As had been predicted by the weather forecasters, snow was falling from the grey sky. The flakes had started off large. The kind you can imagine yourself dancing and spinning around in as you held your tongue out in an attempt to catch one of the frozen flakes. Needless to say flakes that size did quick work covering the ground. Of course it had just started with grassy areas looking white, but within an hour the sidewalks, care and roads were glistening with a snowy white blanket on them. It was an absolutely gorgeous scene to watch unfold and Chailee Sterling had picked the best seat in the house. The big bay window in her bedroom.

Truthfully the seated and cushioned bay window was probably the best feature in her room and was usually the place Chailee curled herself up in for a good reading session. Today was no different. She had pillows propped up against the wall for herself, a thick wool blanket was draped across her lap and an empty mug of hot chocolate sat on her desk that was positioned right by the window. She was all tucked in and wearing fluffy fleece pants and a hoodie. Not to mention her little grey bunny slippers, that were neatly tucked under the blanket, were keeping her feet nice and toasty.

She had been propped up in that window all morning watching the snowfall and reading a book she had gotten from the library. The book hadn’t been overly large. In fact i was a mere 272 pages and for Chailee it did not take long for her to finish it. After spending the morning reading she found herself constantly closing the book that was resting in her lap. Her mind, as always, didn’t immediately turn off her adventures in the books. Instead she liked to dwell on her thoughts and enjoy the high she always got at the end of a well told story, or stories, in this instance.

She had been suggested by Anthony Darrow to take a look at the Mallory tales of King Arthur. Now the story wasn’t what she had originally intended to find while at the library. In fact, Chailee had been looking for a very typical fantasy novel including princesses in distress, knights and magic. What she got though turned out to be much more fulfilling.

Chailee sighed as she unconsciously played with a curl. The stories had been very intriguing, and though the book was not one complete story in and of itself, the stories flowed well with one another. Reading a book such as that made her almost believe that a man named King Arthur really existed. Wouldn’t that be a wonderful thing to have happened? A man, pulling a sword out of rock, meeting a great and powerful magician, and getting a Kingdom named Camelot was just a lovely fantasy to picture in her mind. Imagine if something like that were true and things like magic swords and wizards existed! Oh what fun that would be!


To be a princess or knight fighting for what you believed in and having a magical wizard at your side was a fantasy that Chailee could happily fuel in her mind. Maybe add to that a large beautiful world where creatures like dragons and unicorns existed. But her world, in her mind, was a perfect affair. Everyone got along happily and peacefully. There was no fighting and no conflicts. The knight got his princess and the two ruled happily in their kingdom and were much beloved by their people. What pure bliss!

“Chailee dear! Lunch is ready!”

The sound of her mother’s voice pulled Chay away from her thoughts. How long had she been daydreaming? A glance out the window told her it hadn’t been too long. It had been a lovely fantasy none-the-less.

“I’ll be right down!”

Regretfully, Chay put the book onto her desk and kicked off the blanket that she had cocooned herself in. The coolness of the air made her long to curl back up in her nook but her stomach promptly proclaimed its’ desire for food. So, grabbing her empty mug, Chay stopped for a moment to glance in her mirror in an attempt to fix her wild mane, but as usual, gave up with the task.

Her thoughts as she left the room as she made her way down to the kitchen consisted of wondering it the library was still open and if she wanted to brave the storm for another book about Arthur and his Knights.
