"I-" he said sternly, pointing at her with a spatula. He like gesturing with kitchen implements. "-am certainly manlier than a princess. Besides, I don't look good in pink. I dunno that Jan would either." He paused and vigourously stirred the batter.

"Yeah, yeah, quit complaining about the recipe and get to stirring." With a flourish, he poured the batter into the cake pans and slid them into the waiting oven. "If you learn to bake , you can snag a good man - if you're interested." Now they just had to wait a bit. Horace hoped up on the counter, rubbing his hands on his pants.

"As for my man - I love him. He's the sweetest guy most of the time. He's got beef with a lot of other hunters, but I just... I dunno." He shrugged, and thought of how Jan had looked when Horace had admitted to sleeping with Al. "I just don't want anyone to ever hurt Jan, y'know? What's your ideal lover like, dollface?"

She casually pushed his arm away and snickered, "You're cliche, princesses don't need to be pink. Look at those Disney princesses, they come in many colors. You can be a purple princess. Lavender? Wisteria? Iris? Catmint? Salvia?" The more she listed, the stronger the giggles in her voice, like a feline gently swinging its tail with curves "Maybe, I can't say anything without knowing your Jan." A shrug.

What was she doing? Ah, beating the frosting mixture.

It was almost done. "Nah thanks, I don't wanna blow up another kitchen. Not letting me get near the oven or stoves, you made a wise choice, Horace. Besides -I don't think I need to use baking as one of my selling points if I need one." She continued her work in the inclined bowl.

"Whenever there're people, there're drama. it's hard to avoid." She wasn't looking when she made the comment, eyelashes trembled slightly. "If you love him and think he's worthwhile, then go ahead. If nothing is worse than losing him."

She put down the bowl, free her hand from the mixing. "What's my ideal~" She drawled, moving a bit closer. "Hmm....wearing glasses-" an inch closer, "black hair," another inch was cut, "blue eyes -"

- There was only a few centimeter between them that they could feel the breathe of each other

- The big and bright blue eyes that were always half lidded gaze at Horace.

- Body leaned forward to close the remaining distance.

- And...

Horace got a finger whipped across the his cheek, "Hmm, coconut, tastes good." The impish girl leaned backward. "Just saying, I don't have a preference, as long as they are fun to get along with."

She pulled out the spoon from her lips, "Tastes sweet, I guess it's ready." After her little prank, she shot an innocuous smile to Horace.

He crossed his arms, his part in cake making done. "I'd rather be the most handsomest prince, dollface. And yeah, I guess you've got your points." Horace watched her mix with half an eye. Something flickered across her face - but, no, maybe not.

Horace felt his eyesbrows rising higher and higher as the girl spoke. She was quite obviously describing him and getting so very close, but he refused to lean back, not giving an inch. And, at the end of her little spiel, he laughed. "You're awful, you know that?" He rubbed his cheek with one hand.

"And yeah, I can't think of anything worse than losing him. If he asked me to die for him, I would." Horace paused for a moment, then smiled brightly at the girl."Now that this is all done - should we make a filling or just wait on the cakes to finish baking?"

"Filling sounds good" She said. "How long does it take for them to bake?" Waiting was uninteresting, it could be told from her face. "If I call you Lavender prince, would it make me more awful?" she giggled playfully like a naughty feline trying the 'bite your finger' game. It was fun to play with people's reactions.

"Such a strong love, Horace, I'm a bit, just a bit envy" The girl with blue eyes gestured how small it was with two fingers and interlaced her fingers against her chin, black silky hair rustled inside the hood with her movement.

"Filling you say, what to do?"

"Yes, filling! Maybe.... raspberry. Raspberry and coconut go together, right?" Without waiting for her answer, he began to hop around, looking for ingredients. Raspberries, sugar, constarch, water. To be honest, Horace was surprised the kitchen even had raspberries. The bag had someone's name on it but he licked his thumb and studiously rubbed it off. If they'd left it in a communal refridgerator, surely they knew the risks.

"Ughhhh. Lavender prince? It's not the worst thing I've been called, but it's not ideal." He shot her a grim stare and began to measure out the sugar. "Yeah, yeah be jealous of my love - go on breaking hearts left and right, dollface. And the cakes should be done soon. Can you dump about four cups of raspberries into a pot for me?"

