Mimi fell silent, as if seeming to ponder Chel's word. She opened her mouth as if to say something, then closed it. A moment after, she looked up again, and decided to ask. "Um... if I may be so bold... can I ask how you got them?" She hoped she wasn't prying (well, she supposed she already was by asking), but curiousity got the better of her, and she did want to hear more about Chel's heroic tales.
Chel's explanation of the runics were extremely fascinating though, and she couldn't help staring at the runified gameboy with awe. It was like... a magic artifact! So many neat things to learn~ "Ooh, I see! Is it hard to make things runic? What's the island shield? What do you have to do to make it runic?" All the questions~

"A shark bit my face off." It wasn't the truth, but it also wasn't probable that Mimi was going to get the truth. Chel told a different story every time she was asked, simply because she'd been asked so many times.
As for the runics- "One question at a time, sweet pea!" she told the girl with a gentle smile. "

Unfortunately Mimi didn't understand sarcasm, and gasped in horror. "Quelle horreur! What a mean, mean shark." She patted Chel's hand in sympathy.
Her face flushed at having been too enthusiastic. She didn't realize she was proably asking too many questions at once. At the mention of life gophers though, Mimi's eyes instantly lit up. Magic animals? Like... familiars? or summons? Deus truly was a magical place~
"How does one get money for runics? Do all hunters work part-time jobs?" She wondered what sort of part-time job Chel-senpai would have. It would probably be the most epic part-time job ever. Like... punching sharks. Maybe that's how she got her scars. Yes that made sense.

"Oh yeah. Meanest shark," she exaggerated. "You gotta be careful in those deus waters." She snorted a laugh and patted the girl's head in return.
Her eyes narrowed at Mimi's next questions. "You get monthly pay man. They pay you for the s**t you do here. Y'won't have it for a while but we even get time off sometimes. Y'can use the portals 'n go ******** around on Earth for a while. S'pretty fun once you get some friends." Although Chel wasn't one to talk when she hadn't been off island for ages. She hated being babysat.[A.V.] omg magic gophers im dyin

Oh! She had totally forgotten they were on an island, and island meant... water. Mimi nodded, fully intending to follow Chel's advice. She didn't want to get her face bitten off. That sounded scary... and dangerous. :C
While she knew swimming in open waters was dangerous, she totally didn't know they were getting paid. They were being trained to be superheroes AND they get paid? Sugoiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. Then again, you got loot by beating up monsters in rpgs and turning in quests, so... this was like the same thing, right? And as if things couldn't get any better, they apparently even had portals?? Mimi wanted to cry. She was truly living in a beautiful fantasy world.
"That sounds so neat!!! Can you go ANYWHERE with these portals? Can you even go to different planets??"

Chel looked moderately concerned for the girl. She looked between crying and exploding with joy at the same time. Maybe it was her way of coping?
"Anywhere that gets a signal yeah. S'more life jargon I don't understand. But pretty much anywhere in the world thas covert yeah." As in, you couldn't portal into the middle of a crowded shopping mall. That'd be bad. "Different planets no! The ******** you think this is, Star Wars?"
Though honestly, the comparison wasn't a terrible one.

It was probably quite clear by now that Mimi was a very expressive person. That, or completely unstable. Expressively unstable.
"Signal?" Oooh, kinda like cellphone reception. This was a concept Mimi hadn't thought about. In the games she played, portals were maintained magic and... runes? Hmm, Deus did have runes, though she guess in real life, it probably made more sense that electricity and stuff seemed more practical. At least, just a bit. After all, they did have magic weapons with magic powers!
Her weapon let out an exasperated sigh.
Mimi only stared at Chel, and tilted her head. "It's not?"

Chel gave Mimi and incredulous look with a single raised eyebrow. "No it ain't Star Wars. ********' real life." Had Mimi come here under the guise of escape? Deus was the farthest thing from an escape, in Chel's mind.
"But yeah, signal. Sometimes portals don't pop up places, sometimes they pop up where they ain't supposed to. S'why we have pendants to get us out of s**t quick rather than waitin' for some portal."

Well, truth be told, Mimi had totally thought Deus was some sort of hero/heroine training camp. They had kickass weapons, badass gear, and awesome senpais!!! There was nothing normal about Deus. If this was real life, then... then... where had this been all her life?
"Oooh, so it's possible for portals to have malfunctions..." It only seemed logical. "Are there certain places they're not supposed to pop up? And... what are pendants?" She looked down at her own pendant, which looked more like a brooch than a pendant. Did everyone get magical teleporting pendants also?

