Natasha winced at the directive. "Well, this isn't going well at all," she mused quietly to herself. "We're sorry to have spooked you," she called after the while stallion into the reef. "I think honestly that Squishy has taken a shine to you, she brought me all this way to meet you. She's typically a pretty good judge of character which means you must be pretty nice. I promise neither of us want to hurt you or anything. Just wanted to talk is all."

Talk? They wanted to talk? To who?! Totchli had barely stopped himself from looking over his shoulder, to check and see if there was anyone behind him. Duh. Of course. The stranger was talking about him. He could see the little jellyfish quivering in excitement, not exactly reassuring. Curiosity pinged at him as he peered closer at the other mer. Was that a girl? He was pretty sure it was... He hadn't seen any up this close since his mother had left... Nope! No, bad! He shook his head and ducked a little further into his reef. Curiosity was bad, talking was bad. Things like that let people in close, and let them hurt him.
"No one wants to talk to you!" He called, roughly. It was a lie. He wanted to talk to her. But then again, it wasn't a lie. He didn't want to get to know her.... ugh. He was starting to get a headache.

"No one, huh?" Natasha couldn't suppress the little giggle that bubbled up and out of her. It's just that his statement reminded her of a story her father had told her when she was little, a tale of a very clever man who tricked a monster once by telling him that his name was no one. After the hero and managed to hurt the monster, it screamed out to its friends and neighbor that, "No one had hurt him!" Naturally they did nothing to help him and the hero was triumphant. "No one sounds like a pretty fun guy, I'd love to talk with him!" she called in with a bright grin.

Wait....what? Totchli stared at what little of her he could see, trying to figure out how that even made sense. Who the heck was No one? No one was no one! Unless... she was No one? But no... she said she wanted to talk to.... He felt like banging his head against a rock. She was making a joke, wasn't she? That was why she had laughed like that before she spoke. She was replying to what he had grumbled at her. With a small twitch, he grumbled darkly to himself before saying louder, "Then go find him!"

Not at all deterred Natasha flicked her powerful fin driving her up above the reef and looked down upon the patch form of the white stallion, "Oh come on now, don't be like that. It certainly isn't very neighborly - it's not that we're looking to bother you but Squishy doesn't typically pull me out this way so something about you must have peeked her interest, and you you're getting mine too. Are you always this antisocial?" She paused for a moment and blinked giving a quick eye to her long tentacle tendrils that fanned around her head in the cool water. "Oh right..." she said quietly. Not everyone was used to seeing her unique form - some, that didn't go long without suddenly gaining a black eye, had compared her to a sea monster - and not in a good way. Her best friend had even been a little scared of her when they met, though that was partially her fault. Being a new born and all she didn't realize just how impolite it was to reach out and grab his hoof with her hair. Life lessons could be challenging at times.

He glared up at her and dove into a different patch of reef that would provide him with a bit more coverage from her new vantage point. He was starting to rethink his ability to wiggle into a hiding place she couldn't. She seemed to be about the same size as him, if not a bit more slender. Why wouldn't she go away? Who cared what a jellyfish thought? Once he was somewhat sheltered again, he replied, "I don't like company. Go away."
While he was distracted, with his attention on Natasha, Squishy darted into the reefs and worked her way closer to the difficult white mer.

"No company at all?" she asked craning her neck to continue watching the mer. She folded her legs in front of her as she floated in the tepid water, "Sounds pretty lonely if you ask me..."

It was. Very lonely. But he didn't mind. It was better than the alternative. "I didn't ask you, did I?" he shot back, trying to make his tone as harsh and unwelcoming as he could. Eventually she might actually take the hint. He hoped.

"I suppose you did not," she conceded thoughtful. "Doesn't really change the circumstances though. You see, I come from kinda a large family. "You see I have my Papa, and my Uncle and they're always around. I also have my Mama and my brothers - they're not around quite as much but I still adore them....well, the bothers I adore most of the time, if you can imagine. And....Papa and my uncle both keep the company of gators so they're usually around too. And there's my best friend Wolf - I always have him to talk to too if I need to...." she wrinkled her nose thinking for a moment. "Don't you ever just want to talk to someone? Get a weight off your chest or something?"

Why was she rambling at him? It wasn't like what she was saying was at all interesting. And he certainly didn't care that she had brothers or parents or an uncle... he wasn't jealous. It was bad enough he'd had his brother and his mother. How much worse would it have been to be abandoned by so many more people? As for needing someone to talk to... he curled up into a ball. He had Velvet... sometimes... not that he ever really said anything to her. The few times he saw her, she squeaked and hid from him before he could say a word. Granted, that was probably due to how he had behaved when they first met... He didn't need to talk to anyone. He talked to himself. That was enough. Right.

"You ok in there?" Natasha called perking her ears up at the sudden shifting of the til then gently swaying kelp among the reefs. She looked over to Squishy in hopes of some form of guidance from the little jellyfish, but the invertebrate kept her silence and seemed to remain concentrating upon the underwater garden. The sea mare took a moment to appreciate this strange male's taste in shelter. It was nearly perfect for camouflage for him as long as he hid deep enough within its reach, though she really wasn't sure what other types of protection it offered. What astounded her most was the beauty of it - to live practically within a flourishing flower bed spoke of a type of poetry that she couldn't really place. Either way, she found she liked it.

"Why are you still here?" he muttered, more to himself than to her. He really hadn't intended on saying the words aloud at all. He didn't care why she was sticking around. In fact, he was pretty sure he should just keep his mouth shut and wait her out. She didn't seem to have a long attention span....

"Glutton for punishment, I supposed," she said slowly stilled flitting back and forth trying to get a better vantage of the stallion through the kelp. "And you seem interesting, I guess I just want to talk with you...or at least to try to talk with you. I guess that's not really working out too well for me right now, huh?"

"Maybe you're not as dumb as you look," Totchli muttered, sarcasm dripping from his tone. He cringed inwardly, hating how rude that was. Rude and mean. But that was what he was, right? He wasn't nice, and he wasn't polite.Nice, polite people had family and friends, two things he lacked. Things he didn't need, and would never admit that he wanted.

It started as a little bubble of laughter and then it burst out full of her amusement, "You...you think I look dumb?" She threw back her head uncaring of the way her tentacles spread and framed her face like a halo, "My goodness, that's a relief. Most find me utterly frightening. But dumb...well that's a new one!"
