 "It only helps me sleep at night.." The sound of utter disappointment as he wished his eyes to stay open. But cuddling close to him and draping his head over those arms. He couldn't help but fall asleep. Never really having that luxury of someone not taking advantage of his defenseless and sick game he often played when giving a stranger to trust over him while he slept. It was the first time he really did sleep...
The first night... he dreamed again.
The nightmares for once have escaped him.
The first he had woken up without fear in his veins that someone would hurt him. Someone did something to him. This time.. he woke up. Eyes slitting first.. He'd slept for hours. It wasn't til the sun peaked over the log and straight in to his eyes, was when he awoke... Moving his eyes, he saw the position he was in. The male beside him hadn't moved away.. nor closer. He wasn't in some awkward position nor in entrapped by his capture. Innocence... He'd forgotten what that was. Beside him, he didn't even feel shame. He didn't feel disguised with himself or the other, but a warmth. Leaving him to stare at the sleeping male.. He almost longed to keep the image in his head.
Comfort in the most innocent way. Without the splitting head ache.
Slowly he lifted himself up, but not before nuzzling a little in to the other's arm once more. It was the gesture of longing for something... that emptiness he was trying to fill. A soft smile came over him, the most tender before he wiggled his way out of the tight den. Looking around his surroundings with one eye open.
For thanks, he had to do something. Hopefully, the ulaya didn't wake up soon. With that being said. The dark ulaya made his way around. Looking for berries... Since, there wasn't anyone quick enough to catch something to eat in the meat scale. Scavenging until finally he did find something. Berries! Of the purple and green kind! A preening smile painted on his face and a wiggle to his tail as he snatched it in his maw and started pulling. Then his eyes opened. Then he pulled again. Still within his maw. He backed up just a little then pulled with all his might!!!!!!!!!
Til finally the roots snapped and he was sent flying backwards with a thump!
On his back with the berries in his maw.. He started laughing to himself as he rolled on his stomach and started on his way back. Shaking his face from the excess dirt. When finally he came in to the small clearing where the fallen tree was. He SHOULD have immediately seen the male. Maybe the den was deeper than he thought. Walking up to it..
Ears went back as he placed the berries down in front of the den..
Maybe.. he left...?
'I guess ... he was just my dream..' He kept starring until it finally hit home. The painful feeling of being alone again. That feeling had already nearly killed him before. Multiple times.
His breath choked up as he tried to take in air and swallow hard before turning tail with disappoint in all his features.

Xiang lay awake a while longer as Tone drifted off to dreaming. He watched what of the sky he could see, ever lightening, from black to deep blue and the stars winking out one by one as the sun rose. Although he couldn't see it from where he lay, he could still feel the change the sun brought as it oh so slowly rose. There was a sense in the air, the wood came alive with bird song, ice cracked and snow dripped from branches.
Eventually he did fall asleep, trading warmth with the young ulaya that lay beside him. His thoughts turned to Tone just before sleep fell over his mind like a thick blanket and he wondered what this chance meeting would bring. If Tone would even stick around upon waking.
Xiang slept peaceful, he didn't dream.
The warmth of the sun cradled him and when it touched upon him he woke. Tone was gone, and Xiang wasn't sure how he felt about that. The ground and his side where the youth had laid was still warm, he hadn't been gone long.
When Tone turned to leave after dropping the berry bush at the mouth of the den. Xiang was standing right there. He hadn't gone far, just a quick flight to the treetop to greet the sun and warm his face in its light. He'd landed as quiet as he could and stood silent as Tone looked into the makeshift den.
"Good morning, Tone, although it is well afternoon now."

His heart dropped in to his stomach, but what did he really expect from someone he met while plastered and high off of his rocker. The only thing he could feel was.. that pain. He was stupid to even think otherwise- then when he turned. He was met with a bright and glowing chest. Then slightly looked up only to see the one he'd been looking for. "KYYYAAA!!!" He jumped back and almost snapped. "WHERE DID YOU COME FROM!?!?!?!?" Then he lowered himself. "Ah.. Um..." Tossing his head aside filled with embarrassed me. Thanking the gods for dark fur. "I .. brought you some.. snack. Just.. Didn't want to...... be rude. Or.. anything.." The more he spoke, the more he just wanted to die of embarrassment.
"Is this your real home?" He slightly looked up.. if he had brought him to his real home.. He wouldn't know what to do! 'Why.. did he come back anyways.. ' His tail lowered and his ears were already lowered and with every word he was getting lower til he was almost on the ground. Visibly showing the berry bush he pulled for him.