"Anythin' can break given enough time," Chel said somewhat wisely.
She looked at the pendant and shook her head. "Nah, s'like big chunky grey things with blue symbols on 'em. Y'get 'em when y'go off island and s**t. S'for teleportin' back to deus in a pinch- they'll probably tell you 'bout 'em later."
Mimi was particularly curious and Chel liked talking. There was a sideways grin as she leaned back on the couch, fingers laced neatly behind her head. "Anythin' else I can answer?"

Hmm... that was true. Mimi nodded at Chel's sage advice.
She scrunched up her face as she tried to imagine what Chel had described. "Ooh! Like... glowy space rocks?" But wait, if they were space rocks, then how come they couldn't teleport into space? Maybe it was because it didn't automatically teleport you with a space suit? And she supposed wearing one all the time was somewhat inconvenient. It was probably safer not to accidentally teleport yourself into space and suffocate. So many mysterious things~
Mimi would have pondered this strange loophole more, but Chel was asking if she had any more questions. Oh gosh oh gosh she must think of more questions!! More questions for Chel-senpai!!!
"U-um, I know there are different divisions, and there are five... I think... but I don't know too well what each of them do. A-and, I know you're my senpai, but... I heard each division has their own sensei..." Hmm... was it sensei or taichou? "Oh! Um, sensei means 'teacher'. Or I guess maybe leader is more accurate. I guess I just wanted to know what the sun division leader is like. Have you met them?"

Chel winced at Mimi's description, but nodded hesitantly. If she wanted to think of pendants as glowy space rocks, that wasn't really hurting anyone. As long as she understood what they did and how to use them, it didn't really matter what she called them, so Chel let Mimi delusion herself.
"The sun leader?" Chel blinked in surprised. Not an unusual question, but not one she'd thought she'd have to answer. "Well he got orange hair and he's pretty peppy ... uses a lot 'ah words I don't get. Good guy though. Heard he's a serious threat on the field, never seen it myself though."
She shrugged, looking back at Mimi. "That do it for you?"

Mimi gasped as Chel confirmed her suspicions. Why did she wince though? Were they... explosive space rocks? Maybe they were radioactive. Like... like kryptonite! So many neat and dangerous things on Deus. If she ever came across one, she would be sure to ask Chel on how to properly use it. Wouldn't want to accidentally blow herself up!
She gasped again at Chel's description on the sun lead, eyes twinkling. "Oh! Like Hinata! Or Ichigo! Or.. or..." Hmm. Ichigo seemed more grumpy than preppy, but he was nice guy deep down and was really strong, and Hinata was funny. Oh, there was Leo too! Mimi tried to rack her brain for more orange-haired anime boys but she couldn't think of any more at the moment.
"Yes! Um... How about the other divisions? Do you know what they're like?" She totally wasn't going to classify them all according to anime characters nope.

Chel didn't know Hinata or Ichigo, but she shrugged in a "who knows what you're talking about but sure" kind of way. No reason to rain on Mimi's parade.
"Other divisions?" Chel put a hand on her chin. "Never seen none of the moon people. Heard Mist's dude is in a chair or somethin'? Never seen them neither. Life's got Dr. H I think- he's pretty good lookin', but that's all I know." What she knew of H was only the snippets she'd garnered from when Jack rarely mentioned him. "Death's got uhh- Mark he's the assitant. Real cool guy. Caelius ... I dunno one time I got called to his place an' he had a dude on a leash. It was weird. Maybe I just had bad timing or somethin'."
Chel shrugged, waiting for the girl's response.

"Hmm..." Mimi rubbed her chin with a hand, seemingly in deep thought. A wheelchair? Hmm, she couldn't think of many male characters in wheelchairs... except... "Mamoru!" She shouted out loud. "And Ken!" The Megaman games were hard but fun, and Ace Attorney! Even though she was terrible at the Phoenix Wright games, they were still awesome. There was also Madame Suliman from Howl's Moving Castle, and Kagari from Black Rock Shooter, so judging from those characters, she considered the Mist lead to be really nice deep down.
As for doctor, hmm... there were just so many! Though they seemed more like the mad scientist category or professors... She'd get back to that one.
Caelius and Mark perked her interests though, as there was no set category for them (at least, not enough information to form one) and she gave Chel a curious look. "Caelius had a dude on a leash?"
