Rilind felt the tension ease out of him as Yaholo came closer to him, releasing his second son, and allowed Rilind to get that much closer to him. When he was younger, even present time most of the time, he might have ended up on edge, prickly, and displeased with the situation but there was just something about family affairs. It was one of those things that was able to get under his skin like few other things could. It was just family and the Dretch that were capable of it but he knew that not all families were like his own. He glanced up toward Yaholo, mouthing the words, 'I'm sorry.' to him, hoping that he'd be able to forgive him. He didn't mean to be a pain, he was just a little mixed up was all.

It seemed that they were willing to do as he'd requested though, turning their attention to dinner instead of as much infighting. It would appear as though there were still a bit of it though, as Samoset seemed eager to egg his brother on for some reason. After a moment of watching the pair he decided that it must be a sibling thing... not that he could say that he knew much about them. He didn't have any siblings himself so he wasn't sure the exact working dynamic between them. Was this what they did? Did they always butt heads in such a manner? A curious thing indeed, something he wanted to ask Yaholo about... just not in front of his sons, not when he knew so little about them. Last thing he wanted was to ask the wrong thing and tick off Yaholo's sons. He was sure that if he had a falling out with the boys then it was possible that he might lose Yaholo as well. It really was a worrisome situation.

Dropping his gaze he starred at the hand that had hold of his own, his own hand tightening, clinging to it as though to draw strength from Yaholo. He could do this, all of it, especially this whole 'family' thing. He just had to put a lot more effort into it then a normal person might.

Yaholo grimaced at the twins and moved to stand between them again, just as he caught Rilind mouthing his apology. He shook his head and sighed.

"No, no, it's not your fault." He said, motioning to the twins. "Getting them to get along is like being pecked at by a Scorra and it's a very common thing they do. They would argue like this no matter who was standing around them. I think they just like to embarrass me."

He waved his hands towards Kennet in hopes that he would get the message to stand aside and ignore his brother, before nudging Rilind along towards his father's house. It was a modest looking tree house, one with two levels and a ladder that connected it to the ground, though it looked fairly weathered from how long it had been standing around. Yaholo wasn't sure when his father had said it was built, or who it had been built by in the first place, but all he knew was that his father hadn't built it himself. The man was a walking mess when it came to building anything, which is probably where Yaholo got his own clumsiness from. The apple, it seemed, didn't fall far from the tree.

"Alright, this is it!" He exclaimed, waving his hand in a showy manner. "The house I grew up in! We'll be staying here until we can head back to Andile. I hope you don't mind, Ril."

Kennet heeded his father's warning and stood away from Samoset as they moved towards their grandfather's house. He had to remember that his brother was only trying to get a rise out of him, but it was really difficult when he knew just how to push his buttons. He adjusted his hold on the bird again and paused as his father motioned to the house, his gaze moving to look around the back of the house.

"Where's the fire pit?" He asked, turning towards his father. "Is it in the way back or where he hangs the laundry?"

Samoset furrowed his brow as his brother wandered away from him and stuck his nose in the air. Fine, he'd get him back later, then, when dad wasn't around to tell them off. He followed the group at a slower pace and moved towards the ladder that went up to the house. There was no use in looking for the fire pit if grandpa wasn't around, after all, it was his fire pit, right?

"I'll go find grandpa!" He shouted, making a face towards Kennet again. "He'll want to meet Rilind and help with dinner, too, so don't start until I get back! I'll know!"

And like a shot, he had scurried into the house in search of his grandfather.

Rilind was glad that things seemed to calm down, feeling the last bit of his tensions just evaporate and he was once more able to feel delight in walking alongside Yaholo. He took in everything around him, never happier to have such a strange group with him, since it didn't make him stand out as much. He knew he was a weird looking sort, especially with his hair dyed such a bright color. He knew that his friend had done his best to help him to change the color of his hair with an herbal mix but it had ended up a lot brighter and more attention drawing then he'd like. Still, bright red hair was quite different then the blue it had once been, so he hoped that would help those from his past over look him.