Xiang folded his wings tightly against his back, in the bright light of day he didn't glow brightly as he did the night before, the sun's brilliance overshadowing, like it did the moon, like it did anything else that cast its own light. It was still cold and the snow lay thick on the ground, Tone's tracks leading away and coming back were all that marred the white but for where Xiang took a step back and then forward, toward Tone and the den they'd shared.
"Above," he glanced up, a branch overhead still sway slightly. "I didn't mean to startle you, Tone." Xiang was teasing, but he hid it within the tone of his voice, smiling knowingly at the youth.
"Head up when you speak, if you please, you're not addressing the ground." Xiang walked past Tone to inspect the berries, there was enough for them to share a nice little breakfast, unless Tone planned to make his escape now.
"This is not my home, I range all over the island and settle down when night falls wherever I find that is comfortable. It was coincidence that we met..." his voice sounded like wondering as he trailed off, but smiled at Tone as he continued,"or fate. Call it whatever you like." Xiang chuckled and settled at the mouth of the den, the berry bush between them. "But do join me, I'm sure that is not too much to ask?"

His eyebrows frowed as he tried to grasp exactly what happened. No. This wasn't a dream. Ok, reality just got a bit kinder then. "Pfft.. If you can count me being surprised as a startle." He huffed, but his embarrassment didn't waiver. Then he was given orders. Wait.. Orders? He quickly straighten his back and lifted his head as if to attention. Why... did he just listen to this stranger. Blinking.. His eyes soon followed him after his initial shock of being so responsive.
When he spoke, he followed the ulaya, his natural grace was something Tone could admire behind behind. It was a coincidence, right. But something else if one was taking care of another. Tone, was on the receiving end this time with at a loss for words because he knew what happened. The cold bringing in some shivers. He was being invited in? For once, that meant something happy. Not something that could twist and turn for the worse.
"Fate sounds better." He gave a nervous smile.. then slowly picked up the bush and walked cover to him to close the gap. Although he wouldn't outwardly say it. Anything to feel warm was on his to do list. Placing the brush between Xiang's forearms before he lowered himself and looked straight in to Xiang's eyes. He was beautiful enough to warrant looking away yet again. "Traveling must be fun.. any cool places? Anywhere but here." His eyes glancing over at Xiang but he just couldn't keep eye contact for too long or he'd be even more self conscious than he already was. The snow was cold on his belly and the afternoon was bright still, he could hunt if Xiang wanted something more, but he couldn't help but want to serve. That was the teachings deeply engraved to him. Making others happy and comfortable.

"I would count your scream as you being startled," Xiang countered, still teasing with a haughty air, this youth was too cute to not tease. Xiang was just a little outwardly pleased when Tone snapped to attention after his words, continuing to smile at him.
When Xiang settled down inside the den again, one wing was lifted, that same silent invitation as he'd used before. Of course you may sit with me, but I won't ask again.
At Tone's words, another chuckle escaped from Xiang, just soft, that smile the youth sported... So he was that type, it seemed fitting. "As you wish."
The moment came when Tone brought the bush closer and setting it between his forearms, looked directly into his eyes, even if it was only a moment, the contact was steady and Xiang didn't laugh or tease now, even his breath caught, until Tone looked away.
A shake of his wings to settle them shook Xiang's head clear and he lift his chin to answer, slipping back into conversation. "Cool places, and warm ones as well," again he was teasing, he knew what Tone meant. "As I said, I range all over, I have seen much of our island, but not all of it, and sometimes when I return to a previous favorite spot it has become much different than it was when I saw it last."

