Remaruqe. This was Remarque. Something stirred inside of her, like bubble in a pond rising from the black. A boy with purple eyes and the word brother whispering across her mind. For just a second, she saw tall grass and the shrieks of the velociraptors of her sphere. But she wasn't transforming. And then it was gone. She was still in Raven's kitchen, staring at the boy who was Remarque... who was... her old boxing instructor? Acubens' eyes narrowed as she tried to search for the right words to say.
Oh s**t.
Before she had just kissed some dude's girlfriend. Now she had kissed Remarque's girlfriend. She'd kissed a damn good boxer's girlfriend. Acubens blushed, even thought she had no reason to believe that Raven had said anything about it. And why should she have? Finally Acubens shoved out a hand.
"Hey Jett... I know... it may not be the best time to be defecting but... for what it's worth, I'm with you. If those... dreams... that you had were really the future then... I'll do anything to stop that from happening."

Raven listened to the words of Jett, and then the words of Acubens. It felt honestly like a thousand knives were stabbing her all over again, and she wondered if it was too late to go and delete those emails. She could still make it to California in a few days. She still had a few days. She could still leave and forget everything about this place. The people and…and everything.
She shook her head and scoffed in disgust. Great. A perfect little soldier, following the ******** perfect ******** ******** prince. Whatever. Whatever. Why would she have ever expected any different?
The blonde didn’t say a word as she walked into her room, closing the door softly. She didn’t say a word as she flopped onto the bed, pulling the pillow over her head. She didn’t say a word as she lay there, waiting for darkness to overtake her.
Because really, what else was there but darkness anymore?

Jett watched as the door to their room closed, and with it he wondered what other doors had just closed. "I appreciate it," he said to Acubens, or whoever she was now, but sounded distracted. His eyes didn't stray from the door for a long while, and then he sighed and turned away. "But I don't think tonight is the night to talk about war."
He didn't want to fight tonight, but his nerves were bunched up and he was on edge. He didn't think he risked snapping, but he was getting close. Food sounded unappealing now, and Chinese food—Pizza…he might as well have been thinking about eating bark for as much as he now wanted either.
He might have chased after Raven, but they had company, and he…didn't know what to do. He should have been more happy that Acubens had joined, but in the middle of a conversation like this? He had no emotions of joy to spare.
"…You'll have to excuse me," he said after a moment, and turned to walk back to the door. He picked up his keys and slid on his shoes. "I left something at work. I'll be back later. Please, make yourself at home. There should be leftovers if you want, and there's enough in the kitchen that you can make yourself something if you like. We'll talk later."
He hadn't needed a cigarette in so long, but his stash was in his car. Maybe a few of them and a little time on the open road would clear his head.
Or maybe he'd just drown in his thoughts.

"Talk to her," Acubens threw towards Jett in hopes that he heard it. The door shut behind him, leaving Acubens in a kitchen that was not her's. Alone. Alone again. This time she didn't even have a brother to run to for help. She began to shiver in the emptiness. Was it really that cold? Acubens wrapped herself in her arms and looked around, trying to find something to focus on. Anything to take her mind off of what had just happened.
Raven doesn't believe that she loved her. Remarque... Jett... had just left her... And he and Raven had the same reaction to her corruption. Like she didn't belong. Maybe she didn't. Had she made the right choice? Should she have fought harder in the White Moon? Had... had their friendship been only a rouse to get her here, and now that she was...
When had she started hyperventilating? The air felt so think in that kitchen. And it was such a small room. Out, she needed out.
No.
Old Acubens would have run away. Broken, sad, wounded little orphan of the universe. She would have cried and run away. Whatever had happened in that kitchen didn't involve Acubens. It wasn't about her. Emotions here were high, and about something she didn't know about, and she'd be damned if she added to to tension. In fact... she'd try her best to lessen it.
She didn't even care if she was being loud. Let them both here. She knew a few tricks to make a 20 minute chicken soup that would warm Elsa's soul. Onions, carrots, and celery in the pan to sweat a little. Stock in the pot, chicken breasts to cook in the oven. In less than half an hour, they would have dinner, and they'd all sit around the kitchen table, and be a family.
