Amanda took Kaosu's initial silence as a blessing. It wasn't often that she got hit on, not really. But it still was more than she was comfortable with and it always managed to fluster her. Heather, in general, would be able to brush it off or even flirt back. But most guys must find her hyper-introversion charming because they always seemed to flock to her! 'They must find it funny.' she thought sourly, sipping from her chilled tea. 'They probably think that if Heather's a Manic Pixie Dream Girl, then I'm some sort of introverted Sex Kitten!'

Her table mate's question jarred her out of her stupor, the nature of which made her eyebrows raise and her jaw drop slightly. "Wh-What?!" she sputtered, setting her drink down so she could wave both hands in a flustered manner. "That's totally not necessary! I mean, yeah, it makes me really uncomfortable but it's not like- It wasn't really even all that obscene this time!" she realized that her voice had gotten a tad loud and some of the couple around them were scowling at her for her outburst. Amanda leaned closer, dropping her gaze and lowering her voice to a self conscious whisper. "Thank you, Kaosu, for the offer. It's very sweet. But it's really not necessary."

Heather's response immediately garnered a chuckle out of Kaosu. While he was a trained fighter, he had nearly no predisposition for violence like his sisters did. He preferred to fight with his words over his fists, even though he liked to think he was good with both. Kaosu grinned at Amanda, wishing he was close enough to nudge her in jest. "It wasn't even all that obscene this time? Gods, do men even think when they're trying to flirt with women?" He shook his head disappointedly. He'd been raised to be more of a gentleman towards women and he failed to understand why some thought it was okay to treat women like nothing more than objects.

Speaking a bit softer, understanding that this was a weird subject for AMANDA, Kaosu offered, "Y'know, if it ever is, ah, worse, you can always call me. You really don't deserve to be treated like that." In a lame (and probably failed) attempt to lighten the mood once again, Kaosu asked, "You said you have a twin? Does she deserve to be treated like that? Because-" He stopped himself short with an eyebrow wiggle and a complete s**t-eating grin, knowing she'd probably hit him for the joke in the first place.

Amanda huffed at Kaosu's words, giving him a long suffering look. "Oh, I'm quite certain they're thinking - just not with anything above their shoulders." she said dryly before startling and covering her mouth, eyes wide with shock at what she had just said. What was with her today?! Or maybe it was just Kaosu's influence. Either way, she was experiencing quite a few more slip-ups than usual. Maybe the stress of college was finally getting to her...

Kaosu's change of tone made her blink, hand falling from her mouth to rest on the table as she tilted her head. "Call you?" she asked, her voice disbelieving. He was a stranger. A near perfect stranger. All she knew of him was that he was sarcastic, moody, and had two sisters with magical powers. And yet... "I'll keep that in mind. Though, I'll probably need your number, first. And you should probably drink your coffee before it gets cold." Amanda said, offering him a smile. She was starting to see that her table mate was actually sort of a big softie - a fact she found both charming and amusing.

And then he teased her about her sister. The smile fell from her lips almost as quickly as her eyes narrowed. "No one deserves to be harassed. Especially not my sister." she said coldly, venom dripping from every word as she picked her tea back up and took a sip. She took it back. He was an a**.

Kaosu chuckled at Amanda's response, knowing she didn't mean it to be funny, but unable to keep his reaction in regardless. Amanda was so reserved and sweet it seemed odd to think of her looking at others in that way. Sure, she was gorgeous, in a muted, quiet way - but she just gave off a very innocent image that made the comment seem even stranger than it already was.

Amanda's reaction to him offering his help made him quirk a brow. He hadn't meant it in any way other than friendly, but she seemed to take it as some larger gesture. Not correcting her, he smiled and lifted his coffee to his lips, taking a big sip. He was pleasantly surprised that she followed up with asking for his number. So she was serious about keeping in contact - this was good. He could really use someone around. Kaosu was about to start listing off his number when she snapped at him, a reaction that wasn't completely shocking but nearly made him drop his coffee all the same.

"I, no- Amanda, I didn't mean-" He set his cup down softly, still cringing at the sound it made connecting with the table. Well, this was awkward. "It was a joke, Amanda. It was... a really dumb, silly, frankly awful joke and I'm really sorry. You know I didn't mean it, we just... I thought you'd..." He shook his head, not really sure what to say. His nose was lowered at this point and he dared a peek up at her through his bangs. 'I ******** up. I ******** up I ******** up I actually, really ******** up,' his mind was reeling. "Of course your sister sounds wonderful. If she's half as great as you are, she has to be some kind of otherwordly being." While her tenacity was scary, Kaosu had to admire the way she defended her sister. Sure, they were twins, but he didn't realize they were that close. 'Must be nice,' he thought fleetingly, not daring to sneak another peek at Amanda until she responded.

