Horace yelped as the spear connected neatly with his side. Fear shields stopped blows from being dangerous, the wards around the sparring field more so. But still, Arorangi's spear was annoyingly pointy. He would frankly never remember the Maori words, but the tonal quality of the language was nice. He snorted at the meaning. "Yeah, you miss the moon and fall splat on a mountain. R.I.P. you." But he grinned at Arorangi. "I don't know any langauages, unless you count some high school french. Ce n'est pas mardi gras aujourd'hui!" Not that Aro looked ridiculous enough to use such a phrase seriously. Without explaining, Horace tried to duck around Aro, kicking out at the back of one knee. They were both doing well during this spar, Arorangi thought, and he skidded away in an attempt to maneuver around Horace's next attack, but the trainee's foot snapped into his leg, and down he went, tumbling onto the grass as laughter echoed from his throat.
"Very true, very true," he said with a grin, as he climbed back up to his feet, using his spear as leverage. "I only know Maori myself, so I do not know what you said, but it sounds very pretty!"

He smiled and waited for the man to right himself. "Um, it means 'not is not mardi gras'. Like if someone is wearing something ridiculous, you'd say that to them. Not that I think your fashion is awful!" Her waved his hands in front of himself frantically. "In fact, I like the colors..." Horace trailed off, seemingly lost in thought. HP: 21 DMG: zip CHR: 3/3

He laughed good naturedly. "It is all right!" said Arorangi brightly. "I am one of those people that likes bright colors and happy patterns, so I just wear what I think is particularly cheerful! It is okay if it is ridiculous, I do know that i am quite loud."
Arorangi shifted his spear again and swung it at Horace. "But I do hope that I am at least loud and friendly!"

"You are, you are! This island needs more happy people, and if happy clothes do the trick, then." Horace grinned and looked at his own sweater. He was trying his best to be one of those happy-type people, and he thought he was doing a damn good job of it. Then Aro's spear flicked out, catching him neatly in the side. The FEAR shield wavered next to his skin and he stumbled. "Loud and friendly and painful.," he muttered. Horace really disliked spear-users - he felt out of is depth and at a huge disadvantage. Grabbing the shaft, he yanked it forward, hauling Aro closer. He locked one ankle around Aro's and pulled and his fist shot cleanly up into the other man's jaw. Today was apparently try to knock Aro over day. HP: 17 DMG: 6 CHR: 3/3

Arorangi was clearly very happy to be told such things, and he matched Horace's grin with one of his own. "Happy clothes make all the difference," he said cheerfully. "My friend Lydia, she dresses very cheerfully all the time, and it makes me very pleased when I see her. And your sweater is also cheerful," he added, glancing at it.
He reached up a tattooed hand and rubbed at the back of his neck. "I feel I am getting a little more used to using my weapon," said Arorangi sheepishly. But Horace grabbing his weapon and yanking caught him off guard, and Arorangi stumbled; his jaw snapped upwards, his feet shot out from beneath him, and then he had toppled to the ground with an enormous crash. At the last second, he swiped his spear out, trying to catch Horace as well.
"That was - " he dragged in a breath and laughed. " - amazing!"

Aro was falling - great! But his spear snapped forward, banging painfully into Horace's kneecap. With a cry and a curse, he was down, too. Right on top of Aro. There was an elbow to the gut, a banging of heads and general ouch. Horace groaned. HP: 11 DMG: 6 CHR: 3/3

The next few seconds were spent with a variety of muffled swear words, some painful bruises, too many flailing arms and legs, and probably some confusing mess of hair and dreadlocks as well.
Arorangi dragged himself away from Horace, wheezing slightly.
"Ow," he said, poking Horace's side with the tip of his spear.

He had bruises from that in places there should not be bruises. Horace rolled over and just lay on his bad for a moment, spread-eagled. He lifted his head up to look at Aro. "Just finish me," he said dramatically and dropped his head back down. HP: 6 DMG: nope

Arorangi let out a small laugh.
"Well...if you wish," he said, and lifted the spear.
He may have brought it down a little too hard on Horace's stomach. Arorangi hastily desummoned his weapon and dropped down beside the other man, a worried look on his face.
"Are you all right?"

Horace braced himself for it, but when his shield shattered, he jerked and coughed violently. Gingerly, he sat up, a hand going to his midsection. He was suddenly very glad bruises healed quickly. He tried to lever himself up and wobbled.
"Good spar - can you give me a hand?"

"Sorry, sorry," said Arorangi hastily, and reached out to grasp Horace's upper arm. His other hand wrapped around Horace's fingers, and with a carefully controlled tug, so as to not yank him over, guided the other to his feet again.
"I say I would owe you a drink or lunch or something," said Arorangi with a small laugh.

He was righted with an 'oof', one arm still wrapped around his ribs. "Wouldn't mind a drink with you sometime - no need to think of you owing it to me though. You're a good man, Aro." He clapped the man on the back before trying to shuffle off to the dorms.