"I like raspberry" That was all she replied, she didn't care if Horace was listening or not. The blue eyes flashed when the girl caught what the hunter did. Oh boy. That would make the raspberries taste even better, the impish eyes rolled around thinking someone about to have a unhappy surprise when they open the fridge.

Awwww that expression, it pleased her, that was why she did it.

He wasn't paying attention she could tell, but it didn't bother her. "What worst things have you been called, handsome?" She didn't say yes or no, but her action represented her will. "Huh! Your words are like I'm a little evil lady that breaks hearts for fun, that's a serious accusation. Objection!" A blaming squint shot on his way, "I won't hurt people if they don't hurt me first."

"Ah, nope!" He shook his finger at her. "Like I'm gonna tell you all the unflattering things I've been called. I left those behind when I came here." And gained a new set of insult, but she didn't need to know that either. He stirred the raspberry mixture with great purpose.

Suddenly the oven beeped and he bustled, pulling out hot cakes - three layers. Cake, raspberry, cake, raspberry, cake all covered in coconutty frosting; it would be glorious once done. But then Horace's phone beeped. Sliding the cakes on the racks to cool, he looked at it. s**t.

"Dammit. I've got pod duty in ten minutes, so I gotta run. Uh," He stared at the cakes. He stared at her. He stared back at the cakes. "-you can... put it together? And... maybe if you're feeling generous, bring me some? B38." He grinned the kind of sheepish grin that meant he knew he was asking for a lot. His phone beeped again. Horace cursed. "It's been real, dollface,"

And then he was off like a lightning bolt.

The surprised look on the girl's face suggested she didn't expect that, but within seconds, it returned to the composed smile again. As his leaving was something that can blow some of her hairs up, she couldn't say anything in time, but a dismissive hand wave.

Horace didn't have time to leave her any instruction, she looked down at the parts like dealing with an unaccustomed 3D puzzle, that was no way she could do it without assistance. Great handsome, she will remember this.
========================

As the girl continued to prop her chin on her hand, someone walked in. Like a cat resting in comfort and moved the slender body to stand, she brushed along the edge of the table for a support, smiling "Hello." The blue eyes shone brightly, looked at the unfortunate hunter.

"Oh, hiya." The man greeted and soon cursed after opening the fridge. "********, someone stole my stuff. I plan to use them on cakes later, if I find out that b***h, they are doomed." The man slammed the door close, furiously. The girl rolled her eyes, too quick to be noticed. Oh here's your karma, good luck not to be found, handsome. A small giggle escaped, "I'm sorry for that, but I am a bit happy to see you. Would you mind helping me a little bit? You know how to make cakes right?" She made the upturning eyes gingerly at the hunter, looked helpless.

He easily nodded, followed the pretty blackhead to the table and took a quick glance. Sponge cake layers, a bowl of creamy white frosting and a bowl of raspberry filling. He shot the girl a look but she was giving him a warm innocent smile - he swatted his forehead for suspecting a sweet girl. "Hold on" he walked away and stopped at some cupboards, bringing two aprons back. "Put it on" The male gently said as he tied the strips behind his back. "Thanks", she said, "I was baking this with my friend, but he suddenly being called out and left me this mess. I never bake a cake before so I don't know what to do." She sighed and shrugged. The man nodded, agreeing it would be difficult task for people having no idea and rolled up his sleeves.

Giving the tools and ingredients a good check, he tasted the frosting. "The cake layers are cooled, get closer and learn." He was going into the kitchen to make some savory cupcakes, plan ruined and he was grumpy about that. "Tsk. Who will make a layered cake with filling with someone new to baking and leave such a mess behind. F-Tsk." He wanted to curse, but then he remembered his policy of not swearing when he baked. "Be right back" he went to the inner part of the kichen along the main aisle and returned a few minutes later.

