Bon Voyage
His brows drew down in concern at her initial dismissive texting. He was well versed in the various versions of distracted and unwell Chel. Unfortunately, he just couldn't figure out why she was distracted this time.
He let himself be swept up in her excitement over the motorcycles, though. It was easier. "Yeah man, holy s**t. I haven't been on a bike since then. This is going to be awesome. And I'm not riding b***h this time," he pointed at Chel accusingly.
The tech droned on in the background. Something about humans missing, a cave system, the search and rescue. Chris caught what he assumed were the important pieces.

Bon Voyage
"Aw c'mon, y'looked so cute ridin'-"
"Hello!" a deep, round voice bellowed, the "O" sound being particularly emphasized. The sound seemed to fill the lighthouse itself, all attention being given to the speaker. "What a beautiful young maiden, fit for a prince!"
Chel's hand was suddenly taken up in a princely kiss, to which she immediately pulled back and made a face at Chris like the ******** name is Matthew-"
"And you can call me Matthews."
"It's his last name, really a technicality-"
"Oh my god."

"Oh. My god."
Chris's face went tight and red with how hard he was trying not to laugh. Beautiful young maiden. Jesus christ. "I uh, think you got the wrong girl, guys. She's not really the maiden type. Unless we're talkin' Iron Maiden."

"Nonsense, she-"
"Quiet, brother!" Both took a rather melodramatic look at the great beyond as they seemed to strike a bewildered pose. "We must-"
"Yeah okay, thank you, not interested nerdsquad," Chel was not having it today or any day. She couldn't stand that overt chivalry. "And <******** you," she hissed at Chris (though as always, it was in jest. Permanently making a joke).
The annoying background noise buzzing in her ear had disappeared finally, so she looked at Captain Beautiful and said, "You gonna stand there lookin' fancy or are we gonna get you to a ********' mountain?"

"Brother?" Chris pursed his lips, then pointed at the one that'd introduced himself as Matthew. "Does that make you Matthew Matthews? Bro, your parents are ******** up," he laughed. He gave Chel a cheeky grin and a shrug. ******** you was by far the least upsetting thing she'd ever said to him.
Captain Beautiful looked startled, then sheepish as he held his shield a little higher. "Ah, yeah of course. Everyone through the portal, let's go!" He commanded the rest of the team, but seemed to look back to Chel for approval.
Chris shouldered past Chel and through the portal. Not because he was jealous of the attention or anything. Just because it was time to go. "You heard the man, asses through the portal."

Chel was hardly aware of Captain Beautiful's look of neediness, but she was very aware of Chris'. As she sauntered to the portal, she passed Chris and whispered, "Gaaaayyyy," into his ear.
As if he needed a reminder.

The other side of the portal was vastly different from Deus. The wind was the first thing Chris noticed; it came in gusts that whipped at his cheeks and pulled on his long coat. It was incredibly cold. He pulled his hood up, glad that it blocked at least some of the chill.
It had dumped them in the snow on the outskirts of a tall forest. Mountains met the clouds in the distance, and he assumed that was where they were headed.
A row of sleek black motorcycles idled a few feet away, and Captain Beautiful was already cradling a helmet in his hands. "Everyone gets a bike, trainees must stay near a hunter at all times. And put on a helmet - I'm not scrapping your heads out of the snow."
Chris stumbled toward the bikes and tried not to drool on them. They weren't average motorcycles; more like ATVs with thicker wheels an an more maneuverable frame. "s**t this is right out a video game. Warthogs!" he crowed, turning to Chel with a grin. "We're going to look so rad."

"Dead end," Chel called out, foot gently touching the ground as her motorcycle pivoted and came to a hault at the base of the rocks. She stopped so fluidly it was like she had been born to ride the thing- Chris of course was somewhere behind her. She pulled up her goggles for a moment, somewhat incredulous that she could see her breath in the icy cold. "Who knew mountains and motorcycles don't mix, eh?"
It was a grin, but there was some tiredness in her voice. They'd been doing this for some time- take a path, dead end. Take a path, dead end.
" "I believe you said that already, but the rose color in your cheeks is so lovely I don't protest hearing it again."
"If ya don't shut the ******** up, I will come kick ya in the balls." She glared with the intensity that only a very cranky person could, but it softened just a hair when she looked over at Chris. "Any ideas?"

