Oliver's forehead creased slightly. Not traditional fishing? With someone as outgoing and adventurous as Arorangi, that could mean anything under the sun. "Um, you're not gonna try to teach me how to grab fish out of the water with my bare hands or anything, are you? Because I don't think I can do that sort of thing..." The kid rubbed his face as he passed through the doors, holding the second open for his friend as he yawned yet again. Despite promises of breakfast, Oliver had gotten his hands on candy, from his bag, or a pocket, or who knows where, and was crunching it between his teeth. Sugar was clearly the best way to start the day.

"Do not be silly, little bird!" said Arorangi cheerfully, reaching over to ruffle Oliver's hair playfully. "That takes many years of practice, and I would not make you do that so soon!"
They stepped out onto the still-darkened campus, the sky above them slowly beginning to streak with the colors of the rising sun. Arorangi quickened his pace, dragging Oliver along with him.
"We are going to be spear fishing - Oliver, it is not good to eat sweets so early," Arorangi said, as they neared the lighthouse, a stern expression on his face.

"That's good, I don't think I can measure my lifespan in years, you know..." Oliver trailed off, fixing his hair with one hand as he was dragged along. Then he stumbled slightly and shot his friend an incredulous glance. "What, you think I would be able to hit a fish with a spear? Let's go do something I actually stand a chance at accomplishing, like hunting lions in Africa armed with a toothpick or something." He badly wanted another candy, but he had already re-interpreted Arorangi's words; Don't eat junk in the morning when his friend was around. Wait for more socially acceptable junk, like poptarts.

Arorangi gave Oliver a pointed look that clearly said no talking down about yourself, mister.
"Spear fishing is not nearly as hard as people make it out," he said, throwing an arm around the other's shoulders. "I think you will do just fine, little bird, you must have more confidence in yourself!"
And he promptly pushed Oliver through the portal without so much as a goodbye.

One minute Oliver was safe and sound, his shoulders weighed down by his friend's arm, and his ears filled with praise. The next he was stumbling and falling face-first onto a sandy beach. He scrambled to his feet quickly, before Arorangi could follow him through the portal, although the marks in the sand left evidence of his ungraceful tumble. Still, he could look around innocently like it never happened. Visually it was similar to the beaches on their own island. Pale sand, that deep azure blue water... A place he would have been amazed to have seen before learning to constantly fear for his life.

"Little bird, you were not supposed to fall," said Arorangi cheerfully, as he stepped through the portal himself; although Oliver was upright, the sand all over the place definitely indicated a bit of a tumble, which made him smile.
Here was warm and welcoming, a pleasant heat at the backs of their necks and the scent of salt water and sand in their noses.
"Welcome to Australia!" said Arorangi brightly, traipsing over to what appeared to be a small stand close by, taking a few moments to speak with the bored looking owner behind it. A short time later, a long bundle was handed to Arorangi, and he came back to Oliver, gesturing for him to follow.
"This way, this way," he said brightly. "It is a little walk to get to where we need to go. What do you think so far?"

There was no point even trying to deny it, even if Arorangi was merely guessing he was spot on. Like usual. He watched with yawning curiosity as his friend retrieved some sort of thing, fishing poles probably, and briefly glanced down to nudge at the sand with the toe of his boot. Arorangi looked fairly comfortable on the beach, but then again, he looked fairly comfortable anywhere he went. Oliver followed with little encouragement. “It’s kinda like the island, with the sand and ocean and everything. Aren’t there reefs here though?”

Arorangi reached out and slung his free arm around Oliver's neck in a casual, friendly sort of way, looking cheerful and relaxed.
"There are reefs here, yes, but I do not know if there are any near to where we will be going fishing," he said cheerfully. "There are many reefs in Australia, this beach in particular is good for the type of fishing that we will be doing, so this is where we are!"
He led the two of them past a few other people, some sleepy looking tourists and a few natives lounging comfortably on the sand, in spite of the early morning. Finally, Arorangi slowed his steps, in a secluded area just off the main beach. It was a flat bank of sand that slowly descended beneath the water, and Arorangi knelt and began unwrapping the bundle he'd been carrying.
He straightened a moment later, holding the objects in question, one in each hand..
"Spear fishing!" said Arorangi brightly. "You will use the three prong spear!"
