It was a good thing Alistaire wasn't looking at Molly, because the look on Molly's face wouldn't instill in confidence in her ability to help.

"Oh."

She was staring at him, wide eyed, lost, confused, maybe even a bit scared, and she was seeing him, but she wasn't seeing him. For a moment, she didn't even look like she was home upstairs. What kind of advice should she give him?

Molly didn't know the first thing about being romantic!

So she thought.

Stuff with Jeremy wasn't...er...normal...and the thought that she just implied that there was romance to their relationship suddenly had her face turning red. Molly snapped her gaze away from Alistaire and a freckled hand reached up to cover her face. Oh gosh. She took a deep breath. Okay. Okay. Wait...

Life time movies.

Yes.

Molly cleared her throat, and lowered her hand. "O-oh!" She stared at Alistaire once more, her cheeks red. "I...I think I...can help!" She replied. "W-well...one way to start is to...hold that person's hand! Um...like...when you're together...and you're walking somewhere or...standing next to each other, you just reach out and hold onto their hand." A pause, as she waited to see how he'd respond to this...and she hoped it was the start of good advice.

Thankfully, Alistaire was indeed still not looking at Molly, which meant he missed the myriad of conflicted and panicked emotions that flitted across her face, too focused on his own inabilities and the fact that he'd had to sink this low to get what he wanted. But he was woefully, terribly inexperienced when it came to anything even remotely connected to romance, as demonstrated by his continued awkwardness with Harland, and Alistaire was beginning to think that if he did not improve, then Harland would get bored.

(He sincerely hoped that wouldn't happen, but he sometimes still had trouble understanding why Harland still chose to be with him after all this time.)

Alistaire listened carefully to the somewhat flustered sounding advice and carefully filed it away. It was a simple thing, holding hands; and he recalled Harland having asked about it before, or rather, say something about how he wished he could just hold his hand like normal. It was a quiet request, but one that Alistaire hadn't been able to fulfill at the time.

Maybe now he could. Or at least, he could attempt to.

"Okay," said Alistaire slowly, idly tugging at one of his gloves. Some of the stiffness in his shoulders eased the slightest amount. "What other things are there to keep in mind?"

Was...was she actually...giving...legit advice?

For some reason, Molly, briefly, felt proud of herself. She told someone they should hold hands with their loved one. So proud. At his question, Molly started a bit, and was then quick to search her memories for more chick flicks she had seen on Life Time.

"W-well...another thing to do is...um...give pecks on the cheek...! Um...you know...with your lips! Cheek kisses! They can be quick! Um...apparently it's really romantic when it's a surprise...?" She sounded unsure as she stated that, and was then mulling over some other stuff. "Oh, hugs! Hugs, definitely, I think! Uh..." She stared off to the other side of the room, and then gasped. "Doing nice things for that person that are out of the ordinary of your usual routine!" Molly then hummed thoughtfully.

"Ah, like! Jeremy, one day he went to the beach and collected sea shells, and he made me a necklace out of them! That was really nice--But leaving notes around places for your special someone, I've seen that too!" Now Molly was on a roll as she could recall a whole bunch of things.

Pecks on the cheek. Well, he did like kissing, and Harland seemed to as well, which meant that that wasn't too much to ask. Hugging was a little bit more complicated, for a variety of reasons, but maybe if he tried a little harder, he would be able to get more comfortable with them. Surprise kisses...well, that was mostly doable, since almost any kiss Alistaire initiated himself tended to be a surprise in and of itself.

He frowned a little. "Making things is not my forte," Alistaire said, finally turning to look at Molly, though his face was still rather red. "And I've never really been a note writer. It seems..." He wrinkled his nose a little, looking mildly disgusted. "Very unlike me."

Molly started a bit when Alistaire finally turned back to her, and smiled at him sheepishly. It was also a surprise seeing his face! She hadn't seen much of it since he knocked on her door. "Oh, okay! Yes! Don't do things that aren't you." She giggled a bit nervously, her thumbs running along the rim of her mug, racking her brain for more suggestions.

"Ah...oh! Compliments! Really nice compliments here and there are nice?" Surely Alistaire could do compliments, and coming from someone like him, they'd be really nice. A pause as Molly stared at his face.

"Oh my goodness! You're wearing glasses!" She exclaimed. "They look really nice on you!"

Like that, but minus the romance part.

