It'd been a week since she'd impressed to Kynigoth, the young dragonet had proved more then a handful when it came to taking care of her. Blinking her eyes, Kalendol looked towards the sky where she sat. The gentle churning of waves lulled her and she instinctively set her hand on Kynigoth's head. The young dragonet was curled up around her, her head on the teen's lap. When the hand touched her however, the dragonet blinked her faceted golden eyes up at her rider. <Mine? Why is there water in your eyes?> The young green asked, cocking her head slowly as she looked up at her rider.
"Hm?" Kynigoth asked, and blinked her eyes as she looked down at the dragonet. She hadn't been aware of the tears rolling down her cheeks. Sorry, Kyni, just had a moment. Everything is fine. The girl thought as she stroked her dragon's chin. The dragonet purred in response and then rose her head, looking towards where the sun was beginning to set. It's beautiful, isn't it, Kynigoth? Kalendol asked the dragon.
The young creature glanced towards her rider, <What is so beautiful about the Red Star setting? It's just another day. No secrets to be told.> The dragonet huffed and shook her head.
Kynigoth, Kalendol smiled, there is beauty everywhere. You don't need secrets for something to be beautiful. Besides, this is our first setting we've seen together. Don't you think that is magical? The seventeen turn old asked her dragonet with a chipper grin.
The dragonet grumbled, but then looked to the red star as it touched the water, a glowing reddish color shining around the sky and bouncing from the water. <Is this what humans do then?> The dragonet asked.
Sometimes, when there is time. But let's just watch it together, Kyni. Our first sunset. The teen smiled. After a moment, the dragonet huffed and looked at the sun, but as she did, her body started to relax and once again she lay her verdant head down, allowing her rider to relax as well. <It is peaceful...> She sighed.
Kalendol smiled and looked at the sun, Come on, let's go home before it gets too dark. She spoke to the creature and rose to her feet. <Coming, mine.> Kynigoth responded and the pair walked side by side on their way towards the weyrling barracks.

A lot had happened in the span of six months. Kynigoth had shot to double the size she'd been at her hatching. She was now getting into trouble every time Kalendol turned her back. She didn't know what to do with the dragonet who seemed to have a knack for trouble. But, when she'd received the little green flit belonging to her eldest brother and spied the letter attached she frowned deeply. What would she do? Caelestis was a problem, especially since he was visiting when threadfall was falling more frequently and everyone in the weyr was on high alert.
Walking down the bowl, she re-read the letter from her brother for the hundredth time that day. A bronze dragon belonging to one of the wings snapped at her as she passed, not paying any mind to those around her as thoughts plagued her. <Watch it, weyrling!> The dragon grumbled irritably before he took flight and removed himself. Kalendol, briefly snapped from her daze just sighed. Everyone was on edge lately. Thread fell more consistently these past sevendays and it was everything she could do to keep her mind focused.
Nearing the barracks, she stumbled back as a massive green reared up before her. <Sorry, weyrling, I didn't see you, did I hurt you?> The green craned her neck to see over her shoulders, her faceted eyes swirling with worry. "No, miss. No harm done." Kalendol spoke kindly, bowing her head to the older dragon before trotting off to find her own green.
Soon, she came across Kynigoth, sitting with a couple of older greens, and several blues. They were talking softly to one another, and through the bond Kalendol heard snippets of the conversation. <Honestly, dragonet, you'll find that when you take flight it is the most fun in the world!> One green trumpeted.
<Please, don't listen to her. It's all about the fighting young one.> Another scoffed, shaking her dark hide as her head flung back in silent laughter. <She is right though. Flights are the best thing.>
<You only like flirting.> A darker blue grunted, shaking his head. Kalendol frowned, dragons sure did have weird conversations. "Excuse me for intruding, but may I borrow my Kynigoth please?" She asked politely, blinking at the larger creatures.
<By all means. Take the runt!> The darkest blue snorted, somewhat grumpily. <He means no harm, mine. He's just grumpy cause he wasn't able to fly after the green over there.> Her dragonet chirped before rising and trotting after her. The dragons behind them gave a chorus of laughter, much to the horror of the dark blue.