Like synchronized dolls, Chel's hood went up in the same moment and movement that Chris' did. The only difference was that after Chel's hood was up, plastic moved across Chel's face and she situated the goggles snugly on her nose. The cold hit her face and she felt the bite hard. She'd always been a sunshine child- the icy touch wasn't welcome.
She followed behind Chris somewhat quietly, hands in her pockets and back curved in a slouch like always. It was harder to do in her puffy jacket, but she somehow still managed to look like she'd just been pulled out of a trash can.
"But how they get them out here..." Chel muttered to herself, more in bitterness against the cold than genuine curiosity. Perhaps she was trying to cover the wince as Captain Beautiful seemed to address the title "trainee" in her direction as well. Considering she was being monitored, it might as well have been.
Once they finally reached the motorcycles, Chris erupted and she found herself caught up in his excitement. "I already look rad. You on the other hand need all ya can get." There was a cheeky look on her face as she ran her hand down some of the hard metallic shell that covered the enormous wheels. "Feels like Tron, yeah?" She was mildly unimpressed that they all had the same blue colored runes running down the side. Color customization was really lacking in this particular game. "Sucks we can't keep 'em."

Rough TerrainChris's motorcycle came to a safer stop next to hers moments later. He pulled off his helmet, leaning on it as he took in their surroundings now that they weren't rushing by him in a blur. He was getting tired of running around like this. "ATVs would've been harder to get through the denser trees, though."
He kicked out at the Matthews's (which Matthews, he didn't even know, they were like gross clones) bike and the guy sputtered. He was cold, too, but once he'd focused on what they were doing it was easier to ignore. "We could follow around the base, yeah? Just Skyrim it till we find a path through. It'll be rougher but better than going in loops."
He scratched at his chin and shrugged. He couldn't think of a better way to do it, really. It was all trial and error. "Everything's too quiet here. ********' weird." It felt eerie to him, the way nothing seemed to move around them as their bikes cast a cool blue glow on the snow.

PriorHe was so jittery from reading the mission that he'd almost whirled out of the room without letting Lydia know. Luckily, just as he'd been about the close the door, he'd seen her sleeping form and paused.
He left a note, hastily scribbled on two post-it notes in his excitement, stuck to her forehead. seussixx (first post-it) Hey Ladybug, Got a mission, leaving this morning! (Chel's going too !!!) Don't miss me too much. (second post-it)ps i left you my blanket - stay warm! pps don't eat all my junk food. ):

"Don't say it's quiet man. C'mon, horror movie rule number one ugh." Chel began the process of taking off her helmet- annoying with her goggles.
Matthews declared, "Captain what do you believe we should do?" There was a waterfall that he had his eyes on for some reason.
Chel turned back to Chris. "Sounds like a good time for a break."

Rough Terrain"Oh, but what's the worst that could happen?" Chris asked mockingly. He batted his eyelashes innocently at her before turning to Captain Beautiful. CB sighed. "No harm in scouting on foot for a bit, I guess. Don't go off alone - sun-moon pairs at the least." Like a kid partnering up for a class, Chris whipped around to smile at Chel. He swung off his bike and started heading towards the trees. "C'mon Sunshine. We got scouting to do."

<******** you."
The insult came as she buried her dagger in the leg of a giant forest creature. She had pangs of guilt as she thought of Owain, and she tried to push the familiarity from her mind. This was why making friends with Halloween was hard.
But Owain was friendly and wonderful whereas these tree ents had picked Her off the ground like a piece of trash to be thrown away. That meant they were very much on Chel's bad side. She threw the dagger at its other leg, momentarily crippling it enough to let her drop to the ground as a ragdoll, but not enough to allow her to get her daggers back.
"You and your goddamn ents."

Scouting"It's not all ents, just treebeard!" Chris protested.
Except it probably was all tree ents. He just hadn't given it much thought before. This was was certainly ******** incredible as it caused the ground to shake under his feet just by taking a step. ********' so goddamn rad.
He jumped over Chel's crumpled form after she fell and sunk the blade of his gauntlet into it's thigh, because that was all he could reach. The issue with that was that the blade was attached to his gauntlet which was attached to his arm. Thus, he was stuck with his toes just barely able to touch the ground.
"s**t s**t s**t I'm stuck. Here do something," Chris called, reaching up to pull one of her daggers (with way too much difficulty if he was honest) from it's leg and toss it to the ground next to her. The ent moved it's leg, jarring him and making his teeth rattle.