Glancing up at the man who towered over him he found himself wondering something... opened his mouth to speak, until he heard the boys chatting again and he once more went quiet. No, he'd save that sort of talk for when he wasn't with with the rest of Yaholo's family he thought to himself. As they arrived at the big tree house he found himself looking it over, eyes wide, a look of awe on his face. It was a neat looking place indeed, though the idea that there would be even more people put him a little on edge. More people? He was barely able to handle three, but he would do his best. No reason to be rude to people that invited someone like him into their house. It was a thought that gave him pause before he worked on quashing it down. No, he wasn't to think of himself in that way, Yaholo seemed to think well of him, and wanted him to be more positive.

Ril drew in a deep breath, held it, then let it out slowly before he said, "I... um, if you need me to do anything I can." He said to Yaholo before he set to scratching at one of the bite marks he'd gotten in the tussle with the witu before he asked, "Is there somewhere I can wash up? I don't want to track blood and dirt inside." He wanted to be a good guest, not a messy one after all.

"The fire pit's back around the side, Ken." Yaholo said as his focus was drawn to Samoset climbing up the ladder. He hoped his father wasn't taking a rest, or else he'd get one hell of a rude awakening. He sighed, glanced around the base of the house a bit, and blinked at Ril. A place to wash up? A bit of a blush rose to his cheeks at the thought of Rilind bathing which he quickly shook away with a decisive nod.

"Yes, there is a bathtub around the back, too. It's in a room that my father put in the side of the house. Let me show you." He replied, moving to lead Rilind towards the back of the house.

Behind the house was a sitting area with a fire pit and a clothing line for laundry, which, to Yaholo's embarrassment, was filled with all sorts of washing. While he wasn't sure if the washing was from his father or his uncle, seeing someone else's undergarments just hanging there was a bit strange. He hoped Rilind didn't mind it as he approached the door that held the bathtub. It wasn't a very large room, or, rather, as large as Yaholo recalled, but it was very clean and held a very nice, stone bathtub in one of the corners. The Brute smiled, almost as if he were pleased with the stasis of the room itself, and motioned to it.

"I'll just need to fetch some water for you and heat it if you'd like a proper bath." He said, blushing. "And a change of clothes, too, if you're inclined. I'm sure I have some extra clothes stored upstairs in my old bedroom."

Kennet, without needing any further instruction, darted around the back of the house and zeroed in on the fire pit. Oh, yes, yesss, this magnificent piece of construction would do nicely for smoking these birds, it'll be like a holiday feast! All he needed were spices, some oils, maybe some fruit and nuts, and good ol' time and they'd have the best meal ever created. The Blade plopped the bird he'd taken onto the logs and glanced around for the other bird, before waving to his father.

"Oi! Bring that bird over here and let's get COOKING!" He exclaimed, teeming with excitement. "I'm gonna do something amazing with these birds. Just need some spices from grandpa!"

Samoset stamped around the upstairs portion of the house, his mind fixated on finding his grandfather. He wasn't in the kitchen, he wasn't in the storage room, nor was he in his bedroom! Where in the name of Aisha was he? The prentice shoved his hands into his pockets and let out a low, rumbling growl, just as the door to one of the other rooms opened.

"Grandpa! We're back!" He exclaimed, wrapping his arms around the elder man's shoulders.

Cusick let out a loud roll of laughter at the surprise hug and gave Samoset a quick nuzzle.

"OH, well, this is cause for celebration, isn't it?" He said, grinning from ear to ear. "Where's your bloody father? He's usually the one lumbering himself around these stairs. He at the market with your brother?"

"No!" Samoset squeaked, shaking his head. "He's out back with Kennet and Rilind! Kennet's using the fire pit for the birds that Rilind caught and..." He paused, pursing his lips. "...You know, I don't know what they're doing right now."

"Pffft, you're just like your father, aren't you?" Cusick laughed, ruffling Samoset's dreads. "Well, it's about time I met your father's lover, it's only been a few years! And he's a hunter, eh?" He moved towards the ladder. "Let's not keep them waiting, shall we?"

