Newgrange did not correct her stance; whatever was comfortable for her worked for him. He smiled and nodded. "I'm ready," he promised. He took his own stance, though it wasn't much more than an attempt to keep himself grounded. He seemed relaxed for a man who was ready to get punched, but he wasn't afraid; this wasn't a real battle or anything—it was sparring. And if he got punched, it wasn't going to be the worst thing in the world, especially if Acrucis had healing magic.
"Go ahead, show me what you've got." He shifted positions just slightly, only enough to bring his arm up to his chest as he prepared to block.

Acrucis drew in a deep breath then exhaled slowly “kay”. She hesitated a moment, thinking twice about hitting someone she just met but he was trying to teach her something so…
With an almost apologetic look she twisted her upper body left and swung with her right fist aiming for his left shoulder or forearm which ever she managed to hit first in that general area-ish.

Having the advantage of knowing that she was going to strike him made it relatively easy for Newgrange to respond; he moved his hand so that his forearm collided with her wrist. He didn't hit hard, but it was enough to redirect her fist away from his face. He took one step backwards as he blocked and drew his other arm back. He didn't attempt to hit her, but relied on the weight she'd thrown to put her off balance. Still, he hovered nearby to make sure she didn't fall, even as he reached with his other hand to poke her in the stomach.
"It left a big opening here," he said quickly, still watching to make sure she didn't fall or hurt herself. "This whole side of your body would have been open for attack after that."

Acrucis reacted just as one would expect someone to having been poked with the surprised ‘eep’ to boot. Standing up straight once more she rubbed the spot on her stomach, not that it had hurt or anything, just that it tickled a bit. “What do you do if they grab onto you to keep from falling?” she inquired, since generally it seemed to be the natural response when about to kiss the ground to grab onto something close.

Newgrange seemed to consider, but ultimately shrugged. "Whatever you feel is right. Let them fall? You could always use the opportunity to run if you wanted to get away, or use their misstep to gain an upperhand in the battle. I think you have to make that decision when it happens based on the person, but I think trying to get some distance between the two of you is best. If they try to grab, just try to brush them off. If they've got a good grip on you and you wind up falling, just try to stay on top. You don't want them to be in a position where they're able to one-up you."
Talking was one thing, but they weren't moving and he was starting to get cold again; standing in front of the heater was sounding like a good idea, but training was important. "Do you want to try and block a punch from me so you get a feel for it?"

“Um, just once. If you don’t mind.” Acrucis brought her arms up like how he had instructed her at the beginning in anticipation for his punch. Both feet planted about shoulder distance apart from one another she smiled nervously.
His movements had been much quicker when she made a swing at him thus making it a bit harder to follow but from where she felt his arm push against her arm the Senshi of Prayer was at least someone confident that she understood how to deflected the impending attack. However knowing and doing were unfortunately two completely different things. “Like this?” She asked, making sure she held the proper stance.

For a moment, Newgrange watched her to make sure she was in an all right position. He nodded and made sure she was ready, double checking to confirm that she was ready. When he'd given her enough time to get comfortable and to protest if anything felt off, he drew his arm back and aim a punch towards her.
It wasn't as fast as he could have done, and it certainly wasn't the strongest he'd ever thrown, but it was enough to give her the practice she needed—he hoped.

Perhaps flinching and squeezing her eyes shut wasn’t the best idea but lo n’ behold that’s exactly what happened. However, even though she neglected to watch what was going on she still twisted her body and moved her arm to deflect the incoming blow.
Acrucis felt her forearm connect with his about the same time his closed fist brushed against her shoulder and it was then she opened her eyes in surprise. “Did I do it?” she asked a bit hopeful since she obviously didn’t know the answer herself. Who knew, he could have just deflected it himself while she wasn’t watching. Oh how embarrassing if that was the case.

Newgrange's eyes had lit up and he nodded eagerly. "You did! Perfect!" He tried to be more reassuring, but by that point in time his teeth had begun chattering and he was looking almost longingly at the vent they had previously been standing next to. "—I think if you keep practicing and work on doing it with your eyes open it might help a bit more," he teased, "But you did really good this time, and I think with some more practice you'll have no problem. It gets kind of instinctive after a while, you know? Muscle memory and self preservation."
He rubbed the back of his neck and sighed. "I don't like conflict, but…I don't like getting beaten. Or worse, knowing my friends are getting beaten up. So I hope…I mean, I know I'm not a good teacher, but I hope you do all right. I hope no one ever tries to hurt you."

“So far I’ve been lucky given how many people I’ve met.” Stepping around the roof vent Acrucis picked up her mostly dry blanket and draped it over her arm. “Thank you for teaching me how to defend myself, I wish there was a way to keep in contact. Maybe meet up again so we can spar again?” It would honestly be easier if there were a way for senshi and knights to keep in contact with one another; then maybe she wouldn’t need to use Maia to get in contact with Shangri-La.
As if she had been hit with an epiphany her eyes lit up. “I don’t know if you’ve met a knight named Shang er.. Shangri-La but if you ever get hurt contact him, he can help or he can get a hold of me.” No reason this should be the first and only time they meet. At least it’s a way for them to reconnect.

"I'd like to meet up," Newgrange said, and fished around in his pockets. He wasn't sure if it was a good plan or stupid that he carried a few extra business cards in his pocket just to make sure that he was easy to reach if he met any new friends. Extracting a card, he handed it to her with a smile. "You can ask for Arias if you want. I work there, co-own, so…I mean, if you're ever in the mood for sweets or anything, drop by! You and anyone you care to invite. If we spar again, I'll bring something to warm us up, though," he laughed; he felt like he was freezing from the inside out and was happy he could grab some leftovers.
His fingers probably wouldn't be much use in preparing a warm meal, now.
"I haven't met a Shangri-La, but I'll keep my eyes out and try to get in touch with him, thanks."

“No problem,” she smiled “Thank you again.”
“I should probably get going.” Acrucis swung the blanket around her and draped it over her shoulders. In her hand she held the business card close under the fleece folds. “Be safe okay?”
With the holidays just around the corner it would be nice to visit him at work and say hello.
And so, with a wave of her hand and their good byes said the Senshi of Prayer leapt off the roof top onto the concrete below, weaving her way between alley ways and darkened streets, skirting the edge of chaos signatures as she ran straight home before her parents decided to check on her before they went to bed themselves.