Anyone that hung out with her and her sister knew that their temperaments were different. Whereas Heather was often admired for her sunny disposition, Amanda was respected for her calm serenity. And, following the same trend, their anger was expressed almost perfectly opposite ends of the spectrum. Heather was a solar flare - brilliant and fiery and often times hurting herself in the process such that she dimmed for several hours afterward in a sulky puddle. Amanda, however, was the opposite. Cold fire. Icy, but it will warm you like the fingers of hypothermia wrapping themselves around your neck. And her anger could burn for days.

The only thing that spared Kaosu from Amanda unleashing her frosty anger was the sincerity of his voice and disposition. She sighed heavily. "Flattery gets you nowhere." she said, frowning slightly at how cold her voice continued to sound. Shoulders slumping, she hesitantly reach out a hand toward him, fingers brushing against his knuckles on the hand that still clutched his coffee. She was tempted to lift his chin or move his hair out of his eyes, but that felt to intimate. "Just... don't say things like that again, okay? Heather means the world to me, and I really don't like people implying rude things about her." she said softly, attempting to sound less, well, incensed.

At the brush of Amanda's fingertips on his, Kaosu felt his face warm. He stiffened a bit, but relaxed rather quickly, understanding that her touch meant at least some semblance of forgiveness. On top of that, her tone was soft, albeit still a bit stern, which led him to believe she didn't complete hate him. That, at least, was reassuring. Kaosu shocked himself with how much he cared about Amanda's opinion of him. The girl meant nothing to him, except... somehow she already did. It was obvious that she was a selfless, caring individual and he needed someone like that in his life. There was no way he would let this girl get away; a good friend was very valuable.

He nodded slightly and glancing up, locking eyes with her. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again, I promise." Taking a deep, stabilizing breath, he smiled weakly at Amanda. "Where is she now? I mean... it sounds like the two of your are really close, so why were you here all alone?" Kaosu tilted his head a bit, genuinely curious. He imagined Heather to be much the same as Amanda, and thus couldn't see why they would ever be separate, especially since they did sound like such great friends. He liked to imagine that if himself, Karahi, and Yukiko were closer they'd be inseparable, so why shouldn't Amanda and her sister be that way as well?

Amanda smiled warmly at the promise, then blinked in surprise at Kaosu's question. She fished out her phone from her backpack, flicking her screen on with a quick flick of a finger to check the time. She realized that he might mock her for her phone case - a teal cat face to match her sister's pink dog - but she just couldn't bring herself to care. She was done being annoyed at him - for now. "She should be in class taking an exam for about another half hour." she said, her eyes looking up from her screen to judge his expression.

"And we're pretty close. We live together, but we're in college for different majors so we have different schedules." Amanda said, shrugging, "Heather also volunteers a lot for a lot of social justice things, though, and I get dragged to them a lot. It's exhausting, but it makes her happy. And that makes me happy." she laughed, shaking her head. Talking about her sister always seemed to put her in a good mood. 'Good luck!' she thought for the second time, praying that Heather's test scores would be far better than her own.

Kaosu was absolutely tempted to tease Amanda for her ridiculous phone case. He poised to say something, but due to recent events, decided to hold his tongue. However, he couldn't quite hide the smirk and playful glint of his eyes. They always seemed to betray him. "Oh, that makes sense!" Kaosu said, nodding. He'd never been one for traditional school, but he couldn't help but envy Amanda and her sister's ravenous class-taking. University had to be an interesting experience.

"Well, if you, uh... ever want to drag someone else along..." he trailed off, a bit hesitant, before he stood up and strode toward the counter. He grabbed a napkin and asked the barista for a pen, leaning on the counter to scribble something down, and handed the pen back to the barista with a grin. Kaosu then came back to the table, smiling a bit at Amanda. "If you ever need company at these events, or... wherever, here's my number." He placed the napkin in front of her and took his seat again. "If not, don't bother, I guess... But shouldn't you be meeting her after her exam to see how it went?" He had enjoyed his rather tumultuous time here with Amanda, but realized it had to end some time. Her sister's availability was a better reason than any for Amanda to extract herself from the encounter. Kaosu tucked his hair behind his ear once more, glancing at Amanda, hoping she'd at least call him some time.

Amanda straightened in her seat when Kaosu got up and walked to the counter, tilting her head to the left when he snatched a napkin and weaseled a pen from the barista. The barista who looked a little sheepish now that he'd seen that Amanda hadn't been as 'free' as he'd thought. She allowed herself a little swell of victory, hiding a smug smile by taking a sip from her tea. 'Maybe I should hang out with guys more often if it keeps the creepers at bay.' she thought, snorting at herself. Yeah, right. If her conversation with Kaosu was anything to go by, most guys would be scared off by her crazy. 'He wasn't, though...'