Rilind followed along after Yaholo, finding himself thinking on the bath that the other had mentioned. Did he really need a bath that was like what he was explaining? It seemed like quite the task just to get cleaned up... but at the same time the idea of a 'proper bath' did kind of sound nice. He couldn't recall the last time he'd had such a thing. It was mostly just rinsing off when he could find a proper water source but what Yaholo was describing, it sounded rather nice. He was obviously torn, arms crossed over his chest, seeming to be debating over it as he looked into the room that Yaholo was showing off to him.

"Hmm... I don't know... I want to get cleaned up but it seems like a lot of work." He mused, not to mention that there was the chance that someone might see him, as well as his many scars, which he kept covered up. The last thing he wanted was for someone, especially Yaholo, to see how beat up he really was under what he wore. The scar on his shoulder was especially ugly, something Yaholo had been sparred seeing since the last time he'd been around Rilind when he was completely covered with clothing he was swathed in bandages.

He gave a sighing sound, as though he were trying to figure out an answer... when he heard other approaching and the idea of a bath was completely forgotten for the time being. Turning to face those who were approaching, one of them new, he unconsciously took a step closer to Yaholo. He didn't like it, the fear he head in him, but he'd never been good with people, he'd never been trusting, but with good reason. It was Yaholo he cared about most, trusted most, and as such he ended up standing closer to him... just in case. Everything else was forgotten as Samoset approached them with the new man, who he could only assume was Yaholo's father given that they were at the man's house.

A lot of work? Yaholo blushed. He'd... Help with anything that Rilind might need. Fetching water, getting soap, clothes, towels... Even helping him undress. The Brute pursed his lips a little and leaned upwards to rub at his head and chuckle, when the sound of his father's voice bounced down from upstairs. He couldn't help but smile, he hadn't seen his father in a while after all, but as Rilind drew closer to his side his face relaxed. Right, this was all incredibly new to Rilind. He was meeting his father. He inched his hand towards Rilind's and gently grasped it.

"It's alright." He whispered, soothingly. "He's a wonderful person. He'll adore you."

It wasn't long until his father rounded the corner and appeared beside them, his eyes wide with joy.

"There's my boy!" Cusick exclaimed, squeezing Yaholo around his torso. "Did you gain another fifty tons of muscle? I swear, every time you come back, I seem to lose another inch of reach around your sides! What does your mother feed you?"

"Maybe, I have been training pretty hard, with the war and all." Yaholo laughed, shaking his head. It was always Yaholo who was growing and never Cusick shrinking, he supposed his father didn't want to admit he was aging, but did he have to make comments like this every time he visited? He let out a puff of air at the thought and gazed down to Rilind, his smile growing softer.

"Dad," He said, motioning to Rilind. "This is my Rilind. He's caught us some birds for dinner which Kennet would like to prepare. Is that alright with you?"

Cusick's attention seemed to snap down to Rilind like the aim of an arrow, but in more of the way of attentiveness than intrigue. He leaned his body to the side and smiled, before reaching out to take Rilind's hands.

"Welcome, Rilind, I'm Cusick!" He exclaimed, practically gleaming with excitement. "I'm so glad to finally meet you! Yaholo's only been taking about you for years. I mean, maybe not years, but long enough for me to wonder when he'd be bringing you around to meet me!" He nudged Yaholo's arm. "Little snot, you are, what took you so long?"

Yaholo rolled his eyes at the nudging and gave a shrug.
"Some people aren't always as eager as you are, dad." He sighed, giving Ril's hand a squeeze. "We wanted to take our time, that's what was best for us, right, Ril?"

Kennet watched the group from his position by the fire pit and rolled his eyes. Ugh, at this rate they'd never get dinner started! He stood, dusted off his legs, and moved towards them.

"As soon as you all stop snuggling and being mushy, can we get food started?" He sighed, leaning towards his grandfather. "Where are the spices? I need, like, all of them."

Samoset felt an odd sense of happiness wash over him as his grandfather embraced his father and greeted Rilind warmly. This was amazing, grandpa really seemed to like Rilind, which was good for his father! His dad needed his lover and having him be accepted by grandpa was a big plus.