It's as if he had felt like he knew him, all over again. Maybe from a dream or some past life. The invitation had been a welcomed surprise, and bowed his head in acknowledgement. After serving the warm beast, only then would he make himself comfortable. "Surprised~" He remarked after him.
After getting caught up with him, and his words. He went in, and backed up into the other's wing space. The den was so small, how they were able to fit was beyond him. Wiggling in, and he didn't mind the closeness. It was much more comfortable then the cold that had whisked through the land.
Taking in the closeness they shared and self consciously purred. Catching himself at the end of it then made a huffy face. To try and hide the fact.
"Im only interested in being warm at night. Maybe if I traveled- out of this damned place. Maybe I might have a favorite spot or two. Don't know if you've come back to this same spot multiple times but this place is like a sink hole.. just drowns you here." Looking over at him. "Well.. I guess you don't have that problem with your wings huh. Must be nice being a like a bird. Flying away.. Any chance you have a backrow seat for me." A breathless chuckle. Obviously joking.

"I suppose I should not discount your enthusiasm. Surprised, then." Xiang nods, conceding at last, still smiling at the back and forth. He chuckles lightly when he notices Tone purring and even more so when Tone notices and stops. That huffy face is completely adorable. Xiang has already teased Tone so much, he says nothing on the fact or the face, bumping himself against Tone lightly though and purring a little bit himself. Nothing wrong with being happy or content.
"Oh, is that how it is? I'm afraid I haven't spent a lot of time here," he gestured with his head, off in the distance where was a mountain, perhaps it could be seen though the bare trees.
"I was above the valley yesterday." Xiang gave a shrug. "I understand what it feels like to be stuck. Even with these wings. You don't need a pair of your own to travel. Just point yourself in a direction and go, although if you did need a lift..." Xiang gave Tone a once over, as if guessing at how hard it would be to lift him. "I'd say it is a possibility." He gave a little smile, even if Tone was joking he might have been serious, it wasn't easy to tell.

"I'm sure." A light growl. And he was, sure that Xi was teasing him. He rolled around so his back was to the ground and he could have an eased view of Xi's face. "I don't remember if you told me your name. But you call me by mine so often~ " Lifting his paw up to his face, but not touching it. He was almost afraid to. "I feel like we met.. before. Maybe I'm just weird. Some deja vu~"
Then he moved his paw against his chest with the other. Closing his eyes, to hear and feel everything better.
"Maybe I'm scared to leave.. Or had no real reason, drive to leave but wings would be easier, stretch them far... pick up hotties on the way." Opening one eye, and lifting a brow as well.
"I wonder how many you pick up like that. I don't mind being one, I may need more than a lift though." Chuckling. "In your travels- do you know of somewhere, where there is music all the time.. Not this place. Someplace further away. Like an escape of sorts."

"Xiang. I did introduce myself last night, but you were clearly in no fit state to remember it. Perhaps that is why you feel as if we have met before. Your toxins and your funny drinks clouding your perception of things." It didn't matter to him what this star dusted young man did with his evenings, and so Xiang's tone didn't pass judgement as his words might seem.
Maybe they had met in a former life, if that was the case Tone had as much of an advantage as Xiang did, Xi didn't remember previous lives clearly like this. As it was, Xiang lifted an arm and draped it over Tone's chest, lightly leaning on the youth, he plucked up a berry and brought it to his lips, waiting for those rainbow eyes to open once more before offering it. A smirk was found when Tone squinted an eye at him, Xiang ate the berry himself before plucking another from the winter withered branch, a moment to ponder an answer.
"I wonder how many. It can't be all that much or they're be more fireflies come summer, I should think." He grinned, that was all the answer that Tone was going to get on that subject. As for the other. "Somewhere where there's music all the time?"
... A drawn out moment of contemplative silence and Xiang spoke as if wondering aloud. "I know of music. A voice crying out. Lyrics. Lost and Lonely. Individuals, yes, but a place? For all my travels, Tone, I do not remember such a place. Whether or not it exists I cannot say. I don't know everything there is to know about our island, so I won't say it's not out there for you to find."