And then suddenly Kaosu was back at their table, placing the brown napkin down on the table in front of her. She studied it, noting the flamboyant curls of his handwriting - his phone number and the note to 'text me!'. She jerked slightly when he addressed her again, noting that he had become flustered by her shocked silence. "Oh! I, uh, I'll definitely call you! Or text you. Is texting better?" she stuttering, fiddling with the edges of the napkin. She blinked at his question, habitually checking her phone's lock screen. No excited texts from Heather yet, and still a good 15 minutes before she had to go. "Ah, we're meeting up at the apartment - for dinner." she said, offering him a smile, "And she'll definitely tell me how it went. In fact, I might be an ear short next time we meet up!" She giggled at her own quip, looking down at her phone so she could add his number to a new contact.

Kaosu smiled, realizing that she completely forgave him (or so it seemed) for his earlier transgressions. At least for now, she did. And it twisted a pit in his stomach to realize how much that mattered to him. Although, he did suppose he had been without friends for so long that it wasn't exactly surprising that he'd forgotten what their reassurance and presence really meant, how good it felt. He chuckled a bit, watching her eye his handwriting. "Growing up with two sisters more 'manly' than me, can you imagine how much I got tortured for that?" It was a bit embarrassing that he had "pretty" handwriting, but he'd gotten over it. Some people even found it endearing, in a strange sort of way.

At her question, Kaosu nodded, perhaps a bit too fervently. "Texting's fine! That's beyond perfect if, uh, you ever want to hang out." He made a quick mental note to start carrying his phone with him from now on. If he wanted to maintain a relationship with anyone in his life, that was probably pretty important in the first place. He laughed at her joke a beat too late, taking longer than he really should have to understand. Kaosu blushed a bit, realizing his mind was in a thousand places at once. "Dinner sounds like fun! I'm gonna have to run to the store after we leave here and make something for myself..." Rambling, he was recalling what was in his apartment and could only list off junk foods. He hadn't eaten something of substance in weeks and figured he should probably get on that some time soon. He glanced up at Amanda through thick hair once more and added in, "If you wanna try that texting thing out, let me know how your-- Heather did on her exam later?" Halfway through the sentence he remembered the actual name of her sister and decided to slide it in to make sure she knew he paid attention... at least somewhat.

Amanda smiled indulgently when Kaosu attempted to maintain his dignity whilst having a rather effeminate writing style. "Oh? I can't imagine how your penmanship would be the only cause for your sisters' teasing." she said, hiding a grin behind her cup. Being snarky with one another was what friends did, right? Were she and Kaosu friends? He'd given her his number and she'd promised to text or call him later - in fact, they'd meet up later. Planning outings was friendly?? Oh, dang, it had been way too long since she had friends outside of her sister.

She shook herself out of her stupor in time to nod her head at his statement of texting him later so they could hang out. Amanda realized that he'd taken a while to laugh her joke - 'Maybe it wasn't as funny as I thought? Oh, it must be a pity-laugh then!!' - and offered him a sheepish smile. "Well, if you're ever feeling lonely or want to spend an evening watching my sister attempt speak and eat at the same time, let me know. We generally make WAY too much for the two of us." she said, flushing horribly when she realized what she'd just implied. "N-Not that I think you're lonely! It's just, um, if you want to!" She was thankful for the distraction of a whole troupe of high school girls entering the cafe, speaking far too loudly and adding significantly to the din of the shop.

Amanda took that as her heaven-given cue. She stood, draping her scarf around her neck and scooping up her bag. It was just that moment that she received a flurry of texts from her twin - all with a horrible amount of emojis, but that quirk was endearing at this point. She shook her vibrating phone at Kaosu, still flushed and shy from her previous statement. "Duty calls! Or, er, texts I suppose.", Amanda said, realizing belatedly that to an outside viewer, she might seem to have a telepathic link to her sister given that she'd started getting ready to leave just as her phone was about to start buzzing. It was just coincidence, of course, but the idea amused her on some level.

She gave her table-mate one last smile. "Wish me luck. I'll warn you - her enthusiasm or depression might kill me tonight, and you're the last one who saw me alive. So, if I don't text you later, be a dear and notify the authorities?" With that (and perhaps a coy wink?), she turned on her heel and left the shop - walking for a good block and a half out of sight from the cafe before covering her mouth to stifle a giggle. Oh, dear, that had been awful!! She was still giddy when she looked at her phone to actually read her sister's messages.

Needless to say, Kaosu would later get a text that read 'Her professors are far more kind than mine. Multiple choice for a math test???'
