Glancing over at the finished salad, Kekipi smiled and nodded approval.
"Looks good! I'm enjoying myself too, just so you know. This sort of thing is just fun. So," he continued winking a bit at her. "You've got a choice now. You can help me finish the fish or just watch. I'm good either way, but need to know since I don't want you getting hit by hot oil when these suckers cook."
He gestured to the plate of dredged fish and the little assembly line he'd prepared. Then, he took one of the pieces of fish, dunked it into the bowl of poi batter and then moved it to the pan of hot oil to fry.
"Once the fish is fried, I'll moved 'em to this pan to let the oil drain out," he explained, pointing to a rimmed baking sheet with a small wire grate balanced on top.

Yuki hummed a little and then looked around, seeming to be weighing the pros and cons of helping versus watching. "I think I'll watch." She got to watch his hair move, watch the muscles bunch and unbunch, and honestly? Just enjoy being here with Kip in the moment and not worried about grease flying at her. So, she settled next to him, a bit behind, but still next to him as she watched him dip the fish and then move it to the oil. She was in a very good mood, in very high spirits. She just knew the rest of the date would go well.

Nodding agreeably, he waited until she was out of the way of the boiling, popping oil and then turned the fish over as it fried before lifting it from the pan to drain. He repeatedly this with each piece of fish and managed to keep any oil from dripping or splashing out. And soon enough, the fish was neatly stacked on a plate, cooling and Kekipi quickly cleaned up his work station before turning to Yuki.
"I'd say we're ready. I've got drinks in the fridge if you want to pick somethign out. I'll get the table ready."
Carrying the salad and plate of fish to the table, he set them in the center and moved quickly to place two settings as well. Once he was sure everythign looked as nice as he could make it, he pulled out the chair for Yuki and waited for her to sit.
He was a gentleman that way.

She watched him, grinning a little. She stood on her tip toes now and then to watch what he was doing, seeing how he flipped the fish and then hummed. It looked, and smelled so good. Her stomach rumbled slowly and she rubbed at it and flushed hard before laughing. "Oops." Then it was ready and she wandered to the fridge to grab herself a soda and a bottle of water. Yuki wasn't sure what he wanted to drink, and she bit down on her bottom lip as she wandered back to the table to sit down, crossing her legs at her ankles. "This smells amazing. Thank you!"

Waiting until she was seated and comfortable to go and grab his own bottled water, Kekipi grinned and bowed a little at the waist.
"My pleasure. Help yourself and be careful to not burn yourself!"
Reaching for the salad she'd made, he spooned a generous portion our for himself before setting it back on the table. Then, he speared some of the fish and hoped that it would come out tasting as good as it smelled. Be a fine thing if it tasted like paste.

She smirked a little and cracked open her water before starting to drink that. From there, she just started to eat the fish because it honestly smelled so good Yuki couldn't resist. Sighing happily, she licked her lips after the first bite and almost swayed in her chair. "This is so good!" She licked crumbs off her lips again and actually did bounce.

Grinning at her obvious enjoyment of the food, Kekipi tried the fish too and rather thought that this was one of his better efforts. Then, he tried the salad and grinned even more.
"You did good on the salad, Yuki. This is better than I usually manage."
Laughing a little, he decided it was safe enough for some gentle joking around.
"Between the two of us, we could open a food truck or something. We'll be millionaires."

"Oh, please. It's literally all vegetables. I don't see how you can go wrong with it..." Yuki didn't know how to take a compliment half the time. She was a little huffy and just slowly pulled a foot up, resting it on the edge of her chair to eat. It was a habit. She was honestly comfortable like this. With a smile on her lips while they ate, she just talked with him and enjoyed his company. Kip was lively, and made her feel relaxed and not as stiff and awkward as she thought she was.

"And all I did was put fish and the food equivalent of wallpaper paste together," Kekipi returned with a grin. "Trust me, not everyone can make a salad that balances so nicely. And your's does. So there!"
He crinkled his nose and stuck his tongue out at her playfully before returning to his food and eating with obvious enjoyment. And he made it a point to take seconds on the salad. 'Just vegetables' or not, she'd made a better salad than he ever had.

"Well this edible wallpaper paste is good with the fish. Just take the compliment, Kip," she said, giving him an amusing look before shrugging. His involved cooking! Hers involved mixing raw things into a bowl and adding some dressing. Maybe she could take some cooking classes, especially if there were going to be more dates with him. Yuki certainly hoped there was more dates. When he took seconds, Yuki just huffed a little and rubbed her face and muttered 'flatterer' under her breath.

Taking a big bite of the salad, Kekipi winked. And once his mouth was clear, he shot an impish grin at Yuki.
"Just take the compliment, Yuki," he stage whispered before bursting into laughter. "And I heard that. Every pretty lady deserves a little flattery in her life."
Still smiling, he went back to his food.

She just batted her bangs out of her face as she flushed again and her head ducked. Damn, this guy was smooth, wasn't he? She took a drink of her soda and then cleared her throat again. "I'm glad we were able to do this. ...I've never been on a date before." Way to make yourself sound lame, Yuki. "U-uh.." Nope, no cover up. DaisyMilk (We can probably wrap this soon if you want.)

"I haven't had much experience in the way of dating myself. So I vote we call this one a rousing success. And I am personally hoping for more in the future."
Grinning, but with a hint of blushing coloring his own cheeks, Kekipi raised his water bottle in a toast. Okay, sure, he had a weird a** double life going on, but he knew there were officers who'd managed to balance work and play. Surely he could manage the same. Think positive, Kip!
"Many, many more dates. Next time, you can do the cooking."

She could do the cooking. That implied she knew how. Well, she supposed she could learn, couldn't she? Opening her mouth and then closing it, Yuki just nodded and raised her own drink for the toast and then sipped softly. More dates... That would be nice.
