Merlinite knew that it would take a few tries before she could get a smooth attack pattern down, but making the effort to learn was important. He was not sure his lessons were right, exactly, but they certainly worked for him so far. Well... kind of.
He probably would not tell her that he did not win a lot of his fights. That was usually because of something dumb happening of the fight getting broken up, and not because he was a bad brawler!
Except once or twice.
As she took her swings he nodded his head, noting which would have probably landed if they were moving faster, and which were a little less effective. He gave her notes as they went, and felt like she had a lot of good natural instincts that just needed a bit more cultivating. Everyone had an impulse for fighting, he felt, it was just bringing it out.
"You're doing good," he said, once he decided they'd had enough, taking a step back and grinning at her. "Surprisingly enough. But I think with a few more practice sessions and some real fights, with some back up watching out for you, you'll be up to speed in no time."

Once Merlinite told her they were done she dropped her hands and then settled herself on the ground for a breather. “This definitely beats video games.” She hadn’t really played that many fighters much less attended any tournaments for them but she was sure this beat that by a long shot. Once her breath had settled down again she got up and rubbed a few sore spots. She’d probably have a few bruises but nothing that she couldn’t cover up easily. “Hope I didn’t bruise you too hard.” She chuckled. She kind of missed this kind of comradery made Ubasti wonder where the other dark mirrors were.
If Merlniite had been… Well if he wasn’t Merlinite than she’d probably asked him if he wanted to get something to eat and maybe have a go at the arcades. But he wasn’t and under no circumstances could she hang out with him, she didn’t even know if these little sparring matches was breaching some protocols. That kind of sucked. Ubasti made a face and rubbed the back of her head. “You’re a good teacher, thanks for the lessons. We’re going to have to do this again when I’m stronger.” She was going to make sure she’d learned a few moves as well.

"Well, video games are great for other things, but probably not learning actual skills," Merlinite said, with a grin. he was feeling better, and he was glad for the fact that they had run into each other, and this whole arrangement popped up because of it. He was not good at making friends, after all, but somehow he had managed without even trying.
Or at least he thought he did.
Close enough.
"I look forward to that, then. And maybe I'll be stronger by then, too, and have something even more impressive to show you, eh? I'll learn more, after all, and then, I guess, so will you."
He liked helping out, but he was not sure if it was really okay for the two factions. It was not a set of rules he was really aware of, as he had never really thought he would be hanging out with a Dark Mirror, let alone offering help and training.
"We should probably head out, though. I'm sure we'll run into each other again. We're pretty good at it so far."
