 [as they come] [523 words]
It was truly impressive, Galaxite thought, to see how much Marialite had grown. When they'd brought her into the Negaverse, she'd been miserable, defeated, broken; now, she was confident, and had easily leapt into battle at his side. It would be a different matter to see her in a fight on her own, but that could come later. He wasn't exactly eager to just...let her go charging in, not when she was his responsibility and his tiny, delicate princess. There was no way he wanted to put her in a position where she might get hurt. Perhaps when she or he had a real, proper weapon...but for now, a Nerf bow and a prism wouldn't do much to protect either of them against an actual Senshi opponent, and he knew that as good as he felt about their victory, they'd won it at least halfway because they were fighting together, not separately. On his own he might have struggled to deal with the Senshi's shields; with Marialite he'd been forced to choose. That sort of thing always improved the odds.
Watching her skip ahead on the way home, he couldn't help but smile. She was practically vibrating with excitement over the victory, and Galaxite couldn't help but be proud of her. Yes, it hadn't been all on her own, but she'd taken instruction well, had only stepped in when requested, and had been smart and thought on her feet. There were some things he wanted to go over with her--she could stand to practice her punches, and not just rely on cheer kicks--but that could be for later. For now, they could meander home with the knowledge that they'd won in a real engagement against a real Senshi. Galaxite couldn't say he'd done that before; his fight against Erytheia had been something of a tie, something of a loss, since the Page had escaped from his grasp.
That had been frustrating and unfortunate; Galaxite had been so delighted at the possibility of bringing another Cosmos Knight into the Negaverse. Ah well, not everyone would be like Marialite, and choose the correct path. Some other officer would take care of Erytheia, someday.
This was something he'd have to keep in mind,. It was obvious, of course, that they were more effective together than apart, but it was fascinating how neatly their tangle with that Senshi had illustrated it. Galaxite wished he'd gotten a name, but there hadn't exactly been time to ask; perhaps they'd run into each other later and he'd find out then. For the moment, the Senshi was an unnamed, mystery opponent, and one they'd beaten.
When they got home, they'd have to tell Salem about it. Surely he'd be pleased with the easy victory, with no serious injuries to either of them, even if Galaxite was aching a little from the hits the Sensih had managed to land. They'd clear up soon enough, and then he could get back to serving the Negaverse feeling just that little bit more useful.
Sometimes you had to take whatever victories you could, but not tonight. Tonight, they'd won.