"Are you sure.. I think I need more- So I can trip over you a few more times." He smiled. When Xi's paw touched him, he put his own on top of his. "So there were too many eh..~" He chuckled some more, thinking of himself in his position, he'd tap everyone he could because it didn't matter anyone. The connection...
His paw felt warm and a tingling sensation happened deep in his stomach. Knotting up his throat and he laughed it out. "Then I want to soar through all of Jokoa' and find it. A place filled with music, all the time. Without toxins and things maybe. Maybe." He looked at Xiang. "I'd like it when you warm me up." When Xiang nipped a berry, he leaned up and took it from his maw with his own. A stolen kiss of sorts.
"How aboout it- want it. Wanna help me explore a lil?" Giving him a wink. "You can take flight anytime you want- far far away~Too far away from me~" Back to his sing song voice. A rumble was felt-, and he leaned his head back to see what made it. The sound of something big... tree branches shattering and birds flying away in the distance. "Uh oh.."

"You wouldn't rather be in control of your own head?" Xi hummed, clawtips lightly dragging through Tone's fur, he gave a one shouldered shrug. "I didn't say that." Quirking an eyebrow, he let it go, though that had been the opposite of what he'd said, it didn't matter.
Xiang hummed again, a laugh not voiced, but dancing in his eyes. "Maybe." He purred softly, "I think you're plenty warm."
With the berry stolen from his lips, Xi gave Tone another look. So familiar, but he supposed there could be worse ways to wile away a day... "I think--" he began, eyes half lidded but was interrupted by the local fauna that suddenly made its appearance.
Xi's eyes narrowed and his wings flared up, lifting himself up from where he was sprawled over Tone, tensing. "Decidedly yes, right now, I should think." His voice was low, barely above a whisper. "Stand up slowly, stay quiet and it might not notice us for a moment," he flashed Tone a wide grin, "and don't squirm when we're airborne. It'd be a shame to drop you."

"You don't know what goes on in my head. It''s a chaos. It's no place anyone wants to be." Eating the rest of the berries. But when he said- his head felt the rumble and immediately he perked up and rolled to his side to see what had caused it. "What was that..?" His voice was low. "Something big..." With that, he felt an immense heat upon him, and the glow from Xi made him look up at the male. He seemed strong the way he protected him.
His eyes fro. "You don't have to protect me." Sliding from from beneath him. "I'm just a face." A smile softly as he went came from under him in to the clearing. He lowered himself then tried to slip away. It was just then that the horned bear came fling out of the bushes and right towards the den- and immediately Tone like instinct ran back and felt himself lift off the ground and over the beast that had risen him. Something pieced his skin but he didn't know exactly where. Just that cold came through his body.
Then it all came back to reality with him being slammed in to a tree- just so the beast could get to Xi...

There was no time to reply, no time to do much of anything, Tone didn't listen, wouldn't do as he said. But who was he to Tone, no one important. A stranger met in the night, a bit of company, nothing more. It wasn't as if Xiang should have expected any different.
It wasn't as if Tone was his to protect.
Before Xiang could protest, before he could explain or anything, Tone moved like a flash, or else Chronos was being cruel. There was nothing he could do but watch Tone be impaled and flung into a tree.
When the pembe came at him next, Xiang flared up, flying at the creature's face and roaring, all of his claws extended. He'd never killed anything so large as a horned bear before, but then, he'd never had reason.

His mind has sung one hundred songs all at once- then it was stopped by the tree. When he opened his eyes, it was simply a blur...
A white huge winged figure- some blue here and there against the darkness of the trees. "Angel...of death..take me with you- It's..over.." He whispered. The white figure seemed disappear from above him.
Where he head smashed in to it and instantly he was knocked out. A deep wound that caused his side to bleed. He breathed in an even tone, and thus, the bleeding only spilled more when inhaled.
The Pembe shook, and roared out in pain as it's face slashed. The fire from the other caused the Pembe to try and impale once more, and throw. An obvious maneuver of not knowing how to do anything else to get them out of the way. He roared even deeper now as it began to thrash it's head about to get to him. Baring claws as it rose up an incredible height, then stomped towards it like a wild rhino. With intention to kill.
The fight came- and soon the creature was down too.
When Xiang would come over to Tone's body, he would be passed out with moss in the wound to keep him from bleeding out any more than he already had. The white figure whom had helped, looked off against the distance he made between them and himself. "I'm sorry.. I
m no angel.." The voice was soft soft, just a whisper before it disappeared entirely.