Compliments. He could do compliments. Maybe. It was hard, but there were a great many things that Alistaire found pleasing about Harland, and therefore this should make it easier to compliment him. Maybe if he could just manage to get the words out, he'd be able to feel better.

Alistaire slid a glance in Molly's direction, lips half quirking upwards in a slight smile.

"Thank you," he said. "I am more accustomed to contacts, but there aren't any I can wear on the island, and therefore I find it has been easier to simply wear glasses now."

There was a long pause. Alistaire waffled.

"I am..." A pause. He struggled, his face reddening again. "This is the first time I have ever...felt this sort of...desire to be closer to someone. It is...strangely unsettling."

"You're welcome!" She replied, giving him another fox eyed smile, more at ease now that it seemed she was giving him good and actually helpful advice. "I like them a lot." Molly reaffirmed. "They look stellar on you!"

The hunter blinked and stopped as Alistaire spoke up again, and at his words, she gave him an encouraging smile and a vigorous nod of her head. "That's wonderful! I'm so happy for you!" Her head tilted as she then scratched at a freckled cheek. "It is unsettling...huh? It will be okay though!"

Her constant positivity was simultaneously irritating and confusing; but he also had to admit that it was a little admirable that she could still maintain that sense of surety when it came to things. Alistaire reached for his tea again, bringing the mug to his lips and taking a swallow.

"There is, really, no way of knowing that for sure," he said, but it was said with more exasperation than annoyance. "But I appreciate your confidence nonetheless."

"No...there isn't." Molly agreed her smile dimming. "But...there's no way of knowing for sure that it's going to be bad either...right?" So she'd rather just be optimistic and hope for the best. If she believed it hard enough, it'd be true, right?

She hoped so.

"I have the utmost faith in you!"

After saying that, there was a pause, and she tilted her head. "Um...was there anything else you wanted to ask...erm...did I answer your question completely...?"

Alistaire made a noncommittal noise. "I suppose that's true," he said, because she had a point. He fiddled with his glass and ran a gloved finger against the side of it, debating internally whether he should go into further detail.

"Yes," he said, after a moment. "Have you ever...conducted a relationship..."

There was a long pause.

"With someone...who..."

Another pause. Alistaire was determined not to flush, but was failing miserably.

"Have you ever had a relationship with someone of the same gender?" he finally said, in a rush of words, muttered so quietly that it was hard to even hear him. He had tried to sound professional about the whole matter, but that obviously had not worked.

Molly was, as always, attentive as Alistaire revved up with another question, and when he finally got around to asking, Molly stared at him, a bit frozen for a moment. She was trying to process his question, and while doing so, her brows knitted.

"Oh...um...like...you mean a friendship or...the romantic relationship?" She just wanted to be clear before she jumped to conclusions, that'd be bad!

There was a short pause.

"Romantically."

"Oh, right!" Molly squeaked embarrassed, and her cheeks turned a bit red. She ducked her head. "I haven't...I'm sorry!" She apologized, reaching up with one hand to rub the back of her neck. She seemed ashamed she didn't have the 'experience' to help him out.

There was a long moment of silence though before Molly, quietly, asked:

"Does it matter though...?" To her, it really didn't.

"Yes," said Alistaire, because it did, to him, even if not for the same reasons. "I am not ashamed of...of my partner." For lack of a better word. He still wasn't sure what to even call Harland because boyfriend sounded so juvenile. "But it...makes it difficult to explain to other people, I suppose."

Alistaire took a sip of his tea, looking distressed.

Molly's face, slowly, then pinched into the utmost look of concentration, one rarely seen on the woman's face. Like she was thinking incredibly hard, and was on the verge of breaking through the mental hurdle, but was just a few inches short of clearing it. She was so close to grasping what she wanted to try and say, but it also, to a degree, went against her good nature. That's why it was hard to grasp, but she tried, because she believed it deep down in her heart, even if she couldn't apply it to herself.

The hunter put her cup on the table, and then scooted closer to Alistaire. Not so close as to make it incredibly awkward, but close enough that her knees lightly brushed the side of one of his. That look of the utmost concentration was now turned on him.

"But..." She started, and her lips twisted. "But..." She looked incredibly dismayed, like it took so much physical effort to utter these words. "But what...other people think about your relationship..." She trailed off for a moment. "...Doesn't...matter." A hand came up to her chest, as if saying that greatly pained her. "It...doesn't...as long as you're happy."
