Darn. She was hoping he wouldn't pick up on that. She should have realized he would, though. Pavlov was much smarter than he acted some days. "Well, mistakes happen," she conceded. "No one's perfect. But think how boring it would be if everyone was! And besides, we haven't made any major mistakes yet. And," she added, quickly, "I doubt we will. Have I ever led you wrong, Pav?"

Pavlov lifted his eyebrows and leveled his pale blue eyes on his mate, "There was that one time you insisted that I try going in the lake..."

"And I got you out again before the current took you too far," she quickly rushed to remind him. She did NOT mention the fact that he would have been fine if he hadn't panicked when he thought he saw some sort of sea monster stalking him. He had no control over what he saw.

Pavlov cringed and shuttered against the memory of freezing water and the slick feel of a tentacle wrapping around his hoof. He put his nose again on the basket, first the orange one then the black one and sent a quick prayer up to any spirits that may be listening, maybe even Astrid herself, that the souls within these baskets would not suffer under the taint that seemed to rule his life.

Zahavah turned her attention from their little baskets to Pavlov. She nuzzled him gently, careful not to stab him with her horns. Those things were sharp, and she didn't want to hurt him. "It's gonna be okay, y'know," she reassured him. "You were afraid for Akis and Addy, and they turned out fine. I know you're still worried about them, but y'know what? That's normal. Parents worry about their kids all the time." Well, she didn't. She loved her daughters with all her heart, but she didn't worry about them. She knew they had raised their girls right, and that Akis and Addy could handle anything that came at them. They were Zahavah's daughters, after all. "These baskets are the best of both of us."

The stallion offered a weak smile, "If they are only the best parts, I wonder what part of me they have?"

"Oh, that's easy," Zahavah grinned a bit. "Your kindness and generosity." Pavlov was without a doubt the sweetest, kindest, gentleness soq she had ever met. It was why she had invested so much time in protecting him from those who would hurt or try to take advantage of him.

"Kindness," Pavlov echoed. He had not really reflected upon himself and considered any volume of kindness. He only knew of his fear and desperation. "I simply hope that they have your courage," he replied quietly. Perhaps that would be enough to protect them if anything happened or if they were cursed with his...legacy.

She grinned. "I'm sure they will," she said, confidently. "And if they're not born with it, I'll teach it to them." She would be getting them young enough, after all. She was convinced that she was making progress with Pavlov, but it was harder to teach an adult how to change his world view than to teach a young creature who HAD no world view.

"You have proven yourself to be an excellent teacher," he said quietly. "Our oldest...they are practically fearless."

She nodded, proudly. "And these two will be, also," she said with confidence. She settled down so she could curl around both the baskets. It was easier to do so with these mini baskets than it had been with Akis and Addy when they were so small.
