It was always more satisfying when his target lot their footing, tumbling back against the ground as the swirl of the storm blasted against them. He grinned, pleased, Lagertha an excited present, still buzzing even without the Fear. Eager for more, always. He'd laugh at the compliment, smile dipping int the realms of smugness as one broad shoulder came up in shrug that was meant to be a play on modesty. Ezekiel was hardly modest. "Laggy was a valkryie." As if that was an explanation for the nature of his charge, and perhaps it was. Chance seemed to recover alright. He got to his feet, knocking another arrow, and firing. Zeke tried to dodge it, or bloke. A reactionary jerk of his arm, but it hit, knocking hard into his shoulder and making him turn. As he turned back to face him he'd taken both axes in one hand, and he used them now like a handle, swinging the connecting chain around whip-like, aiming for one of the other trainee's hands. Not a solid hit, but it connected all the same. HP: 13 DMG: 2

Asher thrummed with pleasure, but also with a certain amount of weariness. Chance could feel them beginning to wind down, could feel the FEAR shield begin to weaken around him. It wasn't quite at the worrisome stage yet, but a few more hits and then it'd be time to let go.
"Valkyries are pretty badass," said Chance agreeably, restringing his bow. "I've read up a bit on their legends, back before I came to Deus. They're relatively powerful creatures."

"Considering what I know of them." Which wasn't much. "I would have to agree. Also, she likes to remind me of the fact at every given opportunity." Zeke felt his partner's grin, and there was the distinct impression of ruffled feathers. Lagertha was a very prideful creature. He'd have to read up on the legends surrounding her race. Another arrow, this one caught him in the hip, and the Mist gave a soft hiss. His shield was thinning, cracking around the edges. Even the smaller impacts of arrows seemed to sting. They were almost finished here. Not quite yet though. Adjusting his hold on one ax, he went for the Sun again, and he'd bring the wing carved blade around in a wide arch. HP: 8 DMG: 5

"I've read up on them a bit in some old books," said Chance with a smile, giving a nod to the two axes in Zeke's hands. "They're supposed to be these badass women who kick a** and take names and they're immensely powerful in all of the original tales of them."
The axes in question slammed into Chance with enough brute force to knock him bodily sideways this time. He staggered and slumped, breathing heavily, and stabbed the end of his bow into the grass, trying to get himself vertical again.
"Damn, you hit hard," he said, flashing a grin up at the other. "I think I've still got...one more hit left..."
Chance heaved a breath and then shook his head with a laugh. "Or maybe not."

Ezekiel got the distinct impression his partner was preening after Chance's assessment of her race. Snorting he'd roll his eyes, but didn't bother trying to dispute it, there wasn't much of a point. As much s**t as he gave the valkyrie she was still impressive, and she knew it. The compliment had him grinning, and broad shoulders rolled in a lax shrug. "Sometimes." Certainly not always. When he connected there was usually power behind it, but he still wasn't quite used to handling a weapon, let alone two, that also happened to be connected. It was proving an interesting challenge. As Chance got back to his feet with the aid of his bow Zeke was walking across the grass to lay a hand on his shoulder, steadying him. Their spar was over, he didn't need the axes anymore, so they'd given a quick flicker before disappearing, going back to the carved stone amulet that rested around his neck. "Good fight." he flashed a grin, more relaxed now than when they'd started.

Asher made a pleased sound inside of Chance's head. In spite of having obviously lost the little spar, they felt he'd done well enough as it was, and that was the way it was supposed to be.
A hand fell onto his shoulder to steady him, and Chance's eyes flickered sideways to catch sight of Zeke's grin. He returned it with one of his own, stretching his arms up and tilting his head from side to side in order to attempt to work out some of the kinks.
"Thanks," he said cheerfully. "I'm glad I was able to at least hold my own for some of it."
Laughing, he shook his head. "I really gotta get moving on things if I want to be promoted, though, I think I need a bit more experience."

Zeke's shoulders rolled in a shrug, an easy grin stretching his lips. "One more good hit and I'd have been the one throwing in the towel, so I think you did more than simply hold your own." Lagertha gave an indignant squawk. { Boil, you are the victor, do not belittle it!} Just barely.{ Regardless!} A soft snort followed the internal conversation, but he merely shook his head, the smile lingering. Laggy's enthusiasm was often times lost on her mellow partner. "Same here, really. Should probably see about getting flagged for more missions. I'm sure that'd help." He'd been doing his share of spars, watch duties, and infirmary hours. Missions and training grounds were probably what were holding him back. If anything. Honestly, he wasn't sure what the usual lay over time was from trainee to intermediate trainee.

Chance ran a hand through his messy curls, almost got one of his rings stuck, and carefully lowered his arm again, laughing. "Thanks," he said, flashing Zeke a smile. "I thought it would take me a while to get used to having Ace in my head, but it's kind of just like having another thought process that's just a little more vocal, and it's kinda nice."
He lifted his brows and slid his hands into the pockets of his pants. "Well, if you ever need someone to come along for a mission, I'm always available," said Chance lightly. "I could always use the experience, and all, so feel free to hit me up anytime if you need another set of eyes."
Chance dug around in the pocket of his pants to find his phone. "I think everyone's has all the hunter numbers in it already, right?"

The Mist wasn't entirely sure if he'd ever be the one in charge of picking his team mates for a mission, but if the chance arose. It was something to remember. "Likewise," he'd muse, giving the other man's phone a quick and curious glance. Nosy. "As far as I know, yes. Haven't had to go hunting for a number yet." Even if they weren't, there was always twitter. It wasn't as if Ezekiel was all that hard to find or get a hold of. When he wasn't on duty he was either in the library, his own room, or Ever's. Unless something else drew him out, like today's little spar.

If Zeke had gotten a good look at Chance's phone, he would have seen that the background of it was just the standard stock photo that came with the phone of the sky at night, and that his most recent contacts included the names of several well-known hunters and that there was not much else on the phone at all.
"Well, I'm in Room 196, if you ever need to find me," said Chance with a laugh, as he tucked the phone away again and smiled at Zeke. "I usually just leave the door unlocked anyway, so feel free to stop by anytime you need something, or if you've got a mission you need some extra help on."

Just a glance, enough to see the stars, but there his interest wavered. It wasn't so much that he really cared what was on Chance's phone, so much as he was just always curious, and couldn't always help the initial nosy attempt. One name though stood out, but only because it was familiar. A mutual acquaintance, well, in Ezekiel's case. For all he knew Chance and Finn were much closer. "Ah, right down the hall. I'm in 189." Though lately he hadn't been spending a whole lot of time in his own room. Long shifts in the infirmary, nights spent in Ever's bed. Chance would have much better luck reaching him with a text. That offer though, it had auburn brows arching, and Zeke gave a very subtle, thoughtful tilt of his head. An open ended invitation to just stop by, regardless of reason. It made him want to test the generosity of that offer. Almost a challenge to do what the Mist did best. Pushing buttons. "I'll keep that in mind." An easy smile, and he was offering his hand again. "Thanks for the throw down." Even if it had been Chance that had asked in the first place, Zeke did enjoy a good spar.