Kynigoth, my brother will be here today; did you forget? She asked her dragonet who suddenly froze. <Mine, I beg your pardon. I did forget that today was the day of your brother's coming. How could I have been so foolish.> The dragonet lowered her head hastily and shook it, her eyes spinning with sadness.
It's fine, come on or we'll be late. Kalendol frowned a little but she and Kynigoth made good time in seeking the outside of the weyr well before her brother was seen.
"Oh Kalendol!" A feminine voice begot a lithe looking man with feminine features. "It's a pleasure to see you, darling!" The man cried and immediately wrapped his arms around her. Kalendol grimaced, but fondly hugged her brother either way.
"Hello, Caelestis. So good to see you again."
<Mine, did you know your brother is gay? He likes to find tunnelsnakes and keep them as pets. Oh! Last sevenday he scared your father using a tunnelsnake in his boot.> The dragonet chirped out secrets that Kalendol indeed had not known.
"Er, well this is Kynigoth." Kalendol smiled, waving towards her dragonet. Kynigoth hummed softly and approached in all her splendid grandeur.
"My she is lovely, sister. Onto more pressing matters. Take me to a place where we can eat and talk. I have so much to tell you!" Cael spoke, rushing his younger sister into Benden with a flourish of his coat.
<Mine... uhm... this man is weird. Oh! And he is moving to Benden.> Kynigoth pried.
Kalendol squeaked and pulled away from her brother, "He's doing what?!"

Kalendol looked up from the letter, having scanned it briefly for signs of misprint that would imply she had to rewrite the whole thing. Glancing towards her right, she noticed that Kynigoth had sat up and was now watching her with her golden gaze searching. <Mine, you seem distressed. Is something wrong?> The dragon questioned, cocking her massive head to the side as she gazed at her young rider.
'I am well, Kynigoth, don't worry. How was your nap?' She returned, blinking her eyes as she rolled up the letter and placed it within her side bag. The dragon, now growing larger each day, stretched and gave a heavy yawn. <I dreamed I was flying high in the sky, and that there were suitors clamoring for my attention. It was an intriguing dream. Though, I still have some time before it is reality. Afterall, we're still weyrlings.> She lifted her front foot and spread her toes in order to press her teeth gently onto one. <I do believe I need a good scrub, mine. Before some burrowing creature mistakes my feet for homes.> The green snorted and looked at her rider.
Kalendol smiled a little, sliding from her seat and approaching the dragon with a small tender embrace, 'Alright, let's go get you cleaned up and oiled.' At that moment she thanked her brother Caelestis for showing up out of the blue. Being a vintner had it's perks for the man apparently; he'd already doubled Kalendol's usual allowance, and bought Kynigoth a lovely smelling canister of oil. The oil was high class certainly, more expensive than Kalendol would've been able to afford on her own. 'I'm assuming you'd like Cael's oil?' She asked her companion.
The dragon merely scoffed, as though the question was so ridiculous, the answer should've been clear. 'I'll take that as a yes.' Kalendol chuckled as the pair continued walking towards the lake, were most dragons went to be groomed, and have a good time. <Oh look mine, the grumpy tunnelsnake is here!> Chimed the dragon privately as her eyes burned into the brown Langoneth, a choice enemy to her very mind. 'Well, we'll avoid him, alright?' Kalendol sighed, shaking her head. Although, Jikkiri was Jamarin's brother, Kalendol could not bring herself to experience the same thing as the last time Kynigoth and Langoneth were together. Things had got rather out of hand.
So, Kalendol set to work with her dragon, feeding her tidbits of meat every so often and enjoying the sun beating upon her. But, happiness cannot last in the world of thread, and soon, it began to fall with a fierce determination to destroy. Kynigoth roared her dislike, spreading her wings and rearing onto her hind legs as the larger, older, dragons took wing. She despised being grounded. Though, Langoneth was worse off, his anger at being on the ground causing him to become savage towards anyone other than his.
Kynigoth snarled her dislike, shoving her rider backwards as she tried to jump into the air. The time to fly and fight, was soon at hand. Kalendol stared in horror as her dragon fought to take flight, her heart pounded in her chest, and tears filled her eyes once more. Fighting thread was coming too soon.
