Hearing Rep talk was like listening to the way a child draws - none of the lines connected and all the colors didn't make sense. "Are you're proud of that? Of using people, trying to break them so they wouldn't leave - were you that afraid of being alone?" And it was so, so much easier to focus of things involving Rep. Don't let it be personal, he thought to himself. Tracey swooped in against his shield and how was he supposed to dodge an axe the size of three cows, anyway? So he grinned and he took it. It drove the breath from his lungs and, still panting, he dodged along its edge. Horace ducked under and around.

One after the other, he put his fists into the small of Rep's back, then into his side. Horace hissed as his left hand hit, the shock still reverberationg up his arm. And, because he could, he dragged fingers through red hair and yanked before trying to dart back. "You like 'em broken - is that what you were trying to do to Jordan?"

"It wasn't so they wouldn' leave." he said. "It was jus... just to see what they were made of." Except maybe it had been partially to keep them there, to keep them his, it had been safer, easier to argue his masculinity with someone else in his service.

The blows were too quick for his dulled senses and this time he made a sound of pain as his hair was pulled. "Who the ********> hair?" he snarled, clumsily turning to face Horace again.

"And NO." he added. "Jordan.. it.. it wasn't. What happened to Jordan was an acci'dnt." Just like Rin, just like Melvin, everything was accidental.

He jabbed Tracey irritably in the other man's direction. "I was always alone. Bitcshes or no."

"I pull hair." He snorted. "It's a liability - long hair - too easily caught up in things. Plus sometimes it throws people off." He waggled his fingers at Rep. "Any advantage works." He batted Tracey away, wincing. He was getting weaker, more tired. There was no hope that he would win this spar, but it was nice. He much preferred fighting full hunters.

He moved forward and feinted to the right before striking out with his left. Horace was becoming more used to the residual weakness in that hand; he was compensating, mostly. "An accident?" There was a wealth of disbelief in his words. "You push people away and you do it deliberately, I bet. You're the only reason you're alone."

Rep's scalp still stung slightly from the tug, it was sensitive for whatever ******** reason, though less so on the white side than it was before. He'd always had short hair because when it was short sometimes you could pretend it was brown or dye it blonde and deny the ******** fact you were ginger, avoid the insults from strangers even if you couldn't avoid the insults from your friends.

He sighed, moving Tracey to his off hand as he steadied himself again, and when he laughed it was more an attempt to put the bitterness he felt somewhere else. "I'd rather be alone than taken advantage of. If they can be pushed away they were never worth knowin'"

Even with the alcohol slowing his reflexes there was something easy and familiar about the way he seized the axe and leapt, bringing it down on Horace's shield, until he felt it crack and the wards took over.

"The others were intentional." he said, as he lowered the axe. "Jordan wisnae."

"Can't say you're wrong, to a certian extent. Tenacity is admirable." Or at least Horace hoped so. He was trying rather hard, clinging to possibilities and 'try hard enough's and 'keep going's. Dr. Morris' words continually pushed him onwards, even if the object of his affections was less than approachable. His hands clenched. Then Rep was leaping forward, and he seemed more graceful in fights than anywhere else.

Of course, with that grace came pain. Horace did not even try to dodge, but instead let Tracey meet his shield, the sharp edge slowly working, wearing it down. Then... it vanished. Jannisari disappeared from his fists and every small pain his shield had been hiding came back, crackling around him like static. His eyes closed for a bit, muscles tense even though Rep pulled away. It had been enough and exactly no more. Horace sucked in a painful, greedy breath and opened his eyes. Jordan was an accident?

"Old habits die hard, I guess," he panted. "Try not to push Harrison away, would ya?" With that, he gave Rep a jaunty wave and turned to walk off the field on unsteady legs.