However, this wash of happiness faded as Kennet came over and interrupted the conversation. He made a sour face towards Kennet.

"Your stupid spices can wait." He stated, turning his nose in the air. "This is far more important, not that you would understand that."

Yaholo's father he thought to himself, his whole being going for a moment tense... but it didn't take long for him to realize that the man was a bit like Yaholo was, that being kind. It really was surreal for him, but he was starting to realize that maybe this was the norm? Father's being more like this man and Yaholo himself, good people, kind people, that took care of their kids? His hand lifted unconsciously to scratch at some of his older scars before the man was suddenly approaching him to catch hold of his hands. It was a startling action, something that had his entire being screaming out at him to jerk his hands away, maybe take a swing... but it was a thought he forced down. The last thing he wanted was to embarrass himself or Yaholo in such a manner after all.

Drawing in a deep breath he held it for a moment, then let it out slowly, he could do this. He just had to keep himself in check, ignore the fight or flight instincts that were always running on high. It was safe here, these were good people, so he should sabotage himself or the situation that he found himself in as he'd done many times in the past.

Glancing between Yaholo and the man who called himself Cusick he said, "It isn't exactly Yaholo's fault, I am not that good with people." Best to defend Yaholo in this situation, especially since he had a feeling that if it were up to him Yaholo probably would have brought Rilind back to meet this man once upon a time ago when they first met. Were it not for the fact that Rilind had run away that was. Running seemed to be all he was good at when he was younger he thought to himself.

His attention was dragged away from Yaholo and Cusick, over to the twins as they seemed to be building up for another round. They really were loud, weren't they? It made him half wonder if the two even liked each other... but maybe it was sibling thing? Or a twin thing? Rilind was an only child, likely a good thing, and along with his upbringing he knew there was a lot that he was missing. No matter, it seemed that the easiest way to break things up was to let Kennet cook, right?

As such he said, "I should probably get cleaned up now. Yaholo, can you show me where the water is located? Ahhh... if it's not a bother that is." He didn't need a fancy bath, not at the moment, he just needed to rinse off... and needed a moment alone, or with just Yaholo, so he could breath. He could only hope in borrowing him that he didn't give the twins a chance to start another battle between themselves. He didn't want to be the cause of any fighting between the pair after all. Deep down, though he didn't want to admit it, he wanted Yaholo's family to like him, maybe because his own didn't much care for him, but he refused to say such a thing out loud.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 13, 2015 6:11 pm

Yaholo's attention seemed split between Rilind, his father, and glaring at the boys as they stared at each other. He hoped that when he was old and gray like his father his boy would be respectable and calm, it really was embarrassing. He sighed and motioned to his father and the boys.

"Why don't you guys go get dinner started while I show Ril where the water is?" He said, waving the trio off to the fire pit again. "We'll be back soon."

"Alright, Yaholo." Cusick replied, giving his son a pat on the arm. "I can handle these two for now, you boys get settled!"

Yaholo paid his father a nod in response and gently nudged Rilind towards the house again. He knew it must be daunting for Rilind, meeting his father like this, and he honestly wished it could've been a little more private of an affair. You know, sitting in the house, cleaned up, maybe with a cup of tea? It would've been a lot less awkward for the both of them. But, there was nothing he could do for now.

"So, the water's over here, we just need some buckets to carry it." He said, leading Rilind towards the ladder to the house. "I think there are some in the kitchen, but my dad likes to move things around. I'm never sure where anything is with him, really."

Kennet smiled as his father left the area and clung to his grandfather's arm.

"Come on, let's get these birds all fixed up before they come back!" He exclaimed, tugging Cusick's arm. "What spices should I use? Ginger and garlic? Paprika and pepper?"

"Whoa, whoa!" Cusick laughed. "Don't get carried away here! We should make something that everyone likes, how about that? Nothing too fancy!"

"Something everyone likes?" Kennet groaned, gazing to Samoset. "Then we're going to be here all night! Samoset's the most picky thing I've ever had to deal with!"
