"I don't remember my mother very well," said Hasanna. "She was beautiful, though. Your mother must have been very beautiful. She couldn't have been ugly, because you are so beautiful." She said it with complete honesty and without the trace of a lie or flattery on her face. In her family to tell someone they were beautiful, or talented, or interesting. It was when they didn't say a thing about you that was the worst.

Hasanna leapt back and squealed in terror as the blast connected with and ate through the tree. She put her hooves to her chest and tried to make her face less drawn in terror and her eyes less popped out. She wheezed and squeaked as she breathed.

"Ah, show... show you?" she stammered. "In- in a bit... I need... I don't have any feathers here..." Concentrating on the necessary elements for her talent allowed her to get herself in control. "I would need feathers... Where could I..." she mused. Oh, she knew where to find strands from a unicorn horn and ice that never faded, but feathers? Where on such short notice... "Ah! Magina has such lovely feathers, I could ask her for some! Would you mind coming with me so I can show you?" she asked, in a voice only marginally weaker than her usual tones.

((So... he just scared the absolute you know out of her. I mean imagine if you were having a conversation and someone said "hold up" and made something burn- that's awesome XDDD I hope he takes it well XDD))

Syndicate lightly smiled as he thought of his mother. "I think she was. I can remember her silver shining hair the most though, as awkward as that sounds." He listened to the last part which actually made him blush a bit. "Um...well thanks. Your mother must of been beautiful too." He noticed a bit as she was terrorized by his sudden attack on the tree.

He rubbed his head a bit with his claws. "Um...yeah...sorry if I scared you. I just wanted to show you what I meant and sometimes proving it is the best." He stopped himself right there. "I mean you don't have to prove anything to me if you don't want to it's just..." He stopped himself yet again. "I'm sorry if I scared you. If it makes you feel better I can't burn things like a normal dragon can do."

Syndicate nodded his head at Hasanna's request. "Sure. I could use some good company. I promise I won't make anything else rot...unless we're being attacked by some random pony." He shook his head. "Nevermind, you'll have to forgive how awkward I am. Living as a loner has kind of made me a bit awkward when it comes to socializing."

((Oh it's ok. He's fairly mellow now ever since he's grown up.))

Hasanna nodded along to what he said, her nerves still jangling. "It's just up that mountain," she said. As she walked she regained herself and began to smile again. "Silver hair, that must be where you get your silver from," she said, with a long gap between him mentioning it and her replying. "All I really remember about my mother is the colour of her skin." She touched her brown cheek ruefully.

Syndicate looked up the mountain. "I see. So who all lives up there?" He could tell she was nervous still a bit and wanted to get off the subject of what he could do. He didn't want to scare her too much. Perhaps that one pony was right that he was weak in the sense that he normally wouldn't attack others unless provoked to the most extreme extent. "I think so, because my dad has black hair with a red body." He watched as she touched her skin. "I see, well she must of been beautiful for you to have such a nice color. I'm guessing you didn't see much of your mother either?"

"Oh, no, my mother is dead," she said vaguely. "Um up the mountain... many ponies, we're going to see Magina, she's a hippogryph. She lives in the middle of the mountain between the dragons and the ice palace."

She smiled at him, calm now. "Your father sounds handsome."

Syndicate hesitated for a bit before looking to the ground half ashamed he was making her feel so uncomfortable. "I'm sorry...I didn't mean to...I mean...I didn't know...Sorry." As she switched subjects he lightened up a bit. "Oh! I've never seen a hippogryph before actually so this should be interesting. Other ponies in my herd told me of one named Azalie, but I never got to see her." He cocked his head to the side. "Dragons and Ice Palace?"

"He is pretty good looking, although his skills lie in swordsmanship the most and crafting weapons sometimes." He shook his head. "I can't do it though."

"Yes," said Hasanna as they walked, trotting a little to keep up with Syndicate's longer strides, "dragons live in the peak, I think it's mostly hollow, and at the bottom of the mountain above the sea there is an ice palace. It was made by an ice kirin named Zared for his princess Eerinna, her being a descendant in the direct line from the Goblin King..." she trailed off as she caught her breath. "And Zared thought she deserved a palace. It's beautiful and it never melts- he finished building it five years ago."

"You can't make weapons?" Hasanna repeated. "Is that something you'd like to do? I know a-" she gasped and coughed, but they were making good time uphill, "a pony, named Raider... he's a Winter and his skills are great. He could teach you if you wanted. He owes me a favour." Many favours, truth to tell.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 19, 2015 8:58 am

Syndicate scrunched his face up thinking for a moment. "A kirin? I don't honestly think I've ever heard of them before to tell you the truth. Then again I don't think I've heard of much of anything other than earth ponies, dragons, and demons for that matter." He cocked his head to the side. "Goblin King? His children must be pretty powerful and gorgeous." There was so much for him to take in that it all seemed rather intriguing a bit. "Ice that never melts too? Hmm...must be pretty strong then."

