icy-blue flames in the process. With that, he took a few running gallops and then jumped, wobbling back and forth before falling to the ground a few feet away.

"Oh wow, Nel! Great job. You're a bit wobbly, but aside from that, you seem to have great control. Just keep your wings as stable as you can, and glide first." Lazarus stated as he clapped for his companion.

Nelareth tried again, this time, trying to keep his wings as stiff as he could. He glided a few extra feet this time and with a happy landing, he roared.

Lazarus laughed and clapped again. "I can't believe you're already gliding short distances. You'll be flying in no time!" he said with a smile.

The two stayed out and practiced for many more hours that evening, and for the week to come, until finally, Nelareth could fly short distances alone.
