Privately, Cruithne rather thought that Glitnir was going about this wrong. It was fine and good to act like someone from the Negaverse would act in a fight. But if he wanted her to learn how to fight, a little verbalization would be nice too. Or slowing down a little and showing her how to parry properly.
Maybe this was just the way boys were.
Holding back a sigh with difficulty, she managed a tiny, tight smile at the bit of praise. She felt the hit on her shoulder and scowled, bringing her stick sword up and swinging it like a bat at Glitnir's side.

The stick to the side connected, though Glitnir could probably have blocked it. "Good! You've got a good swing. Now, for this next hit, you're going to have to hold your stick straight and steady." It occurred to him that his teaching methods were kind of zigzagging all over the place, from attempted realism to a more guided method. It made him feel glad that he still had a bit of time before he got his education degree and would be expected to at least be part of teaching a class. Even so, he would probably be better at teaching math and English than anything physical. He took his stick and made an overhead swing towards Cruithne.

Straight and steady? Arching an eyebrow, she did as instructed and yet out a soft yelp as Glitnir's stick came swinging down at her.
Well, the explained straight and steady then.
Catching his blow, she pushed back as best she could before an impish look flickered across her face. Shoving up with her stick as hard as she could, she swept her foot out in a kick designed to catch Glitnir's ankle and unbalance him a bit.
If he could pull sneaky moves, well so could she.

"Whoa!" That sneaky kick sent Glitnir stumbling. "Nicely done! You've got tricks up your sleeve already. That's good." If Cruithne had been fighting before, it must have been with her fists and feet, and necessity most likely caused her to pick up some tricks. "Get ready!" He swung towards her right side, trying to hit with the side of the stick instead of the tip.

"I'm a g-girl," she murmured. "All g-girls have trick up t-their sleeves."
Which, as far as Cruithne had observed, was completely accurate. Entertaining as it was to stand in the middle of the park and beat each other up with sticks, it was getting late and Cruithne didn't want her parents to ask awkward questions.
She flinched a little when the stick hit her side. Served her right for woolgathering, she supposed. Still.
"J-just a few more m-minutes, okay? I d-don't want my parents to w-worry."
That said, she brought her stick around in an arc, aiming for Glitnir's wrists. That was what her story books always did. Go after the hands or wrists.

"That's alright, I think we can-" Then Cruithne's stick scratched him over his wrist. "Ow, good one. Anyway, I think we can call it a night here." Glitnir lowered his stick. "Are you good to get home on your own, or would you like me to take you part of the way, just in case?" He figured it wouldn't hurt to offer at the very least. You never knew when a youma was ready to jump out and grab you (well, you would feel the aura, but some youma were very persistent even when measures were taken to avoid them).

Half-grinning, Cruithne lowered her improvised weapon and gave Glitnir a nod. Praise was nice. Particularly when it was for stuff that she didn't normally do. And really, even if she suspected that Glitnir might have gone a little easy on her, it was good to know that she wasn't entirely helpless.
And speaking of...
"I c-can do it," she said, stammer hardly noticeable. "My house i-isn't far from here. Thank you, t-though."
Smiling again, she bobbed a little curtsy, gave the page a wave of thanks and darted off for home.