When she mentioned about the weapons part he seemed fairly interested. "Nope, can't do it. Or at least I can't make them like the drow males did." He slightly smiled. "Really? I wouldn't mind learning some more types of crafting besides just flimsy daggers." He paused for a second. "I guess I can do that. Probably should of mentioned it, but I'm not a master crafter that can craft swords and heavy artillery."

Hasanna nodded. "The Goblin King has many children around. There aren't many kirins around here, Mirambeena, Zared, Mirambeena's son Tillian. They're as rare as you are."

"Well, if you want, I can talk to Raider about it, but he's in the other direction- shall we go and see him after we visit the hippogryphs?"

Syndicate chuckled a bit. "Kind of sounds like my grandfather, although I never got to meet him. They say he liked to sleep around with a lot of women. Probably just to make dragons a more common species I'm guessing." He shrugged. "Hmm...well it would be nice to meet a kirin or something a bit different one day." He looked at the mountains. "These mountains sure are pretty big that's for sure."

He paused for a moment. "If you want I could lend a helping hoof and let you ride on my back. I could get up to the top faster if you would like. Or if you would rather not that's fine too. I just thought I would make a suggestion."

He nodded his head. "That would be fine with me. I'm in no rush today considering everything is pretty mundane in my life."

Hasanna flustered. "I wouldn't even consider troubling you by riding on your- though I'm sure you could do it; you are very strong and broad-looking- that is to say, I am flattered by your offer but really, I couldn't inconvenience you to have to carry me," she finally blurted out, a pink tinge appearing on her woody coloured cheeks.

Taking a breath, she said, "I like mountains. I know that seems very obvious to say, but people often say they like living by the sea, or in the fields, or in valleys or cities. I like mountains. Maybe it's cleaner, here. a different kind of cold, harder cold, crisper cold than you would find in the city. Like the mountains are a filter for pollutants and the stone sucks your unhappiness into them and locks it away. I suspect that may be why some people like jewellery so much."

"You know, I have never met a seapony. I think it would be interesting to meet one. Or a legend! But I think I would faint at the sight of them, they do seem so majestic in the pictures I have seen..."

With a final effort of will, they ascended to the section of the mountain not far from the valley proper where the Hippogryphs lived. "Hello?" called Hasanna. "It's Hasanna, I hate to bother you. And also I have a companion."

A dim shape in the gloom moved and revealed itself to be Magina, a brightly plumed hippogryph. She did not appear to be sleepy, despite the fact that she had been laying down. It turned out that she had been preening and clipping out any damaged or imperfect feathers. "Hello Hasanna." She looked at Syndicate. "Hello Hasanna's companion."

"This is Syndicate," introduced Hasanna. "Syndicate, this is Magina. We were just up here to see if you could part with any lost feathers for me. Syndicate is very eager to see my talent."

"The arranging thing," said Magina in her slow, calm way. Magina, who could trap people in warped illusions, perhaps did not take well with ponies whose talents were so passive and sedate, but she saw no harm in giving up her lost feathers to someone who could enjoy them as something more than bed-fillers.

Syndicate shrugged. "Ok." He continued with her up the mountain till he got to the hippogryph. "A pleasure to meet you Magina." He then looked back at Hasanna. "I'd say I am rather curious since I do like to see what talents other ponies hold." He was hesitating on whether or not to speak his mind, but he decided not to simply not to frighten her. Her talent didn't seem so dangerous, but still it would be nice to see especially since he did want to make her feel comfortable and in good company. He looked at all the feathers. "Wow...I never knew hippogryphs went through so many feathers." He paused for a moment. "Wonder if that's the same way Azalie is."

Hasanna gathered an armful of feathers into a scarf she had handy, thanked Magina, who sniffed, and went back down the mountain with SYndicate. "Going downhill is much easier," she said cheerily.

"So we can find Raider in a cleared area surrounded by dead trees further up here into the hills," she described as she lead the way. "He practices his swordcraft there."

Syndicate followed after Hasanna. "I can agree on that." He continued to listen to her as she described where Raider was. "Is that where he lives or is it just a favorite place for him?"

"I think it's just his favourite place," said Hasanna. "But he's a little nomadic in his tastes. He doesn't have a house so much as a tent he takes around with him. He never settles in the same place for too long." Hasanna decided that, so Syndicate didn't get the wrong idea, she'd just tell him how she knew Raider.

"You see, it turns out that Raider likes bright things, even though he's not a bright pony, he's a very brown colour, not gleaming like you are," she said. "He particularly likes feathers and since he has no feathers of his own, he asked me to help him decorate his home with as many colourful feathers as I could find."