Light seafoam shoulder-length hair tied in neat bun, the dark tanned hunter grabbed his own knife to slice the dome portion away while instructing the girl. He put the piece slightly heavier on a turner, "For layered cake, the bottom base needs to be the most supportive and layers above need to be light to avoid collapse. Remember to put the base on a turner, underneath several wax papers." He poured frosting material into the piping bag he brought back and gave the girl a look, "Make a dam around the edge before you apply the filling in." He demonstrated the first layer and asked her to do the second. He grabbed her hand to direct her, "Stead your hand to give a stable squish and slowly turn the platform, yes, then pour the filling in and spread even." It was much worse than the previous layer in quality but not too bad either, the hunter took the place to quickly finish the third.

"Ok, now the crumb coat." He gave the girl a look then made a face. "A thin layer to cover the cake, making the final coat easily later. You try." He handed her the spatula, told her what to do. It was a bit hectic for an inexperienced, dab of frosting stuck to her fingers. The hunter with dark skin sighed, took over her job but stained with frosting when he touched her hand. His eyebrows knitted together, forming deep creases in between. "I will take half of it as reward" he announced, spread and moved the spatula over the horrific cake, elegant but swift. Soon, he finished it and sent it to refrigerate. "Prepare a glass of hot water, using - that" He pointed her direction and spent his time tidy the table, chopped some walnuts when she walked away. He didn't let her touch the final coat, but did it like a magician. "Now it's done, garnishing." He pushed the bowl of walnuts and coconut to her and commented that she did this part the best among all.

"Hmm, it's done." He finally made a small smile and the creases were gone. The man halved the cake , then cut his half into some slices before handing her the knife. He put one of the slices on a plate with a silver fork aside and sat on a chair to eat. He gave another plate to the blackhead, the two sat next to each other to enjoy their cakes. The satisfied sweet smile on her face made the hunter proud and delightful, they had an enjoyable conversation until the girl attacked his face with frosting because of his tease. It was not an awful time for both through the back and forth frosting game.

=================

Late of that day, the door of B38 got tapped by the girl in her red hood. "Horace, are you there? I bring you the cake."

"Ahh, what? Who? Cake?" There was a thud or three and the door opened. Horace poked his head out, hair mussed. He'd been catching a nap after duty and completely forgotten about both the cake and the mysterious, pretty girl. He blinked owlishly before his lips curved into girn.

"Well, hey, there, dollface. Sorry for bailin'; it's nice of you to bring it by." He yawned and covered his mouth with one hand. "You wanna come in?"

The girl gave the Death a judging squint, the hand holding the take-out box swung aside. "I deserve a bed head after doing so much?" Her face told Horace she wasn't happy about that. The blue eyes turned upwards at his apology, then a small smile. "Not the best apology but I made a friend so apology accepted." She wore a sweet smile as she sauntered in without saying anything, the box behind her slightly swayed.

Like some curious felines first visits a place, the blue eye roamed over the room with interest. Basement room was small that can be scanned with a simple left-to-right glance. Locating the desk, she walked towards it to drop the box, gently opened it. "Only got two pieces, the guy helped me took half as his payment. That's enough for you and your blonde prince though." She then left them there, hand touching the books on the bookshelves.

"Your hobby?" She smirked. "Which do you like better, baking or reading?" The hand stopped at the bridge of a book, with an obviously romantic name that would give her tooth decay. "Where's your Twilight series?"

"Blonde prince, eh? Though, he'd probably prefer blonde king." Horace laughed a little. "Thank you for bringing some over for me. Half is fair payment - oh! Uh, you don't have to... look... at those." He trailed off, waiting for the inevitable teasing. Horace winced as she trailed her fingers along the books.

"Reading... And hell no, I don't have Twilight. It's a piece of drivel," he said huffily, crossing his arms. "I just like happy endings. Everybody has a hobby that's... uncharacristic. Even you, Miss Mysterious Girl."

The hands were flipping the page without much interest, the blue eyes glazed over and scanned through small texts stopped. Thump. The book was closed. "I prefer dollface, Lavender Prince" the blue eyes looked into Horace's, didn't comment on the uncharacteristic hobby part.

"You seem soft, but actually an iron fist in a velvet glove" but too gullible. She teased with a giggle. The eyes flickered onto the little library. "Your glasses suit you. Horace, recommend a book, which's your favourite?" She put the book back, hands dancing along the bookshelf before she shot a look on the desk. "You're not eating that now?"
